Beverley Knight - she had/has a great voice and despite the odd stand out single, she never managed to put together enough really strong material to drag her out of the MOR space.

I actually think beverly Knight's material was amazing in the first 2-3 albums.

Same with Diana Vickers, they got some great songwriters for her debut and lots of amazing songs.

I think Beverley Knight and Rebecca Ferguson are definitely the two best shouts already mentioned in this thread - both are amazing vocalists. I can't think of any better suggestions.

Yeah, definitely :(

She has a few great songs and undoubtedly has one of the best voices this country has ever produced, but most of her material lets her down. Especially the slew of soul covers.

Another Eurovision artist I would have loved to see a longer enduring career for was Javine, whose success ended following 2005.

I wanted this to be bigger and of course it was omitted from Now 61 at the time too. :(

At the time I thought it was a bit of a cheap copy of the south-eastern European Turkish/Armenian etc. Eurovision entry style of the time but I still liked it. So was Holly Valance's 'Kiss Kiss' in my opinion!

One of the best live vocalists I have ever seen, to the extent I was blown away in shock when I saw her live by how outstanding she was, is Lucie Silvas. The power, tone and control she has is quite astonishing.

But aside from the perfect Breathe In album and the odd song here and there since (Letters To Ghosts was good), I've never been massively won over by her other material. I do wonder what happened and how much bigger she could have been if she'd unleashed a really killer second album. Singer/songwriter/piano/authentic stuff was all the rage in 2006 and she definitely had the potential to capitalise but Last Year was not really the lead single she needed and nobody really bought the album. Then the next album didn't follow until nearly a decade later.

I was going to start a new thread but I guess this is a continuation of the original topic - where do you think there have been huge missed opportunities? Just in terms of songs, performance opportunities etc.

Apparently Leona Lewis was offered songs (or her record label was) such as Rihanna's "We Found Love" which were turned down, but I don't know how true that is.

Luther Vandross. Don't get me wrong, he's had some classics such as "Never Too Much" but if you've been watching the Top of the Pops reruns you'll find he had quite a few bland records too. He's one of the best singers ever and his voice was so good it actually made some of the bland records listenable.
