I am not sure if it's in the right place to post, but who is this year's likely one-hit wonder out of the big hits this year?

My money is on Dasha. I can't see her having any other hit either here in the UK or US than "Austin". Just limited potential, and her album hasn't been hit in either major market.

Although he's had two top 20s and a top 10 album, I think Teddy Swims will be someone who will disappear and have limited success (mainly around the lower ranking end of the album chart).

It depends on what your exact definition of one hit wonder is, but I think there are plenty of more contenders outside of just Dasha.

Shaboozey, Jordan Adetunji, Hanumankind, Michael Marcagi, Mark Ambor, Bl3ss, NewEra - I'd be surprised if any of those manage another hit this year.

Artemas and Shaboozey definitely.

Artemas was the first one that came to my mind but technically he's already had two top 40 hits so not sure if he counts :P

Interesting names given out there. Yeah Shaboozey screams one-hit wonder. I dread to think what it sounds like live, as it sounds autotuned to hell. Artemas is just faceless dance act that people quickly forget.

Definitely wouldn't count Artemas (and I could easily see the stars aligning for him to get another hit).

Shaboozey came to my mind, Dasha too, nowadays it's often the viral hit artists who tend to be the one hit wonders (or the more faceless dance acts like NewEra or BL3SS as mentioned).

Can confirm Shaboozey sounds just the same live x

That's often the way and I'm guessing that evil app TikTok was to play. Artemas, probably some collab with a rent a singer like Ella Henderson.

Artemas is the vocalist on his songs so I wouldn't expect that to happen...!

you really are understimating Artemas

you seem clueless about who he is if you think he's gonna put something out with Ella Henderson lol

I'll give everyone who posts on this forum 100 quid if Artemas collabs with Ella Henderson

Shaboozey seems like the most obvious one, I'd easily bet against Dasha getting another one too but that seems like a classic novelty one-hit-wonder.

Shaboozey might be a UK 1HW, but he will definitely have more US hits in the future and who knows if he's collaborating with Post Malone next time.

Blake Shelton is the first name coming out of my head after Dasha. The men behind Kisses will surely be. Myles Smith can avoid being a 1HW should he collab with either Jax Jones or The Almighty David Guetta for another Avicii-True-esque song.

I d say Shaboozey and am hoping it wont be Michael Marcagi.

Most of the artists mentioned on this list have released some great music! It’s strange the way the record industry works these days with streaming. In the past (such as the 90s and 00s) after one big hit, most artists’ follow-up songs also charted. Most dance artists for example are remembered for their debut single, but then had at least a couple of follow-ups that made the top 40. These days it’s becoming increasingly difficult to follow up a debut hit.

I’m enjoying Casso’s follow up hit at the moment - but also have several other artists on my playlist who only only had one top 40 hit: Cat Burns, Kenya Grace, Shaboozey, Glass Animals, Michael Marcagi, Mark Ambor (the list goes on) plus many other equally good artists who are yet to have a top 40 hit because they just did not have that one viral hit!

I think streaming is a killer (some tighter rules are needed), but factor in other reasons such as radio stations playing just their one song (Heart ignoring Benson Boone and Teddy Swims stronger follow-ups), and of course the evil app of Tiktok. It just seems only a select fewwxan succeed.

I don't think Glass Animals are like the others tbf, they have 11 other songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify. It's the same for a lot of indie artists really that have had big songs grow over time - it's like saying Tame Impala has no hits and Catfish and the Bottlemen's only one is Longshot!

Food for thought… I feel you’re right - they don’t fit on the list (other than being on my playlist and not having many top 40 hits). The difference is partly that they are an indie artist, but I think another difference is that they have broken much more widely globally - particularly in the US. Cat Burns for example is a newer artist than Glass Animals, hasn’t broken in the US, has had no other UK top 40 hits - but has two solo tracks with over 40 million streams.

Perhaps the biggest difference is that they are an established act who released their debut album over 10 years ago. Shaboozey has been going almost as long but has only just had his UK breakthrough. I think the other artists are only just on their debut albums or haven’t even released an album yet.

But there are increasing numbers of artists now getting high peaking albums without a hit single. And they are not only indie artists. Maisie Peters has had a number 1 and a number 2 album. But of her 7 singles to make the top 100, the highest peak was her Amazon Original, Together This Christmas - 47.

Plenty to name, many already mentioned, here's a few others from 2024 with just one hit to their name so far;

Alex Warren

Badger

Djo

Flo Milli

Good Neighbours

JADE

Jungle

Lay Bankz

Nemo

Paul Russell

Songer

The Blessed Madonna

The Last Dinner Party

I suspect a few in this list will return with another Top 40 hit in time, but certainly not all of them.

I guess Jungle are another one where it kinda feels strange to call them one-hit wonders, although they technically are going by Top 40s.

The Blessed Madonna has had two Top 40s for what it's worth: 'Happier' and 'Marea (we've lost dancing)' from 2021.
