Posted November 8, 2024Nov 8 dis·co /ˈdiskō/ a style of pop music intended mainly for dancing to, typically soul-influenced and melodic with a regular bass beat, popular particularly in the late 1970s. "the music hops from one genre to another – electropop and post-punk, but also disco, hip-hop, and soul" Welcome everyone to the 29th mix of Club Bizarre! The powers that be have enlisted me to host and your favorite DDR player is taking you on a journey through... disco! Originating in the late 1960s to early 1970s, this genre has fought against the stigmatization of dance and flourished into a cultural phenomenon, birthing many legends in the music industry, and its influence can still be found in music today. This is a genre of music that has splintered off into so many different directions, and inspiration can be taken from anywhere. First, a few ground rules: - Make sure that your entry falls under the Dance genre - essentially something that would be appropriate to post in this area of the forum. Make sure you keep the boogie and keep it to a mostly disco influence. - Please don't send any huge commercial hits or well-known classics. The purpose of this contest is to expose our participants to songs that are firstly enjoyable and secondly new to their ears. You may send lesser known songs by bigger artists, but don't get too crazy. - Please avoid anything that has already been sent to previous editions of Club Bizarre or other song contests in this forum (BJSC, Unknown Pleasures, etc.) - If any of these rules aren't adhered to then the Dance forum moderators (Awardinary and Dan) may veto your entry, in which case you will have to submit a new song. - This is an anonymous contest so please do not reveal what you have sent - the unmasking occurs during the results show. ENTER USING THIS GOOGLE FORM Deadline is set for: 14 November 2024, 23:59 BST Oh... and one last thing: have fun. Boogie and soul is a sense of being. So just enjoy yourself! - Entrants list:
November 8, 2024Nov 8 Thanks Cody! Great to finally be able to experiment with this important dance sub-genre.
November 8, 2024Nov 8 I shall be debuting in this contest. :cheer: just checking, does the song have to be from the disco period or just anything disco-influenced?
November 8, 2024Nov 8 I shall be debuting in this contest. :cheer: just checking, does the song have to be from the disco period or just anything disco-influenced? Anything disco-influenced. ;)
November 8, 2024Nov 8 no idea if my entry falls under disco so please feel free to contact me :kink: Yeah, I might send something a little far off myself. :heehee: Disco influence isn't clear or obvious to me sometimes so I am (and maybe some are) in need of some pointers. Edit: I said "some" a lot. Edited November 8, 2024Nov 8 by All★bySmashMouth
November 8, 2024Nov 8 I've confirmed something that I think could definitely be seen as disco influenced, but I'm very far from being a disco expert so I'll let the mods judge this one.
November 9, 2024Nov 9 Entered the song I had ready for this theme if it ever came up. I'd been pushing for it ever since I forced the "Buzzjack decides the theme" idea on you so I'm glad it hasn't been forgotten ^_^
November 9, 2024Nov 9 Entered. I was debating whether to save this song for 170 but it fits this theme so well imo.
November 10, 2024Nov 10 I'm in murky waters with this theme, need to get my scuba diving gear to find a good entry for this one.
November 12, 2024Nov 12 Submitted a placeholder which I may not switch if nothing else tickles my fancy further.
November 13, 2024Nov 13 I'm thinking of sending something for this but wanted to check if a dance song which is a cover of a 70s disco song be acceptable? Or is that cheating? Not that I definitely want to send that one but it's one of several I have in mind.
November 13, 2024Nov 13 only way to check is to send it in and for us to listen to it if the song sounds disco-esque should be fine, if they've changed the genre completely or if it's a cover of a very well known song perhaps not
November 13, 2024Nov 13 I've reconfirmed to something very definitively disco (my original confirmation was pushing the definition).
