Posted January 7Jan 7 Last year’s thread: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=268573 Positions are accurate thanks to the fabulous weekly subscription publication, UKChartsPlus. Sales estimates are all my own. Estimating singles sales is never entirely straightforward as the weekly chart has rules applied, but I do my best. Feel free to chip in at any point with more accurate information. I will aim to post the updated YTD Top 40 with sales each week, and some selected others.

January 7Jan 7 We’re so back! Thanks as always for doing this Julian. Look forward to following throughout the year.
January 7Jan 7 Ayy glad this is back for another year, thanks Julian! Unlike last year everything in the official top 40 has ended up here. Can already see some interesting oldies, can't wait to see how everything holds up!
January 7Jan 7 Glad this is back for another year :cheer: Double Wham! in this first top 100, and a lot of songs which didn't appear in any of last year's YTDs, not least 'That's So True' - last year there was no change at the top, kinda hope that isn't the case this year. Will be great to follow how everything will shake up as the weeks go on!
January 7Jan 7 Do we think messy/thats so true will be top 5 at the end of the year? They do have a huge advantage after all. I’m sure DWAS will be top 10 too
January 7Jan 7 Think it's waaaaay too early to make any predictions like that. I'd say give it a couple of months to get a clearer picture
January 7Jan 7 So as I was confused about at the end of last year, Move's position on the Independent Singles chart is not accurate of its actual sales. It is below Dirty Cash on the Independent chart this week but comfortably above it here. I wonder why that is. I assume its something to do with remixes, is the Camila Cabello version on a different (non-independent) record label for example?

Original is on Keinemusik and Spotify credits the remix to "Keinemusik under licence from Interscope" so I doubt labels would have anything to do with it
January 7Jan 7 Just noticed "Ransom" by Lil Tecca is number 46 on streaming and 52 on audio streaming but nowhere near this top 100. Must be a very low premium to free stream ratio for it! Edited January 7Jan 7 by gasman449

It is below Dirty Cash on the Independent chart this week but comfortably above it here. I wonder why that is. Yeah I was pretty sure the week you questioned it that its independent charts placing must be wrong as it had to have done about 14k, and now we know for sure. I don’t know why though.
January 7Jan 7 Maybe streams of the Camila Cabello remix don't count to the Independent chart? The label details say 'under exclusive license to Interscope Records' on the remix while it's just Keinemusik for the original. edit: oop I missed Maestro and gasman's posts already mentioning this somehow :P (though somehow coming to the opposite conclusion)

I think that has to be it. Seems like the only logical conclusion to me. Actually somewhat impressed that the OCC has that set up. Also relevant in the point from last month on the streaming thread regarding the re-recorded version of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and whether it was combined.
January 7Jan 7 Just fired off an email to the Charts Company's chart rules email asking for clarification on how Move ended up above Dirty Cash. Hopefully will get a reply :)
January 7Jan 7 Jimin better not fraud his way onto the YE. Here are some thoughts and stats based on carry overs etc. Songs in the Audio Streaming Chart which didn't make the top 100: #52 Lil Tecca Ransom (This actually isn't even close based on the Hip-Hop Chart) #65 Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams #85 Jordan Adetunji - KEHLANI #90 Juice WRLD - Empty Out Your Pockets #93 Arctic Monkeys - 505 #100 Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way Replaced By: #79 Chappell Roan - Red Wine Supernova (Surprised this has such a good ratio, almost seems like a mistake) #91 Toploader - Dancing in the Moonlight #97 Coldplay - A Sky Full of Stars #98 Tate McRae - It's ok I'm ok #99 The Kooks - Naïve #100 Coldplay - feelslikeimfallinginlove There are 57 songs on the list which made last year's year end list plus nine that have made a previous year end list leaving 34 new entries. The Re-Entries are: #60 Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) [#3 1987] #70 Queen - Don't Stop Me Now [#81 1979, #99 2019, #99 2022] #72 ABBA - Dancing Queen [#4 1976] #74 The Police - Every Breath You Take [#16 1983] #77 The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York [#48 1987, #73 2005, #89 2007, #86 2021, #73 2023] #84 Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith - La La La [#5 2013] #91 Toploader - Dancing in the Moonlight [#49 2001] #94 Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go [#11 1984] #97 Coldplay - A Sky Full of Stars [#40 2015] List of Songs that were on the YTD in Week 1 of 2023 and haven't left: Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer Fleetwood Mac -Dreams Tears for Fears -Everybody Wants to Rule the World Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves - I Remember Everything The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris Teddy Swims - Lose Control The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Pretty sure this hasn't left since week 1 of 2017) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor The Kooks - Naïve casso, RAYE & D-Block Europe - Prada Vance Joy - Riptide Noah Kahan - Stick Season Hozier - Take Me to Church Lord Huron - The Night We Met Coldplay - Viva la Vida Naive is the most impressive on that list imo Top 5 Songs on last year's YE not present: #14 Beyonce - TEXAS HOLD 'EM #18 Tate McRae - greedy #19 Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone - Fortnight #26 Eminem - Houdini #28 Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me
January 7Jan 7 Didn't catch Lucid Dreams being that high in the audio streaming! Can't be too far away from the list based on the hip hop charts. Will hopefully emerge (and stick around) once the Christmas stuff falls out. Would be great to see it on another YE lis, as long as its not to the detriment of a 2025 release
January 7Jan 7 Author Thanks so much for that analysis Maestro - all things I’d been thinking to look at myself but hadn’t got round to! :)
January 7Jan 7 Thanks so much for that analysis Maestro - all things I’d been thinking to look at myself but hadn’t got round to! :) No worries. It took me a very long time to find a full YE for 1979. I was pretty sure Don’t Stop Me Now would be on it from its original chart run but Wikipedia didn’t have a 1979 position for it.

I was pretty sure Don’t Stop Me Now would be on it from its original chart run but Wikipedia didn’t have a 1979 position for it. Haven forum has a full list of YTDs since 1970. I think you have to create an account and get it approved before you can view them, but it’s a good little forum (smaller than here). Thinking about it though it may well be worth getting them all added to the chart vault here.
