December 18, 2024Dec 18 I think we have been a more harsh than normal in this contest - but this edition in particular is an incredibly broad theme so it ought to really be easy enough to find a song that hasn't been entered in a contest on the site before. (and I'm sure nobody has intentionally sent something from another contest btw)
December 19, 2024Dec 19 It’s not always about the size of the hit at the time, it’s more its success since and that song has become better known and has a lot of Spotify plays so there are reasons.
December 19, 2024Dec 19 Nice try whoever submitted Rialto  That would be me! Obviously I had no idea that it had won a previous song contest (and why wouldn't it have done, it's a brilliant song) Anyway I've reconfirmed a different song but I'm not holding out much hope of it doing well as it's nowhere near as strong as the Rialto song and I don't have time to find anything better...
December 19, 2024Dec 19 but the Paula Cole song did a 15-out, it was a mini mini hit Not really though. 15-28-24-30-32-40 Six weeks in the top 40 was very good for a No.15 hit in the late 90s. Shows how airplay was helping it to hold up. It went semi viral on TikTok last year too, Paula had a bit of a moment of people discovering it was her behind the song and loads of videos with 30k+ likes used it.
December 19, 2024Dec 19 nice too bad it didnt come back ala Unwritten really think it's one of those jewels of the 90s that not many people know about think it as also released in quite a competitive week back in 97
December 19, 2024Dec 19 I did debate whether it was just a song that I knew really well or whether more people would also know it - and I think the replies in here from the other participants so far suggest that it was the right call as even younger members are saying they knew of it. And, if someone's reading this who doesn't know it, still go listen ^_^

Celine also above her with Call The Man, and Wyclef with We Trying To Stay Alive. Agreed, it's a real gem that deserves more love.

I have a memory of watching her perform it at the World Music awards with a choir and I was 😍
December 19, 2024Dec 19 Author Reconfirmations have been sent to the mods. Hopefully voting thread will be up late tonight. Thanks everyone for your patience!!
December 19, 2024Dec 19 We're taking a look now Addy, but just to be transparent... two of the reconfirmations have spotify play counts of over 100million, which is basically 70-100 million more than even the most borderline songs in the list. Over 100 million is a really high amount for a song from 1997 to have so I suspect they will end up being vetoed. If you're one of the two people who have sent either song then could you have a think if you have something less well known to send please? Well known artists are fine if you want to go down that route, but just try to send something that isn't among their very biggest tracks... having had a quick look, if you were tied to those artists then I'm pretty certain any of the other 1997 singles from those albums would be fine as they are substantially less well known.
