As a long standing Taylor stan, I find the endless variants & endless digital releases with ONE more "voice memo" on them embarrassingly greedy. I can't even defend it anymore. Everyone releases numerous vinyl variants etc, that's just standard nowadays, but this is a whole new level. She's my favourite artist and has been for 10+ years, but this is becoming ridiculous now. Take one look at the comments on taylornation's instagram where they announce a new variant and 95% of the comments are fans complaining about how they're sick of these variants etc. I appreciate nobody is forcing anybody to buy them, but the fact her team sit there and think they can keep doing this to manipulate the chart in any which way they want, especially when artists release new work, is pathetic. She literally has EVERYTHING. She is the BIGGEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD. Nobody comes close to her level of power, not even Beyonce (not pitting two women together, but just saying because I think we can all collectively agree Beyonce is the only other artist who people would consider to be close to Taylor's level of celebrity). She has broken every record imaginable and its unlikely we'll see an another artist have this level of fame and reach again in this generation. Why is 1 more week at #1 for her more important than an artist like Charli getting ONE shot at #1 on her debut week for her most critically acclaimed album yet, and the most critically acclaimed album of the year so far?

Again, love Taylor, but if she continues like this I fear we're going to have a repeat of the 2016 hate train saga. If its putting a sour taste in my mouth, a fan of over a decade who has spent thousands on her and going to her shows etc, then you know something is wrong.

Totally agree with the above, i just hope she sees the complaints from critics to fans alike and listens for once, we do not need any more variants it’s getting annoying now

Her team are probably more likely the people behind these last minute new additions to gain the extra week at number one than Taylor herself. It likely looks as though it’s a female artists issue because there hasn’t really been major male albums as of late the big artists releasing have just so happened to be female but I still think this week would’ve seen a UK push for the number one had Charli went onto release or not.

I don’t necessarily like the different editions of bonus tracks etc though. I wish she’d just released the 31 track edition from the off and if she wanted bundles just have it where the artwork is different but what’s on the album is the same (kinda like what Ariana did with eternal sunshine).

I don’t think she’s threatened though. She’s on another lane to any other artist on the planet at the minute and she’s shown her support for newer artists in the business many times as well as often praising some of her peers too just in the last week she was vocal in supporting Gaga for example after she experienced some bad comments.

I don’t necessarily know if things will change though because with Taylor the demand really is there for all these editions (and at some point surely the entire 31 track edition will make it to physicals).

No one is forcing you to buy. I didn't buy any of the 6 digital drops as they wasn't worth it and judging by only 1k downloads alot of people agreed with me.

What an intelligent insightful comment, adds a lot to this debate.

Cry harder.

No one is crying lmao. You sound like a stupid stan twitter account.

Anyway, going from the others comments, I agree the demand is obviously there. Whether it's her team or not that who knows but I think the way it's happened is a little weird - I personally don't know any artist who has dropped multi variants many weeks later on? Especially when they already have huge success?

You sound like someone who is deeply effected by an album , for me it isn't that deep if I like a cd I buy it if I don't then I don't, I don't whinge about any artists bringing out different variables as it doesn't personally effect my life unlike you clearly. I didn’t like the 6 digital copies so didn’t buy it. Like I said cry harder.

It is a music labels job to get as many copies of the album sold

This is such a narrow-minded and ignorant take. If it were that simple why is she being dragged by the media and her own fans?

The media pull you up only to drag you down they do it to all artist, they are nasty humans who stalk people for a living, I remember hearing how they camp outside people's homes it is creepy. It ks best to take the media with a pinch of salt.

As for fans they shouldn't let it get to them, just don't buy the variables if they don't sell the record label will get the picture, if the variables sell then they will bring out more. But I wouldn't let it bother you too much. No point worrying about the current variables as you can't change that.

Yeah I'm sure The Guardian are camping outside Taylor's flat waiting to drag her. The delusion is real.

No artist is releasing 34 variants/versions of an album and manipulating the charts and her own fans like this. I think the poor reviews the album got from critics have a part to play in all this.

Wise woman (Lana del Rey) once said that Taylor wants to be popular more than anything, so she is definitely in charge of releasing all this stuff, starting from the 31 track mammoth album itself. I am sure she doesn't hesitate a second if she needs to choose between success and quality (which is why the album has 31 tracks in the first place, streams will keep it charting well in the US even without proper hits).

She also chases records and will move anything out of her way if needed.

Now, the relationship with other female artists is another question. I have to say it a bit too convenient that when Olivia Rodrigo started to score bigger hits than her, she went from supportive to "I'm suing her" mode. There is obviously something behind the scenes between Billie and her. And who knows what happens when Sabrina now rules the charts this year. Hypothetically her single can even block the Rep TV focus track later this year.

So let's say I haven't got good vibes from her in recent years and leave it there.

I wasn't talking about Taylor I was talking about celebrities In general and I have seen photo's of the press camping out celebrities homes, it isn't my fault you don't trust the photo evidence. Cheryl had to get a Restraining order against the media because they was camping outside her home years back.

Wtf are you going on about, love?

How does this twaddle even relate to the topic?

If you had of read above you would have read someone say that the media have been negative about Taylor, I then went on to say that the media do that with celebrities they big them up only to run them down , i then went on to say the press stalk people and even camp out their houses, the person then randomly brought up a certain paper and said I doubt they sit out Taylor flat to grab her, I was then called delusional for it, my reply was the is photo evidence that the media stalk celebrities and then I went on to say Cheryl had to issue a restraining order because of the issues she had with the media camping outside her home.

The point of the topic though is why does she feel inclined to release so many with 1 minor change? Yes a label will want sell as many records as possible, we all know that - but the point of this thread (I think, anyway) is to point out the fact that Taylor seems to purposely be doing it now to block others from getting to #1. The second somebody else is predicted to hit #1 over her, they'll pull out a few more variants from somewhere to make sure Taylor remains at #1

She did it with Billie and she's now done it with Charli. The 3 new versions were UK only, the one place Charli was due to hit #1 over her, and they specifically stated they were only available for 6 hours on Thursday evening... conveniently on the day we found out Charli was in the lead for #1. I don't know how anybody can argue that that isn't clear evidence that her/her team were trying to maintain the #1 spot, regardless of who they were blocking. If it was only about the sales overall then they would have released them everywhere, but no, it was SPECIFICALLY the UK and you HAD to buy it by midnight the day the chart tracking stopped... It's giving mean girl/loser energy, I'm sorry, it just is. I've loved her forever but I can't defend her here. The "nobody is forcing you to buy it!!!" argument I can understand to an extent but it doesn't change the fact that Taylor/her team are clearly trying to do everything in their power to keep Taylor at #1 in the UK/US and are purposely going out of their way to block anybody who threatens that

apt that she's potentially releasing Reputation TV at a time where here public image has taken several major blows

Her commitment to the bit is impeccable. The reputation “backlash” was so manufactured the first time around! She wanted a flop era without the flopping

Those 6 variants was download only , taylor sold just over 1k in downloads in 7 days which means like me no one liked them enough to buy. Charli was 8k short of number 1. The signed Taylor copies was the deciding factor, it took me 5th tries to get a signed copy because her drops didn't meet up with demand, from what I heard Charli also had signed copies or am I wrong?

I have gone from absolutely not being able to stand her to adoring her from Folklore. However very quickly again I am getting irritated by her.
