I loved the way Linkin Park blended rap and rock elements and Chester’s voice had so much emotional power and sensitivity. Favourite songs are probably “Crawling”, “Somewhere I Belong”, both versions of “Numb” and the one coming up in my thread later!

Great choices! I think those songs make me so emotional. I think Crawling was the song that got me into them yet it was so different to all the other music I listened to at the time.

Erm I didn't give Linkin Park 30 points...

Sorry- altered- that's what I get for doing the posts so late last night! :D

Generally like a fair bit of both Linkin Park and Green Day and Pussycat Dolls have a few great tracks too.
Great to see Green Day and Linkin Park with big climbs from outside the top 40! I charted two of the newly released songs from each of them last year. Green Day were my 24 pointer last time so have an upgrade - my faves of theirs are 'Jesus Of Suburbia', 'Basket Case' and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'. My favourites from Linkin Park have already been mentioned except I think 'Numb / Encore' turns a great song into an even better one, with 'Crawling' and 'In The End' my other top picks.

Linkin Park were one of my childhood favourites, they really mastered the Nu Metal sound and made some really timeless tracks out of a pretty distinctly 2000s style, Chester Bennington's death was a real gut punch.

I could've thrown Green Day a few points, American Idiot is absolutely fantastic through and through although the rest of their material is quite hit and miss.

Even though I didn’t vote for some of those it’s great to see them climb. Some absolute classic songs from them both.

I have a soft spot for the Nana's even though SAW ruined them and they went a bit naff thereafter. The first album is a great collection of quirky pop songs and De Niro is a gloriously dark piece of subversive Pop.

Depeche Mode started fairly lightweight but once Vince left they got more interesting and much better, certainly up to the point where Dave Gahan died. After that they've not quite matched up to previous. Violator is a proper classic though.

Erasure showed exactly why Vince was wrong for la Mode and Andy Bell complimented him so well. Like the Pet Shop Boys, they're bit too Pop for my own taste but I think both are very excellent, if a bit overrated in general.

I think Dave Gahan is still alive! :D

I still need to discover more of Depeche Mode really. I love that old school synth pop style of Erasure - favourites are “Always”, “Blue Savannah” and “Sometimes”.
A very MEH section for me there, all of them have ok songs but none that I’d regularly listen to 😭

Yes but he died of an overdose in 1996 and was resuscitated. A technicality maybe but not untrue

Recap tomorrow along with updated voters chart as we reach the top 20. Who will fall at the final hurdle? Well certainly more than one 30 pointer won't make it.....

Depeche Mode had my 17 points last time, but quite a few more this time thanks to last year's stunning comeback with 'Ghosts Again'. My favourites from them are 'Just Can't Get Enough' (I know it's from their plinky plonk era and had a Saturdays cover and worst of all is ~overplayed~ itself, but it's still a tune), 'Enjoy The Silence' and 'Everything Counts'.

Four groups remain for me - one is already on a big climb and is surely coming soon, hopefully before a certain other group I much prefer but couldn't didn't vote for this time. The other three all have a shot at the top 10, but could also see them all missing out.

Depeche Mode and Erasure  How very appropriate that they should end up next to each other, if only Yazoo was also there!

DM are wonderful, their best songs are among my favourites by any act. Namely Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus, Never Let Me Down Again, Stripped, Shake the Disease, Useless, Walking in My Shoes and Barrel of a Gun. So very much a fan of their 90s work primarily, closely followed by their stuff in the second half of the 80s.

Erasure are underrated imo - maybe not on this countdown but definitely in the general public's eyes. They had quite a few good albums (Chorus, Erasure and I Say I Say I Say in particular) and their run of singles through to Rock Me Gently was pretty much impeccable. Favourite singles were A Little Respect (obviously), Chorus, Blue Savannah, You Surround Me, Drama!, Fingers & Thumbs, Always, Lay All Your Love On Me (which I genuinely prefer to the original ooops), Am I Right?, Love to Hate You and Ship of Fools... I was a huge fan of them as a child and they will therefore always hold a special place in my heart with their material up until 1998 or so. 24th is much better than I was expecting for them though so great taste Buzzjackers

Erasure and Depeche Mode each have a couple of songs I love but I don't know enough of their overall catalogue to consider giving them votes. Good to see the 80s well represented in this section!
