September 25, 2024Sep 25 Your best will always be Ghosts. I listen to that all the time!oh PERIOD that one slayed too
September 25, 2024Sep 25 JaySic, TBR, Jawny Sparklez - Top Of The World RXmyWuCV5h4 I sent this simply because I didn't have any idea how BJSC would work. I was first informed that I've become a member for 3 months so I could participate. I haven't prepared anything, so I chose something that was a hit on my charts that time. Nonetheless, I've been a huge fan of big room house music since 2017 and I was curious how newschool big room house would perform here. I also loved Sparklez's vocals. I discovered him when he did a cover of Wellerman.
September 26, 2024Sep 26 I debuted in BJSC 64, just over 10 years ago. My first entry was Kat Dahlia - Crazy: 1jKBk-8T3Yk I did not follow BJSC at all prior to joining so I was not familiar with what songs did well or what kind of entries I wanted to send. This was a very recent discovery for me at the time, and very much a "this will do" situation. Due to co-hosting snafus BJSC 64 was a One Big Final format so my entry qualified just as a fluke, it wouldn't have qualified otherwise but hey I'll take it! Unfortunately it ranks very low on my list of favorite entries but I don't regret sending it; my next several entries DNQd so this was clearly the best I had to offer at the time
September 26, 2024Sep 26 Our début came in April 2014 with the 63rd edition of BJSC ~ I knew of the contest for some time before this (and discovered many great tracks sent to it by sneakily spectating in the shadows) but was reluctant to join as I wrongly thought it was very cliquey and mostly music that wasn't really to my tastes but I got over my snobbery and decided to participate and have become a lot more open to other genres and songs that I may not have enjoyed as much had I not. I've not always had the time to participate and in the early days was very much part of (or at the very least a hanger-on to) a niche breakaway contingent of hipster smoothies battling to qualify, although there was that brief moment I led one of the leaderboards when I sent Fuck Buttons' “Surf Solar” to BJSC68. *.* For our début we sent French electronic/synthpop producer Juan de Guillebon (aka DyE) and the beautifully melancholic “Fantasy”, for which the iconic video (NSFW) which represents the loss of childhood innocence was designed and produced by animation wunderkind Jérémie Périn. It DNQ'd.. I like to think all great nations DNQ with their first entry - at least that's the story I keep deluding myself with. As for how I look back on it now, I still am happy that it was my first entrant. I feel like it captures the spirit in which I take part, which is to send tracks that mean something to me and ones that in particular I feel deserve a wider audience. I think after the DNQ I did adapt my strat for a while by trying to appeal to a wider audience but that ultimately left me a bit empty and so I just send stuff with much less care as to how well it will do.
September 26, 2024Sep 26 Can't quite believe it's been just over 9 years since I joined the contest really (BJSC 73). My debut entry was Got It by Marian Hill, who at the time were just emerging and building popularity in the US. The track came from the same Sway EP that their huge track One Time was lifted from but Got It has also stood the test of time and is now in their Top 5 most streamed tracks on Spotify. Their launch into the world of music was a blend of electronic production and a saxophone, what's not to love about that? It took 26 contests for us to improve on our debut entry's position of 14th in the final so I do hold it in high regard as for over a quarter of our initial tenure it was our best performing song. Becuase of that I think it's still one of our strongest entries. I believe this was also entered to PJSC at a similar time (our contest was first iirc) and came 2nd there (someone can correct me I'm sure) so it has wide appeal! 8wjbY0Tyfr4 Edited September 26, 2024Sep 26 by lewistgreen
September 26, 2024Sep 26 DXFClodyrP4 I never wanted to be special, I just wanted someone that was special to be mine BJSC34 - 5th As was often the case when I first joined, I entered a FLJ re-edit of this dreamy synth pop track and it did well for me which I was very chuffed with. I still really like it now and think it probably should have won :kink: - not that I can remember what did win to be fair, but I'm sure this was better haha. I suspect this would still be in my top 10 of my own entries if I were to compile said list.
