Surprised Atomic Kitten haven't been doing the rounds with Southgate you're the one again lol.

England deserved the win today, I actually felt like that first half they should have had 3 or 4 goals they were unlucky as had some excellent shots. Second half Netherlands were better as they were attacking more while England weren't they were just trying to control the balls more. That was some goal from Watkins though utterly fantastic, I totally disregarded it and then it actually went in!

Cue the latest round of the Rooney/Steve201 debate about Southgate. :kink:

I had to watch the whole thing on catchup but I didn't miss a minute and I made sure not to check my phone all evening to ensure the element of surprise remained!

Wowzers.

Can't wait for Steve to prepare it was a masterclass bringing on Watkins when the reality is, Watkins did exactly what Kane has not been doing all tournament! :P

Where I’d give Southgate credit and I haven’t seen anyone mention this anywhere yet but he took both Watkins and Toney when everybody assumed and expected taking just one and both have had huge contributions although maybe he knew Kane had an injury and that was why nevertheless Toney & Watkins over Rashford and Grealish was the right decision for sure

So this is the third England match in a row where we came back to win from behind, and the fourth match in a row in the tournament as a whole where the first team to score ended up losing. Rooting for Spain to score first in the final then... :teresa:

This should've gone to extension at least. So sad to lose this last minute. The ref was terrible though, how was he allowed to do the semi??

Spain was gonna win over whoever came out of this semi, but I'm hoping they go a lil' harder on the English :kink:

Kane is 100% carrying an injury. He did his back in and he just doesn't look right at all, wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's using injections to get through the games. With a squad of 26 you probably want 3 strikers, just a bit bonkers he continues to play Kane when he's not quite right.

He brought him on to stretch the tired defence I’m sure which is different to what Kane was offering. Not sure anyone would drop englands record goal scorer from the Euro semi final. He would have been torn apart by the likes of yourself if he had done that and they had lost.

Have to admit didn’t think Ollie had it in him when the ball landed at his feet when he scored, thought they had it covered. Dare I say it was a very Kanesque finish.

People would have criticised him for dropping Kane, but not me. He's obviously not right and Kane has form for this (Carabo Cup final in 2021 and of course the Champions League final in 2019). He just doesn't look right and it affects our play imo. Not saying Watkins would have started, but if you want what Kane offers then we have Toney too who is a more natural fit to the team and the current structure.

Given the outcome, how significant is it that this is England's first final on foreign soil in any competition? The commentators mentioned it a few times and it has got me thinking is this more surreal than it is...

We won’t know whether he’s fully fit or not until after but it’s hard for any manager to drop him, I don’t think Watkins is as natural a goal scorer as Kane so every miss the Preasure would build for him. The post Kane era might start in Sept WC Qualifieds for England though but we shall see.

Quite shocked that the bbc didn’t have any studio coverage of this in their highlights show just a pitch side presenter with no post game analysis, assume they were all out watching the game on the piss!

disagree, the second half was quite even but I think England far outperformed the Dutch in the first half aside from Simons’ great goal

An amazing moment that Watkins goal, wasn't sure whether to celebrate as it was not long after the Saka goal was chalked off but blimey, the collective emotion being let out in the pub I was in. More fantastic memories under SouthGOAT.

Back to back finals really is something spectacular, everything crossed we can get over the line this time. Unlike in 2021 when we were the favourites we are certainly the underdogs now so I think that may take a little pressure off the lads.
