This is the Top 100 chart-performing artists from the Top 20 Singles charts, November 1952 to September 2024 inclusive, in the UK and the USA, combined.

I have used the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the USA, mirroring the UK charts in time.

There have been 4,754 different acts to have entered the UK Top 20; in the USA, they have had 3,117 different artists over the same period.

1,564 of those acts have made the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Top 5 UK acts, in order of success in the UK, NOT to have registered a USA Top 20 hit single are: 1. Cliff Richard and the Shadows (Cliff made it as a solo artist); 2. Shadows; 3. Little Mix; 4. Robbie Williams; 5. Shakin' Stevens

The Top 5 USA acts who have similarly failed in the UK are: Morgan Wallen (as a solo artist); 2. John Cougar (Mellencamp); 3. T.I.; 4. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band; 5. Linda Ronstadt

The Top 5 acts to have made both charts for at least 1 week, least successfully, in order of least success, are: 1. Hipsway; 2= Pigmeat Markham and Ferko String Band; 4. Blind Melon; 5. Paul Russell

In the list below, Elvis is the unsurprising winner, he has a huge lead over Madonna; there is a fair gap between Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson as well.

Enjoy. If you are curious about other artists, let me know.

Wow really interesting list. Thanks for posting. :) Although I'm sure T.I. has many top 20 hits in the UK? Live Your Life, Dead And Gone, Blurred Lines, Change Your Life and My Love off the top of my head. Probably missed some.
How has the chart been compiled? Inverse points by position each week?

How has the chart been compiled? Inverse points by position each week?

Yes, but weighted by the number of weeks spent in higher positions.

If this chart were based solely on sales would there be much difference in the Top 5 positions? Or is that just too difficult/impossible to research?

Very likely that streams would greatly outnumber physical sales.

I have tried to get reliable data but I failed. If I knew where it was available, I would happily do the research, it would be fascinating to compare the results to the chart based statistics.

And, yes, how to compare downloads to actual sales? Nurse...
