The night changed her life—not just because the music was great, but because, as she put it more than 20 years later while accepting Bowie’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, “it was great theater. Here was this beautiful, androgynous man, just being so…perverse.” More than a musician, Madonna—like Bowie then and Kanye West now—is a supreme cultural curator. She's an artist capable of combining styles and images in ways that are both novel and groundbreaking, who changes with such frequency and confidence that change has become her defining characteristic. Born in Bay City, Michigan, in 1958, she spent her childhood studying ballet, later moving to New York to try and make it as a dancer. (She was fired from a brief stint at a Times Square Dunkin’ Donuts after spraying a customer—either accidentally or on purpose, she never confirmed—with donut jelly.) After playing in a couple of New Wave bands, she went solo, exploring a simple, almost punky, almost amateurish take on dance music (“Borderline,” “Lucky Star”) that brought the grandeur of disco down to human scale. She remained more or less invincible throughout the '80s, releasing a string of albums (Like a Virgin, True Blue, and Like a Prayer) that continue to define the era. Like Prince, her music was immediate but her character was incredibly complex: She could be brassy (“Material Girl”) and sweet (“Open Your Heart”), earnest (“Papa Don’t Preach”) and playful (“Like a Virgin”), sacred and profane—a variety that widened the emotional spectrum for pretty much every female pop artist in her wake. In the ’90s, she shifted her focus more explicitly to the intersection of sex and power (Erotica, Bedtime Stories, the photo book Sex), with a sound that flirted with house, new jack swing, and late-night R&B. (Between “Vogue” and the tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, it was also a moment when she leaned into her support of the LGBTQ community—a relationship that has defined her career.) Just as quickly as she’d embraced her inner sinner, she pivoted, first with a role as former Argentinian first lady Eva Perón in the 1996 film and soundtrack Evita, then with the 1998 album Ray of Light—projects that rechristened her as a mature, soul-searching artist in a chaotic world. She kept pace through the 2000s and 2010s, exploring disco, electro, and minimalistic takes on ’80s dance music, continuing to track the sound of the times while always, somehow, remaining herself. When she was a young woman pursuing a dance career in New York, she’d been given a nickname by the famed choreographer Martha Graham: Madame X, a shape-shifting woman whose identity was, as the name suggests, a variable. About 40 years later, she embraced the moniker for 2019’s Madame X, an album influenced by the yearning fado music of her adopted home of Lisbon, Portugal. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 1984 02 Holiday -1- MILLIONAIRE 1984 14 Lucky Star -2- 1984 02 Borderline -3- 1984 03 Like A Virgin -1- MILLIONAIRE 1985 03 Material Girl -2- 1985 02 Crazy For You -OST- 1985 01 Into The Groove -3- MILLIONAIRE 1985 05 Angel -4- 1985 04 Gambler -OST- 1985 05 Dress You Up -5- 1986 02 Live To Tell -1- 1986 01 Papa Don't Preach -2- 1986 01 True Blue -3- 1986 04 Open Your Heart -4- 1987 01 La Isla Bonita -5- 1987 01 Who's That Girl -OST/1- 1987 04 Causing A Commotion -OST/2- 1987 09 The Look Of Love -OST/3- 1989 01 Like A Prayer -1- MILLIONAIRE 1989 99 Into The Groove / Who's That Girl? 1989 05 Express Yourself -2- 1989 03 Cherish -3- 1989 05 Dear Jessie -4- 1990 01 Vogue -1- 1990 02 Hanky Panky -2- 1990 02 Justify My Love -1- 1991 03 Rescue Me -2- 1992 03 This Used To Be My Playground -OST- 1992 03 Erotica -1- 1992 06 Deeper And Deeper -2- 1993 10 Bad Girl -3- 1993 06 Fever -4- 1993 07 Rain -5- 1994 07 I'll Remember -OST- 1994 05 Secret -1- 1994 16 Take A Bow -2- 1995 04 Bedtime Story -3- 1995 08 Human Nature -4- 1995 05 You'll See -1- 1996 16 Oh Father -2- 1996 11 One More Chance -3- 1996 10 You Must Love Me -OST/1- 1996 03 Don't Cry For Me Argentina -OST/2- 1997 07 Another Suitcase In Another Hall -OST/3- 1998 01 Frozen -1- 1998 02 Ray Of Light -2- 1998 10 Drowned World (Substitute For Love) -3- 1998 06 The Power Of Goodbye -4- 1999 07 Nothing Really Matters -5- 1999 02 Beautiful Stranger -OST- 2000 01 American Pie -OST- 2000 01 Music -1- 2000 04 Don't Tell Me -2- 2001 07 What It Feels Like For A Girl -3- 2002 03 Die Another Day -OST- 2003 02 American Life -1- 2003 02 Hollywood -2- 2003 02 Me Against The Music (Britney Spears feat. Yes, the music is anthemic enough to fill arenas—“Clocks,” “Speed of Sound,” “Paradise,” “A Sky Full of Stars”—but detailed and atmospheric, too, stretching the conventions of modern rock without ever losing the emotional thread. Formed in London in the late ’90s, the band debuted with 2000’s Parachutes. Seasons have changed—the arty experiments of 2008’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the electro rush of 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, the eclecticism of 2019’s Everyday Life—but the core of its sound has been consistent: Propulsive, uplifting, grand but vulnerable. In step with the earnest spirit of its music, the band has also poured considerable resources into philanthropy: performing at Live 8, sponsoring Ocean Cleanup efforts, and notably investing in renewable energy to power 2021's Music of the Spheres World Tour. Whether in crowded bars, lonely bedrooms, closing out the London 2012 Summer Olympics, or headlining the Super Bowl 50 four years later, the effect is more or less the same: At the end of the day, Coldplay comes for the heart. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 1999 92 Brothers & Sisters -NAS- 2000 35 Shiver -1- 2000 04 Yellow -2- MILLIONAIRE 2000 10 Trouble -3- 2002 02 In My Place -1- 2002 10 The Scientist -2- MILLIONAIRE 2003 09 Clocks -3- MILLIONAIRE 2003 87 Remixes -EP- 2003 100 God Put A Smile On Your Face -4- 2005 02 Speed Of Sound -1- 2005 04 Fix You -2- MILLIONAIRE 2005 10 Talk -3- 2008 08 Violet Hill -1- 2008 54 Lost! -3- 2008 01 Viva La Vida -2- MILLIONAIRE 2009 28 Life In Technicolor II -4- 2010 88 A Message 2010 13 Christmas Lights -NAS- MILLIONAIRE 2011 06 Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall -1- 2011 01 Paradise -2- MILLION SELLER 2011 04 Princess Of China (Coldplay & Rihanna) -4- MILLIONAIRE 2011 22 Charlie Brown -3- 2013 12 Atlas -OST- 2014 10 Magic -1- 2014 48 Midnight -IG- 2014 09 A Sky Full Of Stars -2- MILLIONAIRE 2014 70 Another's Arms -AT- 2014 95 Miracles -OST- 2015 07 Adventure Of A Lifetime -1- MILLIONAIRE 2015 52 Everglow -4- 2016 06 Hymn For The Weekend -2- MILLIONAIRE 2016 71 Up&Up -3- 2017 02 Something Just Like This (The Chainsmokers & Coldplay) -1- MILLIONAIRE 2017 70 Hypnotised -PS- 2017 54 Miracles (Someone Special) (Coldplay & Big Sean) -2- 2019 27 Orphans -1- 2019 93 Champion Of The World -AT- 2019 94 Church -AT- 2021 12 Higher Power -1- 2021 03 My Universe (Coldplay & BTS) -2- 2021 24 Let Somebody Go (Coldplay & Selena Gomez) -3- 2024 16 feelslikeimfallinginlove -1- 2024 44 WE PRAY (Coldplay, Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna & TINI) -2- 2 x #1 | 9 x Top 5 | 19 x Top 10 | 23 x Top 20 | 28 x Top 40 | 43 x Top 100 Social Media Coldplay
September 6, 20242 yr 32 | 26 | 19th week Taylor Swift I Can Do It With A Broken Heart 2nd single from THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT Released: 19th April 2024 Label: Taylor Swift Chart Statistics NE (09/05/2024) | 8-12-13-16-18-20-19-18-20-21-27-26-22-27-27-25-21-26-32 Sales: 400k+ Certification: Gold Status: Standard Chart Ratio 38 Sales 07 Audio Streaming 12 Video Streaming Video Sl6en1NPTYM Biography The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. She followed those up in 2022 with Midnights, which she wrote and produced with Jack Antonoff, and described as "the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life." In 2023, Swift undertook one of the most ambitious road shows of all time: the multi-year Eras Tour, which saw her presenting new and classic material across more than 100 locales worldwide. It was just one of many reasons she was named Apple Music's Artist of the Year for 2023. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2009 02 Love Story -1- MILLIONAIRE 2009 60 White Horse -AT- 2009 51 Teardrops On My Guitar -2- 2009 100 Crazier -OST- 2009 30 You Belong With Me -3- 2010 57 Today Was A Fairytale -OST- 2010 30 Mine -1- 2012 67 Safe & Sound (feat.
