Posted May 2, 20241 yr It's back! The first Grand Tour is just around the corner so time to get a thread going to discuss it! Highlights are on DMAX in the UK (channel 39 for Freeview-ers)
May 2, 20241 yr Author Tadej Pogacar is riding the Giro this year (sounds like he's planning to contest the Giro and Tour in one season!) so he's odds-on favourite to win - his main contender will be Geraint Thomas who just missed out on winning last year, and then it'll be a complete free-for-all for any remaining podium spots!
May 3, 20241 yr Author We kick off tomorrow - quite a hilly day so expecting some action from the get go!
May 3, 20241 yr I might watch this, the scenery will be good and I really want to go the Dolomites/Alps one day anyway! Edited May 3, 20241 yr by TheSnake
May 6, 20241 yr Author Two days in and Pogacar already has a sizeable lead! If he stays upright you do wonder if there's anyone who'll be able to even come close.
May 7, 20241 yr Author Two pretty interesting sprint days the last few days, both with people attacking in the last few kilometres! A shame to see Girmay crash out though, was hoping he might be able to win a few stages :( Pogacar still in pink.
May 8, 20241 yr Author And a sprint day spoiled by the breakaway today! Nice to see Benjamin Thomas get the win there, the first for Cofidis this year.
May 9, 20241 yr Author A second breakaway win in a row! Well done to Sanchez for the biggest win of his career so far. And a stable Top 10 on a day where there really could've been gaps (those off-road sections are crazy), the time trial tommorrow will definitely shake things up though!
May 13, 20241 yr Author Pogacar takes the Pink Jersey into the first rest day very comfortably after taking two minutes out of everyone in the Time Trial and then winning the next dat as well! Kooij got his first win in the sprint yesterday.
May 17, 20241 yr Author Julian Alaphilippe winning yesterday was great to see, especially after all the scrutiny he's been under recently. GC remains as it was.
May 20, 20241 yr Author Pogacar took 3 minutes out of everyone yesterday - completely dominating the race.
May 24, 20241 yr Author Pogacar continues to steadily increase his lead with only a couple of days to go! Some great breakaway wins as well – Georg Steinhauser definitely one of the breakout stars of the race. A close call with the crash for Geraint Thomas today as well – thankfully the rest of the riders waited for him.
May 25, 20241 yr Author And another show of force from Pogacer in the final stage - almost 10 minutes ahead of his nearest rival in GC! He's completely and utterly dominated this race, certainly good preparation for the Tour de France.
May 28, 20241 yr it's been crazy and with Vingaard's accident, I see Pogacar is gonna walk it in the Tour de France not even sure if Vingaard is gonna take part?
