Posted August 13, 2024Aug 13 It’s been probably years since I did a self indulgent thread like this, so join me as I rank 60 queens who have won Drag Race over the years, across many countries and franchises. I say almost every winner because a certain Shar*n won’t be given the time of day here due to obvious reasons, and Leona Winter and Luz Violeta of The Switch are also excluded as I’ve only seen bits of that.
August 13, 2024Aug 13 Author 60 Captivating KatKat (Drag Race Phillipines Season 2) Wins: 2 (Snatch Game, acting) Bottoms: 1 (advert) Blacktivating Racist brings up the rear. For those not au fait with her, she unapologetically did blackface and doubled down when challenged, never once taking any opportunity to grow. When challenged she pretty much said black people love being victims and take any chance to complain, yikes. On the season, she did… fine, she got two wins in Snatch Game and acting, but she definitely didn’t feel like the winner of the season and they did ØV c**t and Bernie in particular dirty in favour of pushing KatKat. She was also a nasty presence on the season, particularly at the start when she was just horrid towards Jade, coming across bitter as anything there. Bernie was so so robbed. 59 Blu Hydrangea (UK vs The World Season 1) Wins: 1 (Snatch Game) Bottoms: 1 (Rumix) At least she’s not a racist is about the only positive I have here  She didn’t do horribly across the season she won, but I just find the fact she won the first ever cross franchise All Stars an absolute joke and she only won because half the contestants that season couldn’t give a shit and the other half got eliminated unfairly (Janey/Pangina/Jimbo) when they could won. Utter mediocrity crowned because nobody in that finale gave a single f*** and her lipsyncing like she was on speed somehow outshone that. I would have been interested to see her if she leaned more into the creative makeup she kind of branded herself on during season 1, but she came back as the most generic queen she could have. 58 Tyra Sanchez (Drag Race Season 2) Wins: 3 (acting, runway/photoshoot, Ball) Bottoms: none The first Drag Race winner of the 2010s, Tyra won way back when Drag Race was still on Logo, still only had the US franchise, and the prize money was only a tenth of what it is now at $25,000. James’ “legacy” since then speaks for itself, with the saga of him threatening to bomb Dragcon leading to her quitting drag, I believe James is now called King Tyra after a period of not wanting to be referred to by his old drag name, but I don’t keep up with him tbh. On the show, as much as people love to say Raven was robbed, I do think Tyra rightfully won and really changed the game and set a bar for Drag Race in some ways, which can’t be understated. 57 Sharonne (Drag Race España Season 2) Wins: 3 (talent show, Snatch Game, advert) Bottoms: none Like the aforementioned KatKat, Sharonne was marred by her blackface past when she appeared on the show, having sang as Donna Summer on the Spanish version of the TV show Your Face Sounds Familiar, but the Spanish legend did apologise and seemed much more understanding of the impact it could have had. Sharonne is the archetype that Spanish Drag Race has been come to be known for, the obvious season long front runner who is pushed to the win no matter what. Now I won’t lie, Sharonne did well through the season and didn’t take much pushing, but it did come to be one of those cases where the bits and pieces of pushing made her run a bit more unbearable, and her classic style of campy drag I felt was nothing new. On a season with the likes of Juriji and Venedita, my eyes were elsewhere and I couldn’t help feeling disappointed that Sharonne won. 56 Venus (Canada’s Drag Race Season 4) Wins: 1 (runway) Bottoms: none I definitely don’t dislike Venus, I cannot fathom how she won the season she was on, when we had the likes of Aurora and Melinda. She came across as good at Drag Race but not necessarily sure on her drag yet, like a twink wondered onto sort and just happened to be good at the challenges they had? Idk, I don’t dislike her like I said but it was an odd edit and storyline, just felt like a damp squib winner for a really good season, but Canada did that twice (more on that later). Rumours did say she was on AS10 which would have been interesting but that doesn’t appear to have come to fruition, but she has her crown so good on her. She didn’t really do badly at anything through the season but I don’t feel like she shone at anything either, her only win in the week 1 entrance/Ball/performance was a definite stretch imo. 55 Vanessa Van Cartier (Drag Race Holland Season 2) [ Wins: 1 (makeover) Bottoms: none Vanessa is a legend and a Miss Continental, let that be known. But her run on her season has to be one of, if not the, most underwhelming for a winner, with one win that was debatable and a singular high that was a huge stretch. Nevertheless, it would feel wrong for her not to have won, it was an odd case where she was the obvious winner (other than probably the most robbed queen of all time Keta Minaj) but her run just didn’t show, even if her aura, presence, and level of drag did. 54 Natalia Pliacam (Drag Race Thailand Season 1) Wins: 3 (runway/photoshoot, awards hosting, Snatch Game) Bottoms: 1 (Snatch Game runway) The first ever winner outside of America, and the first ever plus size queen to win, Natalia triumphed after a season of ups and downs, including when she won the awards challenge and was in the bottom the same episode for a basic runway, you have to have the Thailand format that made the runway decide eliminations  She actually gave one of my favourite Snatch Games with her Sunmanee Gunakasem, one of those performances where I have no idea who the person is, yet I feel like I know them and love them adterward due to a hysterical and masterful performance that crossed the language barrier for me. Natalia is not the most memorable aside from that, but a decent winner nonetheless. 53 Lawrence Chaney (Drag Race UK Season 2) Wins: 3 (improv, girl groups, design) Bottoms: 1 (Snatch Game) This is probably the first controversial placement here! I have never been a huge fan of Lawrence, I don’t vibe with her humour that much and think she was overhyped a bit on the season. What I actually think she deserves more credit for is her fashion, as she’s a rare example of a big girl who knows what looks good on her body and changes it up, we don’t see that often on Drag Race. Lawrence gave some great performances through the season, winning improv, girl groups and design, and only really faltered with a limp Miriam Margoyles in Snatch Game, but Lawrence is just not my favourite. And I’m not even a Bimini should have won girlie per se, if I’m honest I’m a Tayce should have been treated better and won truther! 52 Tia Kofi (UK vs The World Season 2) Wins: 4 (adverts, Snatch Game, roast, Rusical) Bottoms: none UK2 girls doing very well here oops, again this will be controversial but here we have the winner of the latest UK season. I really didn’t like Tia on UK2, and I wasn’t that fussed on her coming back for UKvTW2 either. I did enjoy her more on her winning season, I feel like you could see she was in a better place and knew who she is, giving some funny performances including a deadpan Anne Boelyn for Snatch Game, but I do feel like there were a handful of queens who stood out more that season and I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed when Tia ended up winning. I seem to quite like her when I see her podcast pop up on TikTok so maybe she’s one of those queens who’s better off of Drag Race than on the show. 51 Gisèle Lullaby (Canada Season 3) Wins: 2 (Snatch Game, design) Bottoms: 1 (Rusical) One of the most narratively odd winners ever. We had Fierce causing chaos and going up and up in the challenges, we had Kimmy Couture being a satisfying underdog, yet we ended up with a top 2 of Jada (who did nothing all season) and Gisèle, who was kind of there all season, randomly ate Snatch Game and design, then proceeded to be just there again. I did love Gisèle’s fashion, and her aforementioned Snatch Game was so wonderfully stupid I couldn’t help but laugh, she did well across the season for sure, and actually was a total sweetheart when I met her at Dragcon too. I suppose it was also nice to see an ESL Queen succeed on an English season and get a Francophone winner too.
August 13, 2024Aug 13 Ngl I love these low placements for Venus and Tia. In my opinion Tia wasn't even in the top 4 performers on UK vs 2 and it's wild that she was rewarded for both a) screwing her team over to do better herself in the team challenge and b) being the best in comedy challenges when she was the only queen actually competing in her first language.
August 17, 2024Aug 17 omg toootally disagree on gisele! she was the only acceptable winner on that season. she had a bit of a slow start but grew into a total polished front runner. i think maybe they had pegged jada as a winner but she just flopped, fierce was lol but totally unserious and too immature to win and kimmy... kept showing up for filming i guess
August 18, 2024Aug 18 I didn't like Sharonne much either and the constant pushing off her was awful from production. One of my least favourite winners for sure.
August 18, 2024Aug 18 Hmmm can't say I agree with such low placements for Blu, Lawrence, Tia and Gisele. Tyra being in front of Blu is quite the choice too. Also Sharon, given alot of things which have come out about her post show.
August 18, 2024Aug 18 Author Blu Hydrangea having fans well I never Also Sharon isn’t even on this list for that reason
August 18, 2024Aug 18 Author 50 Organzza (Drag Race Brazil Season 1) Wins: 3 (girl groups, acting, makeover) Bottoms: 1 (roast) For some reason I couldn’t fully get into Brazil, but Organzza was great, I was kind of rooting for Hellena but Organzza had a really interesting edit and killed the competition. She was kind of giving professional and villain, front runner and also at times overlooked, but she got her crown in the end, unfortunately she also earned an insane amount of online hate, possibly the most I’ve seen on Drag Race, due to racist idiots. 49 Precious Paula Nicole (Drag Race Phillipines Season 1) Wins: 1 (Rusical) Bottoms: none Truly and honestly, PPN feels like such a random winner. She did well across the season including design and improv, winning the Rusical along the way, however it was one of those Rusical wins where the part was so obviously written to win, but despite this she kind of had no impact across the season and felt a bit underrated. Either way, she culminated the season in somehow being the only person able to destroy Marina Summers in a lipsync, giving possibly the best finale lipsync I’ve ever seen. I do kind of live for when someone mothers the finale so hard they just have to win regardless  48 Trinity The Tuck (Drag Race All Stars Season 4) Wins: 4 (talent show, Snatch Game, club design, acting) Bottoms: 1 (roast) This might be controversial to some, as the first big US name to drop here. Trinity is amazing at Drag Race, she has given iconic challenge performances and her range of skills always shines on the show. But for me, she is one of those queens that sort of gives exactly what you expect no matter what challenge or runway it was. Very tailored to Drag Race, which is fine, but I just don’t get a spark or anything unique necessarily and I think her runs on the show were a bit overstated and inflated. I still think she shouldn’t have even won AS4 tbh, but that’s another story and discourse. 47 Le Filip (Drag Race France Season 3) Wins: none (top 2 for Rusical) Bottoms: 1 (Snatch Game) We go from the queen with the most challenge wins in history, to a queen who won the crown without winning any challenges! Le Filip was so pulled all season, being a drily witty Slavic queen who somehow slayed a standup routine for the talent show. She was kind of cast aside, and the season felt like a rather exciting two horse race between the brilliant Lula and Ruby and then…. Filip won  She absolutely killed the final, and they didn’t pay her her flowers all season so I guess it caught up when they skipped that and just crowned her at the end, showing it really can come down to the finale sometimes. 46 Drag Sethlas (Drag Race España All Stars Season 1) Wins: 4 (talent show, Snatch Game, Ball, roast) Bottoms: none We’ve established across its four seasons that España loves an obvious winner, and their first Hall Of Famer was no different. Sethlas actually has I believe statistically the best track of all time, being in the top 2 for 4 out of 5 compeieitve episodes, and high for the other. Sethlas did pretty much deserve all these (slightly egregious Ball high aside) but just wasn’t the most likeable or the queen that gave the best television, although it was incredible to see the level of drag she brought and the determination she had to get that crown. 45 Cristian Peralta (Drag Race Mexico Season 1) Wins: 5 (runway, Snatch Game, Rusical, roast, makeover) Bottoms: none Talking of obvious winners… Truly nobody else had a shot, and Cristian is actually the only main season winner to have 5 challenge wins (DeLa and Jikx both did with a top 2 format, and Angele Anang on Thailand 2 did it counting runway wins, she actually got 6). I was kind of rooting for Matraka but it would honestly have been so wrong to see Cristian lose. To win 5 challenges and none of them were stretches is kind of insane. 44 Bebe Zahara Benet (Drag Race Season 1) Wins: 2 (hosting, Ball) Bottoms: 1 (makeover) Bebe was of course the first ever winner, back when the show had a sepia toned filter, Snatch Game wasn’t even a thing, and the winner “only” got $20k. Bebe set home the front runner Ongina in the first ever shock elimination, and its contentious among the fanbase whether her or Ongina should have stayed, but Bebe did kill the season. She’s never been my absolute favourite, but she really set the bar at the time, I just think drag has moved on since and shown so much more so not as great a showing here as it could be, all the queens are great from this section onwards though so I do still appreciate Bebe! 43 Krystal Versace (Drag Race UK Season 3) Wins: 2 (runway, whatever the f*** Dragoton was) Bottoms: 1 (roast) This might be controversial as I feel like people don’t love her, she’s not my fave hence why she’s only here but season 3 was absolutely abysmal and one of the only decent arcs was Krystal’s growth. I remember hating her at the start of the season, and ending it thinking she was absolutely the right winner. She broke the mold a bit as the first and so far only fashion queen to win the UK franchise, and I think in that avenue she is streets ahead of the UK girls. I wonder what she would be like given a bit more time to grow because at just 19 and the youngest winner ever, she fully earned that crown. I feel like Kitty and Ella were good at the certain avenues Drag Race wants, and ostensibly did better in the competition, but Krystal is and was the star. 42 Elecktra Bionic (Drag Race Italia Season 1) Wins: none Bottoms: none Back in her season, Elecktra made history as the first ever queen with no challenge wins to take the crown. Her track record of. SAFE-SAFE-SAFE-SAFE-HIGH seems so pulled, Italia 1 was odd and had only one or in one case no high placement oer episode, and in my judging Elecktra was in the top all of the season and should have at the very least won Snatch Game. Elecktra is also another example of absolutely destroying the finale to the point she had to win, I remember everyone being so mad that Farida lost but I was elated being Team Elecktra the whole season! 41 Lina Galore (Drag Race Italia Season 3) Wins: 3 (Dragcon panels, roast, singing) Now I just might make a case for Melissa Bianchini losing Italia 3 being the biggest robbery in Drag Race herstory, and one of Lina’s 3 wins being possibly the most egregious of all time that was given just based on her runway. But judging just Lina, I really do love her drag. The way that she looks at runway themes and how she approaches them is so uniquely striking and always memorable, and her makeup style and genderf*** themes being the centre of her drag means you always know it’s Lina. I think she’s really underrated as a queen just because Italia 3 was fully Melissa’s and people just remember the rightful outrage that she didn’t win, but I will take this countdown to highlight how great Lina is. Oh and if this was based on how hot the winners are, she would be #1 with ease (although the actual #1 would challenge).
August 19, 2024Aug 19 Also Sharon isn’t even on this list for that reason Sorry; should've actually read the first post
September 7, 2024Sep 7 Author 40 Alvilda (Drag Race Belgique Season 2) Wins: 3 (girl groups, standup, Rumix) Bottoms: 1 (Makeover) The first of two Belgique winners, for a small franchise they have had two decent winners. Alvilda was a pretty clear and strong front runner, honestly she could have had a Keiona run as her only placement below high was bottom for the makeover which was kind of ridiculous. It was really not even a contest the entire time, she left the girls in the dust! 39 Isis Avis Loren (Drag Race Down Under Season 1) Wins: 3 (design, talent, makeover) Bottoms: none I really don’t think Isis gets the credit she deserves for eating up her season, because people like to write off Down Under. She feasibly could have had 5 wins (design, girl groups, Snatch Game, girl groups as a group and makeover with Flor) and I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. Isis wasn’t the biggest character or most exciting TV, but she had such a polished focus to her drag that I loved. Flor was the heart of the season but Isis absolute devoured everyone else that season and whilst she doesn’t have the personality if Kita (who I actually missed off this list lmfao somehow, she would be a few places higher) and Spankie but she was a third great winner in a row for a fledgling oft maligned franchise. 38 Chad Michaels (Drag Race All Stars Season 1) Wins: 3 (Queens Behaving Badly, design, girl group makeover) Bottoms: 1 (runway) The original All Stars winner, at the time people were pretty mad at a season that felt solely made for Chad to win! Chad is absolute drag legend and a consummate professional, with to this day one of the best Snatch Games from her original run as Cher, the impersonation that Mother Dust made her name with. All these years have passed and I’d wager that Chad will still hold her own and pose a threat to anybody in All Winners if she were to return. 37 Pitita (Drag Race España Season 3) Wins: 4 (Ball, acting, Rusical, improv) Bottoms: 1 (standup) España 3 was quite a reviled season, falling victim to the so called season 3 curse, and a lot of that was the judging. Pitita was by far the judges favourite, but she was a deserved winner either way, with such star power and elevated looks. She was pushed to the Rusical win though and her winning improv solo instead of with Clover was questionable. seeming like a looks queen, Pitita smashed the episode 4 horror acting challenge and became the front runner who could do it all. It was also iconic how Visa sabotaged her as her partner in the stand up return challenge so she was in the bottom but she sent home Pink Chadora and Pakita in her only misstep of the season. 36 Ginger Johnson (Drag Race UK Season 5) Wins: 3 (Dragcon panels, Snatch Game, Rusical) Bottoms: none One of the hottest winners out of drag and that’s on that x Ginger absolutely killed season 5 and it was pretty much a two horse race between her and Michael Marouli, both of whom didn’t falter the entire time. Ginger is a campy queen as basically every UK winner is but she holds her own and has a thought behind her drag and looks I feel and is good at basically everything,, from a stellar Snatch Game to an absolutely flawless makeover.
