Posted July 22, 20241 yr Hi all! This thread is the thread for covering Miscellaneous Sports at the Olympics this year. This includes the following sports: Archery, Breaking, Fencing, Field Hockey, Modern Pentathlon, Shooting, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing, Weightlifting. Feel free to discuss all the ins and outs of the sports, any predictions you may have, support for the athletes and anything else you notice as we kick off on Friday!
July 25, 20241 yr Author Halfway through the Woman's Archery Ranking Round and Korea have two of the top three places, GB's contestants in 40th, 45th and 47th places out of 64 https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/results/...al/qual000100--
July 27, 20241 yr I supported Estonian fencer Nelli Differt in a match for third place, but it was an interesting fight. So Eszter Muhari from Hungary, who won bronze medal is my first "Heroine of the day".
July 27, 20241 yr Both Fencing finals were great to watch, shame it wasn't given coverage on BBC, especially Hong Kong coming from a 7-1 deficit against France to win!
July 27, 20241 yr I caught the BBC playing a recap of the end of the Hong Kong vs. France fencing final - I think fencing is one of the few Olympic sports that I've never actively watched before, quite intriguing to watch the strategy playing out there. And I do like a good comeback especially when it ends with France losing so B-)
July 27, 20241 yr Indeed, the ending was fun to watch play out! A good comeback from the lady from Hong Kong (even if, if I've worked out the format correctly, she was the favourite to win).
July 30, 20241 yr A gold medal for Nathan Hales in the trap shooting. He only missed two out of his 50 shots! I'm not sure why they were playing pop music throughout the whole thing. If I was a spectator there, I would have found that annoying.
July 30, 20241 yr Nice result for Guatemala getting only their second ever Olympic medal with a bronze in the same event as well.
July 30, 20241 yr Aye a great gold for Hales there - with an Olympic record no less! And yes, great result for Guatemala as well.
July 31, 20241 yr Author Congratulations to Guatemala. Their first ever gold medal with Adriana Ruano winning the women's trap.
July 31, 20241 yr Who knew Guatemala were suddenly so good at trap shooting :o  nice to see our first country getting a first ever gold this year already.
August 1, 20241 yr Turkiye's Yusuf Dikec's silver-medal shooting performance was just epic! :cheeseblock:
August 6, 20241 yr Author Congratulations Sky Brown with a dislocated right shoulder and a tear to the medial collateral ligament in her right knee to win bronze in the women's skateboarding.
August 7, 20241 yr We've got two people in the final for the Men's Lead/Boulder climbing, with Toby Roberts looking like he might get a medal! Should be good to follow. And wow at us sending a 51 year-old to the skateboarding :o
August 8, 20241 yr Veddriq Leonardo, thank you so much for keeping our gold-medal streak alive! :cheeseblock:
August 8, 20241 yr Rizki Juniansyah!! Thank you so f***ing much!! :cheeseblock: This year's much better for us than the last 2 Olympics. 2 precious gold medals!
August 9, 2024Aug 9 A gold medal for Toby Roberts in the Boulder and Lead Climbing. That was a tense sport to watch, the Japanese climber going last looked well on course but fell down just before he got to the level he needed for the gold.
August 9, 2024Aug 9 Indeed, great result for Toby! My sister is really into the climbing si we had it on this morning, great to see his lead climb was enough to get him the gold. Good result for Hamish McArthur as well, finishing fifth when he wasn't really expected to qualify for the Final!
August 9, 2024Aug 9 @1821938402645958782 the internet kinda erupted by an odd scene in breaking competition
