'Firestarter' is an electrifying chart topper and the visuals are one of the first to come to mind when I think of iconic 90s music videos

the Dubstar track 'Stars' on tonight's TOTP was a great discovery for me lower down ^_^

You may have noticed an edit just before Dubstar sang Stars on Top of the Pops tonight - The bit that was edited out was Mark Goodier saying that Sarah Blackwood once wrote to Jim'll Fix It asking to met the Beatles !

My "current" # 1 is Cliff Richard and Helen Hobson - The Wedding (I Do Not Love You Isabella)

“Firestarter” is the worst UK # 1 from 90s.

The chasm between our personal taste in music is truly immeasurable.

I disagree it’s probably one of my favourites, punk songs like that have everything against them!

Love ‘Walkaway’ kind of sounds like Starsailor or a band like that. Is Mark Morrison the last sales and position riser in the chart ?

Pretty much my least favourite Kylie single  Aside from maybe 'Celebration' and the dreadful Gloria Gaynor one.

Pretty much my least favourite Kylie single

My favourite Kylie single and SOTY for 1990.

I remember that you disliked it, when posted my top in Kylie forum.

A Little Time was a lovely #1, that’s a nice choice

Interesting to have two instrumentals in the top three simultaneously. I really don’t rate X Files as a full single, it worked well as a theme tune but next to Children it sounded a lot more amateur a dance production to me. I wonder if it’s ever been on any compilation album? If so i’ve never seen it.

Firestarter was such a fresh sounding No.1, really woke the chart up after that Take That cover.

I like the Pulp and Cast songs a lot, and it’s nice to see the slow growth for Return of the Mack.

My favourite, and favourite song of the year, was Gina G. What an intro that song has <3 she brought the fun back into pop, feels like it had been a little while that a new female popstar launched with such a big pop/dance hit? I know everyone rightfully credits Spice Girls for the return of pure pop stars but Gina deserves some credit too. Although bless her, the live vocal in the first performance (and, sadly, at Eurovision) was not that great. But what a forward thinking entry for the time! Considering the ballads and Celtic overload that lasted until televoting was introduced. It was brave to present a song like that to only juries.

Firestarter is among the best 5 number 1s of the 90s. Liam Howlet is a genius.

Firestarter is a masterpiece

Gezza you write their last 2 singles missed the top 10 but those were post-album singles so totally expected

I also love the Pulp one, Something changed, one of the many highlights from Different class

The X-Files song is good as a 30-sec tv theme but as a single, not so much... I never understood why it never charted originally in 93 when the series started but guess it was those dance covers that incidentally made it chart

Oh I really do rate A Little TIme, that's a lovely little track.

One band I really liked at the time that everybody kinda hated for some reason was Ocean Colour Scene, their best is yet to come single-wise but their Moseley Shoals album was incredible so happy to see You've got it bad into the top 10. Their first top 20 The Riverboat Song was great too.

Not sure why they were kinda hated back in the day and considered as a second class-Oasis :/

I think Ocean Colour Scene were reasonably acclaimed at the time as well as having commercial success, it was more in a year or so after Britpop's peak that they were held up as a bit too retro.

'Firestarter' is undoubtedly one of the definitive #1s of the 90s, what a blast it still is. 'Children' was nowhere near in sales then, but almost got a 4th week at #2. 'Walkaway' is quite lovely, easily Cast's best song.

oh now that I recall NME used to call them Ocean Duller Scene :/
The criticisms definitely came later on, in 1996 they were popular and up there as one of the biggest bands

"A Little Time" reached # 3 in my chart.
