December 5, 2024Dec 5 There is no chance wham won't be number 1 unless Mariah drops dead Probably will be Wham but those dates are usually 600-800 range so technically Grace just getting 500k would be better so if she had some promo/remix/strictly boost that week it’d actually be really close.
December 5, 2024Dec 5 And the kobbar post of the year goes to: There is no chance wham won't be number 1 unless Mariah drops dead

December 6, 2024Dec 6 The guy who was behind the RATM campaign is starting an online campaign to get ELO's Mr Blue Sky to Xmas No.1. This has prompted me to look up his history of Christmas Number 1 chart campaigns: 2008: Ricky Astley, Never Gonna Give You Up - #73 2009: RATM - #1 2011: Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit - #11 2012: The Justice Collective, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother - #1 2013: ACDC, Highway to Hell -#4 2014: The Peace Collective, All Together Now - #70 2017: Wham, Last Christmas - #2 2020: The Kunts, Boris Johnson is a f***ing c**t - #5 2021: The Kunts, Boris Johnson is STILL a f***ing c**t - #5 2022: The Kunts, f*** the Tories - #7 2023: The Pogues - #6 Despite his past success, I really don't see this taking off at all. All of the recent hits were either: Directly related to Christmas - so they would have got tons of sales anyway. Odds are that both Wham and The Pogues would have charted in similar positions without a campaign, frankly. OR Were actively being pushed and promoted as protest songs, with multiple versions for download. I can't see ELO playing the game and having 20 different versions on Bandcamp for 59p! They will also get virtually no streaming compared to the deluge of Christmas hits in the charts.

December 6, 2024Dec 6 Anyone with a decently organised campaign could snatch the Xmas no1 with the way Xmas falls and the low sales for Gracie!
December 6, 2024Dec 6 Anyone with a decently organised campaign could snatch the Xmas no1 with the way Xmas falls and the low sales for Gracie! Gracie could get it and it’d be like the year clean bandit got it but her sales are falling off
December 6, 2024Dec 6 Are there enough people willing to download a song for Christmas number one now (sans ladbaby)? Pogues went absolutely nowhere last year so I really doubt it.
December 6, 2024Dec 6 Gracie could get it and it’d be like the year clean bandit got it but her sales are falling off She’s below 50k now so think she prob won’t?!
December 9, 2024Dec 9 I put a fiver on Tom Grennan at 14/1. I think Wham! will do it, but he's beginning to shorten across the board now - so hopefully can cash out at the right time and get a slight profit. But I think it'll be 100% Wham!
December 9, 2024Dec 9 I think Amazon would get a lot of flack if an Alexa exclusive ever does get a Christmas No.1 as it would draw notable media attention as to how the song accrued the majority of its sales and quite likely cause a backlash. Then again, Sam Ryder got extremely close last year but he also promoted the hell out of his song and sold 9,000 downloads and 2.6k CDs on Christmas week, which I'd be surprised if Tom Grennan comes anywhere near doing. The chart was also two days nearer to Christmas day itself so Alexa had more power in that respect. I think 42-47k is a reasonable estimate for Tom Grennan's Christmas week sales, depending on how much of a fight he puts up. Wham! maybe 54-60k for Christmas week, again depending how the new physicals do. Gracie should still be on 42-45k by that point too. I'd really love someone undeniably massive who couldn't possibly miss - even with the Christmas influx - to release their new single right on Christmas week, e.g. Harry Styles. But would any major star really do that in this day and age rather than just waiting to launch their new era in the new calendar year?
December 9, 2024Dec 9 If they did and suceeded it could be a new era for the Q4 charts! Love the Sam Ryder single, already a classic for me!
December 9, 2024Dec 9 YES Kelly get that too 10 with Underneath the Tree! Need Santa Can’t You Hear Me to become a top 20 next too 😂
December 9, 2024Dec 9 I put a fiver on Tom Grennan at 14/1. I took the bait too. I cashed out £5 on my Ariana/Cynthia bet and used it to bet on Tom Grennan instead at 16/1. I think it's unlikely he'll get ahead of Wham! but it was worth a fiver at those odds!
December 10, 2024Dec 10 Tom Grennan has very little chance of actually going #1 imo, but he probably will be #1 after the Sunday (and maybe Monday) updates. So just cash out the increased cash out value on that after a couple of days.
