Didn't deserve it imo as he didn't win anything.

 

This is always the really odd take I see. As much as the Welsh man I am wouldn’t want to see and England manager celebrated (and, also as a Welsh man, believe honours and knighthoods should even exist) but Southgate has clearly developed and England team that could get to the final in multiple international tournaments which is more than you can say for the last half dozen England managers and so is pretty significant.

 

Also why do people only see winning a trophy as measure of success.

I just think knighthoods in sport should be reserved for the truly great individuals. I think an OBE would have been sufficient for him and still rewarded his tenure.

We did better than we have for years with him, 2 Euro finals and 2 world cup semi-finals, his track record is very impressive. More importantly he promoted a really strong team with emphasis on being good role models to youths. I think he did an excellent job and am sad he is no longer the manager tbh. Well worthy of the honour, just as much as (more so than) celebs who get them for being actors / singers etc....
