September 2Sep 2 So until October Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie will be Going Home with Katie and Emil. It's getting a bit ridiculous now but Katie said Vick and Jamie will come back with a bang in October, hopefully meaning they will present the show every day now. This does mean Emil will be in London 4 days a week for Going Home then in Salford for Weekend Breakfast, he's a hard-working guy.

September 6Sep 6 Author Does anyone know why they've stopped producing new episodes of the 2 hour Anthems shows? It's making the whole Anthems stream a little stale with constant repeats 🫢

September 8Sep 8 Listening to Mylo and Rosie and thinking it's quite mad how much 90s Radio 1 hated 80s Radio 1. Nowadays you hear songs from 10, 20, 25 years ago all the time on Radio 1, 30 if it's things like Firestarter, Insomnia and Born Slippy. And something like Shut Up and Dance that was just on feels like ten minutes ago to me. They wouldn't have touched an 11-year-old song like that in the mid-90s or even the 00s if I remember rightly. Heck, they even played Stop by the Spice Girls an hour ago. I wonder how the imaginary young people they target feel about it all. Ten years is ages to someone in the target audience, not so much for all of us pensioners who just refuse to tune out ever obviously. What was it about the 80s they wanted to get away from so much? Associations with cheesy DJs? Did the 80s sound more dated then than they do now? They'll slip in a song from 2010 like Alejandro or California Gurls without batting an eyelid now. They certainly weren't playing very much from 1984 in 2000. I remember, I was there. And now Shake It Off is on! And Sing, also from 12 years ago!How far back should R1 go in your opinion? I suppose now R1 Anthems is a thing they have an excuse for randomly dropping in songs from totally different eras as it helps promote that. I guess it's ironic how I'm one of the old fart listeners that wants more new music, not less. I'm sure someone with massive pop culture analysis skills has a very deep and intellectual answer to this that's all about streaming culture, slowdowns in pop production techniques etc. Edited September 8Sep 8 by HiyaLuv!
September 8Sep 8 Author Given the charts and social media is littered with older tracks being popular I think it makes sense that a youth targeting station still plays those tracks, within reason.

September 8Sep 8 Basically what Lewis described above. They are just responding to the changing listener habits during the social media age. Plus the music now all sounds very samey. Something from 2004 would fit in just fine now depending on the genre and song. Whereas the eras prior to 2000 sounded very unique and different to that era!
