"Let's ruin the year" idea won in a previous poll. I will "ruin" five years from five decades (from 1970s to 2010s).

2010s is not very retro thing at all, so I prefer to start with any other decade.

Let's ruin the year

It's the same idea with "Julian rates", but his project is really epic. I wish to start with some selected years from 1970-2012 period, also will not do it in a chronological order. For

sample after 1975 year we can have 2010 rate e.t.c. I gave the title "Let's ruin" because the most songs will have average 3 or 4 out of 10 and my music taste is an opposite to the

majority of forum members.

Which years I will not to do from the selected periods ?

I will skip all years, which already were used for "Gražios Dainos" charts.

From 1990s - 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999

Selected years : 2005, 1980

Which year have a good chances to be ruined ?

From 1970s - 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979

From 1990s - 1990, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998

(In future) From 2010s - 2010, 2012

Some years choices are safe, some are very against the taste of a majority on Buzzjack.

Why 2005 became the first selected year ?

For 2000s decade I had two main options, but 2005 is more personal for me than 2006 year. Some years ago I had a dillema between many possible options, when selected the first

years for 80s and 90s retrospective charts ("Gražios Dainos") . As true stan I selected the years when my music goddesses were born. Kristina was born in 1987 year and Ivana was born in 1992 year.

2005 is the most important year in music for me, because my all-time # 1 act Lithuanian girl group YVA started the glorious page in a history of pop music.

P.S : Also I already named two my least favourite songs from 2006 year one month ago.

I don't try to hide my preferences. Everybody knows about the things, which like, dislike or just don't care. Even if sometimes it's like a walking on thin ice.

My rate system:

10 - Almost as good as "Beautiful Song" from Anmary

9 - Iconic

8 - Wonderful

7 - Very good

6 - Good

5 - Average

4 - Forgettable

3 - Weak

2 - Bad

1 - Very bad

0 - Awful

It works well, but please don't compare my middle rate (6-7) for songs with male and female vocals. Yes, I rarely listen male singers and groups (mostly for rates and music competitions), but on the other side my rates for female singers are stricter.

I'm very "greedy" person, when it comes to songs rate. There were the years (even in retro period), when my SOTY was 8/10. Josefin Nilsson - Heaven And Hell from 1993 year is a good sample. The most songs will have average 3 or 4 out of 10.

Is it possible to get 10 ?

Yes, but there are only 20 (21) songs in all history of pop music, which got a perfect 10 from me. Only 11 (12) were represented in UK singles chart.

What about 8-9 ?

It's much more easy to get it, but still hard.

I try to rate the most UK top 40 songs from the selected years, but...

Rules :

- I will skip all instrumental tracks, if the score is the important thing for you that count it as my 0/10.

- I will not rate any EP, because it's not fair to compare them with singles.

- I will rate only the most popular song from double / triple singles.

- I will skip the re-issues of old singles, which already were top 40 hits in the past years.

- I will skip the remixes.

In the end I will compile two short yearly charts with the best and the worst hit singles.

Maybe the place of poll in 2000s forum had a strong influence on the result, but what's done is done.

2000s decade won. I will ruin the songs from 2005 UK charts.

After the finish of 2005 year I will ruin 1980 (in 20th century forum), it was very predictable choice. There are two strong musical connection between my music taste and this year.

Average rate :

3.5 / 10

4.1 / 10

2.8 / 10

3.2 / 10

4.0 / 10

3.9 / 10

3.4 / 10

3.8 / 10

I worried about 90s win, because in that decade my music taste is mostly opposite to Buzzjack and UK chart in a summary. You can watch my 1991-1993 charts with a domination of non-English language songs and successful singles from the middle and bottom of UK chart. I didn't check a peak positions, but possibly there is not any my # 1, which was a hit in UK.

The rules are the same for all years. I will rate five years from five different decades (from 1970s to 2010s).

I prefer to say "Not Rated", because don't have any interest in listening and the ranking of instrumental tracks.

Ruin and Scissor Sisters should not feature in the same thread :P I love FG!!

Possibly 2005 year is not so SAFE choice, as I thought.

Winner : Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds

Three songs got the same score, but only because I use 0.5 step only for higher marks. "Against All Odds" is more like virtual 5.5 / 10, so Steve Brookstein was declared as the first (predictable) winner here. His version of "Against All Odds" is my third favourite X-Factor winner's single (behind "Cannonball" and "The Climb"). I don't remember the original (heard it only once), so mostly familiar with Mariah and Westlife cover (7/10). Almost everybody on Buzzjack hate Westlife, but not me.

Football songs are easy target for hate, but I don't have anything against them. Some from the them became big hits in my chart. Related to FC Celtic "The Bhoys Are Back In Town" (UK # 44 in 2003) from Dance To Tipperary was peaked at # 2 and had strong chartrun (2-2-5-6-7-9-11-14-17-18-20).

Dana Rayne's single have some good parts and cute cartoon video, but in summary is too dance for me.

In a bottom there are first two songs for my yearly "Worst list". I strongly dislike a vocals of male member in Scissor Sisters, so it was predictable place in the end. Scissor Sisters had one hit in my chart (Kiss You Off), but it's mostly like Ana's solo song.

It was normal start, but how soon will we see the first positive score (6 or more) ?

The Dana Rayne song is so cheesy :cheeseblock:

I didn't know there was a Tom Hark ska revival football song in 2005. We saw the previous Tom Hark (by The Piranhas) in the other 1980 thread.

Just watched Wikipedia, it's from 1980, which is the next year in my cycle.

I'm glad 'Breathe' wasn't done too dirty at least!

I'm a big fan of Bjorn Again (ABBA tribute band) version of Erasure hit "A Little Respect"

Speaking about the scores, with 4 weeks on the top of my chart, it's 8.5 / 10. For Erasure original - 7 / 10.

In the second selection we have three songs with good rates.

The most successful Client single "Pornography" (# 22 in UK chart) easily won on this week. It's a serious contender for top 3 in "Gražios Dainos", when I will reach 2005 year in retrospective charts.

British group Pop! released three singles in 2004-2005 years. On my music scale they are near Scooch level. Worse than allSTARS* and Steps, but higher than S Club 7, Hearsay and miles better than Liberty X. Jade McGuire (blonde lady) was on "X Factor UK" audition in 2015 year.

"Thru The Glass" became a pleasant surprise, never heard anything from this band before.

A little lower we have "wannabe 70s glam act" Pink Grease with his first UK top 40 single (unofficial 4.5/10). Killers big hit is a little annoying, Kings Of Leon song is even worse.

In the selected year there were many indie and rock singles in 30s places region of UK chart (due low sales level), which I didn't hear before. So I listened each unknown song three times.

I like 'When The Dawn Breaks' the best of that lot. Maybe you preferred their previous hit 'I Like It' with the female vocal?

'Somebody Told Me' is preferable to the overplayed and overrated Mr Brightside.

I don't like dance music. For the most weeks it will be dance and/or urban songs in a bottom.
