I love her and think she is such a talent... but this not doing it for me.

She can be a great songwriter when she wants to be but this is appealing all her worst songwriting habits. Everything is way way too 'on the nose' for me? And the shouting out the 'farmers' 'cleaners' 'chefs' etc. is a cute idea but it could have been a politically charged tweet? It just lacks any form of creative subtlety.

Still I am routing for her, but this is a skip.

Off to a rather slow start digitally based on iTunes and Apple Music data so far. Spotify may prove a better result for her as its #1 on New Music Friday UK.
So I finally got around to hearing it. I love Raye, I still play her Rudimental song "Regardless" in addition to several others. But I'm sorry, this is is just narcissistic self indulgent mess. It would work well as a live medley but in today's "swipe culture" everything quick and fast generation, I don't see them investing in a song that changes sounds so suddenly.
Not for me. I get what she’s doing and she’s clearly very talented. But generally I’m never a fan of politically motivated songs!

I do really like the song and appreciate most of it but I agree about shouting out the cleaners and the NHS at the end part, I find it quite clunky and heavy-footed.

I enjoy the song overall though, I can’t see it being a hit but I don’t think its meant to be. I do like that she has done this and stayed true to what she wanted to do, and I do think and hope she will have an absolutely massive era.

Genesis debuts at 68 on uk Spotify with 134,300 streams. Not sure of a combined total with the other versions though, I reckon pt 2 is pulling some decent streams
Really hope it’s enough for top 40 in the end, hopefully she’s sold a decent amount of vinyls cos they’re not too pricey to give her a boost
Pt 2 is repeatable (and hopefully people realise this exists), but the full thing is a lot.
Globally the ep opens with 1.158m streams on Spotify, the full song got 567k and pt 2 got 352k. Pt 1 had just over 100k and pt 3 87k globally!
Pt II gives me M.I.A. mixed with Nelly Furtado (the "eh eh" bits) but it's all about Pt III for me.

As things stand I don’t like Genesis, unfortunately. I’m open to it growing/clicking so I’ll give it more time.

My early impressions though is that it comes across as sounding pretty forced. I appreciate the ambition, but with this execution I feel that she’s missed the landing? It’s full of word salad. It just doesn’t feel like a song that was effortless or naturally occurring, which are qualities I feel a grandiose song really needs to have, otherwise it just seems all too much / self-indulgent. I don’t think her instincts were quite on point here.

I can see it from the point of view of it being something she perhaps needed to get out of her system. From here on out I hope she settles into herself. She is a brilliant talent, but I don’t think she’s showcasing that too well on this song.

That’s just me though, I’m happy that others are feeling it. It seems the song is closing out the My 21st Century Blues era and isn’t necessarily indicative of where she might go with her next album.

Perhaps pt. III is Raye entering her Big Band/1930s era in which case I'm sold. :P

#12 in first look. Looks like vinyls have been accounted for then. Hopefully it’s enough to stay top 40 in the end!

Hottest Record on Radio 1 tonight, she'll be on to talk with Jack Saunders about it. Usually plays around 6:30
Down to 18 today, really hope it doesn’t tumble too much and starts to pick up some momentum, if they push part 2 I think it could do well
