I transcended when this came on at the club last night. I told my friend we were leaving at half past because we were flagging. I text Rob(ot) on here saying they hadn't played it and I was gutted... as soon as I hit send the song blasted out.

 

I G A S P E D and absolutely lost my MIND to the song. The crowd were WATCHING me and I became so overwhelmed with love and passion for her as I always do.

 

It will genuinely be a moment I will remember for a long time, hearing this out for the first time in such an iconic way.

I feel like I’m not in any way exaggerating to say that Abracadabra is one of the very best songs of the 2020s so far. :cheeseblock:

 

Even though on the surface the midweek release seemed like a weird & less than ideal decision, I wouldn’t actually change that now. I think it was Haus who said, if this was destined to be a hit, then it would be a hit regardless of release day - and that’s proven itself to be right, to an extent that was above all of our wildest dreams! Plus, its #1 position on New Music Friday is going towards what is technically its second week (albeit its first full tracking week). So it got that NMF boost after a few days of it becoming established, rather than going on its first day/curiosity streams day. Maybe a stroke of genius, ultimately?

I completely agree with this. The release strategy has actually turned out to be genius. Releasing after exposure from the Grammys was a good move and we were annoyed by the Sunday aspect... but the fact it meant it got a new wave on Friday from New Music Friday reigniting the streams after it had already built a fanbase - perfect marketing. We doubted it but they proved us wrong I guess and I can admit that.

 

If it had been released on Friday it would have got the usual curiosity streams and then maybe lost in the sea of other releases.

 

So all-in-all, Gaga's team did THAT with this release. In fact, with this era as a whole so far! The variants for the album, tacking DWAS on it, the various editions of Disease, the budget for the music videos, the streaming support. The team are working harD!
