It will flop, they are not ABBA and need to stop thinking they are!

  • It's such a bad bad idea... And this was clearly planted by Simon and his team to see if there is any traction to it. Ive had a look and all comments everywhere seem very negative, so that should be a

It's a horrible idea at this point, it's simply far too early. By all means think about doing it in 2046... but not now!! They're only in their early 50s (or 49 x), there's really no valid excuses for

Someone just tried to call this band MANUFACTURED!!!! I set the record straight INMEDIATELY!!

What’s the tea?

This has gone viral and it is super cute and positive. It is one of the reasons why I will always somehow support them. Even back in the 90s they were such positive icons of support for LGBTQIA+ people.

Victoria's answers are hilarious, but look at the 4th screen shot: they were ALL pro LGBTQIA:

Victoria Beckham’s no-nonsense responses in this old Spice Girls advice column might be the greatest thing she’s ever done

 She was always witty.

That question shows how bad social constructs were (and still are), that the boy’s sister leapt to “pervert” as her first rationale as to why he’d want to wear stereotypically women’s clothes. While I hope people nowadays wouldn’t land on that word, sadly I’m sure a lot of attitudes are still that it would be a shocking and negative thing to become aware of. So I’m glad that they gave good answers, which was pretty forward thinking for the 90s.

Totally agree. Sadly, the 'pervert' tag is what most anti-LGBTQ nuts use today still and in a lot of places attitudes towards this seemingly are going backwards.

Glad they have always been at the right side of this!

Honestly, the attitudes were so backwards (and still are in some circles).

Good for the girls they were always incredibly forward thinking, they don't get enough credit for it.

Because most pop stars today are (thankfully) openly supportive of the gay community, it's easy to forget how different the world was in 1996/97/98. A sort of casual homophobia really was the mainstream. This interview is years before some particular Eminem songs and videos, after all. You could say the Spices' support was playing to their fanbase...but in all honesty, it was riskier for them commercially to keep referencing their gay fans than to do what most of their contemporaries did...avoid the subject. And the Spices did voice their support for the gay community even when they weren't prompted.

I'm also a Madonna fan, and this isn't meant as a dig at her...but her support of the gay community was always kinda in-your-face and abrasive. It was intentionally confrontational...and perhaps the world needed that. She's a trailblazer, after all. But I also appreciate the Spices' approach...which I think is closer to how Dolly Parton handled the subject. What they did was just welcoming...and took on homophobia with humor, mocking it.

I think the difference between Madonna and Spice Girls is Madonna wanted to use it for controversy like with everything else she does. That doesn't take away from her support and impact however her entire career was built around being a 'controversial' so it was beneficial for her to do it too.

Oh for sure. She did amazing work for sure and advanced a lot in mainstream media for LGBTQIA+ people, but it was definitely also beneficial for her. Still today!

Whilst it was great they showed their support at a time it may not have been as favourable to do so, I'm pretty sure things like "Margaret Thatcher is wonderful" must have felt like a bit of a slap in the face.

To be fair they never said that, Geri said that she admired her because of being a woman in a man's world. Melanie C also spoke out and said she was fiercely anti-tory. They whole point is they were different flavours in one group and Geri / Victoria were a part of that.

I won't go into any specifics on this because I'm not looking to rile up any other fanbases...but I'll just say this in general; a lot of pop stars today still support certain politicians because they belong to an underrepresented group...while not paying much mind to that politician's actual history/stances on a lot of things.

And I think that's what happened with Geri in the 90s. Does that completely defend it? No. But it's relevant context. Geri also claimed to be a big Marilyn Monroe fan around that same time...while not having seen a single Monroe film. I think she tended to like...her perception of a person? Going back to Margaret Thatcher. When Mel B was prompted to make a supportive Margaret Thatcher comment on an Adult Swim show a few years ago, she was clearly blindsided when the host told her some realities of Thatcher's time in office. What does that say? Honestly, not a lot. Mel got egg on her face because she's a celeb who got called out on a show, but in all reality, most people don't know controversies about Thatcher or any other politician from that long ago.

I agree with this, and I am 100% anti Thatcher and Tori myself, would never vote them or support them in any form whatsoever.

All of the girls are at Victoria's 50th, hopefully we get a picture of all 5!

I'm torn over getting a pic or not. We know they have met up as 5 a few times since 2018 pic that we never saw a pic from. So to get one for Victoria's birthday would be a bit because she is the most important Spice feeling.

But obviously I'd want to see it.

^I think the only time all 5 have met up since 2018 was in 2020 for a walk near Geri's? Has there been any other time?
