December 1, 2024Dec 1 The NHS already do a sort of "bullying" you into signing up for DNR's. Go in for a leg op and suddenly it's "if it goes wrong is it OK if we let you die". Doctors are the same. They want to save money and beds by trying to get you to accept that it's better if you die at home or in the hopsital rather than create a lot of fuss and money. The default position should be people shouldnt even be ASKED. They should assume not unless someone specifically volunteers that wish. My attitude is "f*** yes, I want to be revived, what the f*** right do you have to try and persuade people that they should just accept death because you don't (want to) do your job". And you only have their word that they actually tried to revive a loved one anyway. This is not hyperbole. My experiences of the last 10 years do nothing to reassure me that this isn't going to lead to increased earlier deaths as it has in those countries already doing it. A small number of people really do want to die due to suffering, but let's be honest loads of people commit suicide each year, regardless, when they should be getting mental and emotional support so it's not as if that isn't an option for the majority of people already except those trapped within their own bodies. Morally it's the same thing, they are both suicide even if you try to convince yourself that it's somebody making it nice and pleasant for you. ย But I have seen plenty of lonely old people feeling like a burden to their family, and it is would be fairly easy for slimey manipulators to guilt them into going early so they dont have to pay out for care and inherit the whole house or whatever. People are always always far too optimistic when it comes to assessing human nature. It will happen. ย The problem with this sort of "I'm voting it through for you, to help you because I'm so caring" attitude is it doesn't take seriously the predictable knock-on effects. And no, I wouldnt have agreed for either of my parents to have helped me as a carer by shoving off this mortal coil earlier.
May 16May 16 Author There has been a lot of developments since the initial vote. Itโs definitely gone in the wrong direction. A lot less safeguards. A lot more flexibility. There is no way Iโd trust it at this point. Verging on societal pressured eugenics honestly. No longer a fan. You canโt have stupid people creating important laws like this. BBC NewsAssisted dying: MPs in England and Wales to debate bill a...Dozens of amendments have been added to the bill from both sides since it passed its first stage.
Friday at 13:365 days Author Well they voted for it 314 - 291 Pretty bad decision but thatโs to be expected atp
Friday at 18:225 days Really happy to see this voted for - finally a humane choice for those suffering. It will still need to go through the lords and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back to the commons. But it would be great to finally allow people the right to die without worrying about relatives etc being charged for assisting. It'll also mean people won't have to do things such as travel to Swtizerland.
Friday at 20:055 days I suspect the Lords will pass some amendments. I also think that at least some of those amendments will be sensible. Issues like this can often see Parliament working at its best as it is not a party political matter. It is a lot easier for all parliamentarians to have respect for their opponents' arguments.
Friday at 20:435 days This is one topic Iโm genuinely torn on as I donโt fully understand the repercussion and we may not understand them until real life situations occur which would be a travesty.
