Still returning to the topic of AUTOPLAY - Espresso lost 957k streams on Spotify compared to previous Sunday while PPP gained 3.78 million, I would think part of it is caused by the autoplay feature switching to the latter (I got it just a minute ago after playing The Marías' great album).

I think when looking into these momentum shifts, it's more important to look at how much that 7 day rolling change compares to the days before and see if that spikes. So for instance, on Saturday, Friday & Thursday it lost about 600k streams per day, so it was already trending downward. So that's about a 350k shift in one day which might be significant, but there have been songs going from big positive bullets to extreme negative ones in the space of a single day that struck me as more egregious.

 

In saying all of this, I'm still fascinated by "Riptide"'s bizarre behaviour on the Australian chart earlier this month, which to me either reads that Spotify are having trouble correctly calibrating their data, or alternatively that a sizeable chunk of every song's streams are not autonomous.

Yes, I have to admit constantly reading the same circular thing about "autoplay" is getting tiring af.

another thing I just realised Espresso hasn't been that big of a hit in the US, it's up to a new peak at #3 this week in the US, for some reason I thought it had been #1 for the last month or so :D but it was actually the Post Malone country song that has been #1 and Espresso's peak was #4 until this week

A higher peak maybe but probably not #1. It's only peaked at #4 on US Streaming Songs (possible #2 or #3 this week? I'm not sure). It's starting to swing back but the last couple of months haven't really been dominated by airplay hits as much as usual.
