Tyler, the Creator feat. Teezo Touchdown - Darling, I UK chart run: {24}-27-54->3 Points: 04 #46. 21 Savage feat. Travis Scott & Metro Boomin - Née-Nah UK chart run: {23}-50-72->3 Points: 15 #45. Meghan Trainor & T-Pain - Been Like This UK chart run: 60-50-{40}-41-67->5 Points: 42 #37. Badger & Natasha Bedingfield - These Words UK chart run: 35-35-{22}-27-28-27-27-29-34-35-38-42-52-56-51-54-57-61-70-75R(2)->20 Points: 43 #36. Megan Thee Stallion - Hiss UK chart run: {31}-37->2 Points: 43 Bottom of the list we have the first of two entries for Tyler, the Creator this one being an album track that didn't have much legs in the chart. Somehow it managed to get past the qualifier round however only one of its fans turned out to actually vote for it when it mattered. Another rap track up next it is one of two album tracks for 21 Savage that charted, the other was a Doja Cat collab that didn't get past the first poll. Afrobeats star Tems managed another middling hit which is up next. We also have the second hit for Tommy Richman which followed up his much bigger breakthrough success. Richy Mitch had one of the year's biggest sleeper hits and longest serial ACR dodger with folk interlude 'Evergreen'. Gracie Abrams got the Taylor Swift stimulus package with 'Us' although ultimately her solo efforts proved to be bigger hits including one song to feature later in the rundown. Jennie of Blackpink featured on a reasonably big Weeknd hit although it is her smaller solo hit 'Mantra' that appears here as 'One of the Girls' missed out in the first round. Lewis Capaldi had a quiet year however managed to briefly chart an album track from his second album's re-release. Raye benefitted from having a big night at the Brit Awards to get 'Worth It' as another hit off her debut album. Meghan Trainor somehow got another hit a year after inflicting 'Mother' on us. One of the year's most divisive dance tracks coming from Badger who took advantage of Natasha Bedingfield getting a chart revival with 'Unwritten', re-working her other big hit of the day 'These Words' - with five sets of negative points it is truly the 'Whatever' of this rundown. The song has a Meg either side of it with Megan Thee Stallion also here with her diss track that was popular for all of two weeks from one of its targets Nicki Minaj giving it a fair bit of publicity by responding... with Buzzjack's Hate Chart #1 'Big Foot' :')
February 13Feb 13 Author #35. Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday Girls UK chart run: 60-{30}R(2)-32-43-54-60->6 Points: 47 #34. Eminem, Big Sean & BabyTron - Tobey UK chart run: {29}->1 Points: 48 #33. Eliza Rose & Calvin Harris - Body Moving UK chart run: 48-74-38R(5)-{34}-38-46-51-56-61->9 Points: 49 #32. Post Malone feat. Luke Combs - Guy For That UK chart run: 26-34-37-{25}-40-42-44-56-54->9 Points: 51 #31. Justin Timberlake - Selfish UK chart run: 37-{29}-39-41-39-48-50-49-70->9 Points: 52 #30. Good Neighbours - Home UK chart run: 40-34-30-{26}-30-29-26-26-28-27-27-37-35-38-40-41->16 Points: 52 #29. Noah Kahan - Forever UK chart run: {31}-40-46-54->4 Points: 54 #28. Kendrick Lamar - Meet the Grahams UK chart run: {28}-49->2 Points: 58 #27. Bring Me The Horizon - Kool-Aid UK chart run: {21}-45-68->3 Points: 58 #26. Tyler, the Creator feat. Lola Young - Like Him UK chart run: 33-45-39-35-61-58-52-35R(2)-{30}-33-34-36-41->13 Points: 60 Just ahead of Meg we have Nicki Minaj who got a few supporters with her throwback to the Pink Friday sound that broke her through in the early 2010s sampling the much better song Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Her other two minor top 40 hits didn't pass the qualifying poll. One of Eminem's handful of album tracks to chart up next this one being named after Tobey Maguire of Spiderman fame. The first of two minor hits for Calvin Harris in the year came from an unexpected collab with Eliza Rose which did belatedly give her a second chart hit although falling far short of the acclaim her #1 'BOTA' had. Post Malone went all country on us with a whole lot of collabs with names bigger in America, 'Guy For That' giving Luke Combs a second UK hit after his 'Fast Car' cover got big in 2023. Justin Timberlake put out a drab comeback single in 'Selfish' mere weeks before his tour (what tour? the world tour) got ruined by a DUI arrest. Newcomer commercial-core band Good Neighbours got a TikTok soundbite chart for a couple of months before never being heard of again with 'Home'. Noah Kahan re-released his album 'Stick Season' yet again which gave him another minor hit with the deluxe track addition 'Forever'. Kendrick Lamar had three Drake diss tracks chart in the beef of the year, the worst-performing of these being 'Meet the Grahams' which was quickly pushed aside for 'Not Like Us'. Bring Me The Horizon are continued proof that rock bands can occasionally chart although it would be good if we had some better rock bands in their place. Meanwhile we have Tyler, the Creator who helped Lola Young breakout featuring her on his most popular album track.
February 13Feb 13 Author #25. The Kid Laroi - Nights Like This UK chart run: 69-47-30-{28}-32-31-33-36-34-38-43-39-42-41-38-36-36-36-36-37-35-30-31-38-59-67-40R(3)-49-52-52-62-71->32 Points: 61 #24. Majestic, The Jammin Kid & Celine Dion - Set My Heart On Fire UK chart run: 59-62-54-50-53-50-52-40-{39}-48-52-68->12 Points: 62 #23. Fred Again.. & Anderson .Paak feat. Chika - Places To Be UK chart run: {35}-39-42-52-70-54R(3)-58->7 Points: 72 #22. J.I.D feat. 21 Savage & Baby Tate - Surround Sound UK chart run: 64-66-69-64-68-{35}R(2)-35-40-49-54-54->11 Points: 73 #21. The Weeknd & Anitta - Sao Paolo UK chart run: 22-46-70-{21}R(11)->4 Points: 75 #20. Olivia Rodrigo - So American UK chart run: {24}-49-51-63->4 Points: 79 #19. Dua Lipa - These Walls UK chart run: {40}->1 Points: 80 #18. Raye - Genesis UK chart run: {22}-38-63->3 Points: 84 #17. Alex Warren - Carry You Home UK chart run: 69-65-61-60R(2)-65-68-64-73-67-51-46-42-41-36-39-32-34-41-41-25R(13)-{23}-29-32->23 Points: 85 #16. Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding - Free UK chart run: 36-38-{35}-42-41-47-51-49-52-46-57-48->12 Points: 86 The Kid Laroi unexpectedly got his biggest hit since 2021's 'Stay' with album interlude 'Nights Like This' after it became a popular TikTok soundbite. Celine Dion's unlikely return to the chart came in the form of a dance remake of her early 00s hit 'I'm Alive', this topping off a good year for her that also saw a key performance of the Paris Olympics ceremony. Fred Again managed one further minor hit in the year following 'Leavemealone' which was taken from his 'Ten Days' album. American rapper J.I.D managed a viral hit taking off just after Christmas 2023 with one of that year's better rap offerings 'Surround Sound'. The Weeknd managed to get Brazilian funk into the chart with 'Sao Paolo' which just about re-peaked from the album release last week but not enough to disqualify it from this rundown. Olivia Rodrigo starts the top 20 with one of her deluxe edition bonus tracks 'So American' whilst Dua Lipa album track 'These Walls' managed to scrape the top 40 upon its release to follow. A loose single from Raye first teased at the Brits in 'Genesis' up next being the higher of her two in the rundown, fairly ambitious for her being a 7 minute piece although edits of the three sections were also made available. Another newcomer gaining off the folk-pop trend was Alex Warren now set to have a top 10 hit (joy...) but it was 'Carry You Home' that first broke him through. Meanwhile another collab for Calvin & Ellie in 'Free' happened sooner than expected given 'Miracle' was only the year before however it was quite the chart underperformance.
February 13Feb 13 NIGHTS LIKE THIS isn't even an interlude (it's actually one song after an interlude on the album), it's just a very short song! Deserves to be higher of course x
February 13Feb 13 Author ah fair enough that it comes after an intended album interlude in the tracklist but I do wish the song was a bit longer as it was a lot more interesting than the other hits off that album
February 14Feb 14 Author #15. Morgan Wallen - Love Somebody UK chart run: {40}-46-43-40-57-74R(7)-61->7 Points: 91 #14. Zach Bryan - Pink Skies UK chart run: 31-{25}-29-29-42-43-40-49-43-43-45-46-45-46-45-47->16 Points: 91 #13. Ariana Grande - The Boy Is Mine UK chart run: 61-64-{39}-54-67-53R(2)->6 Points: 91 #12. Gracie Abrams - Close To You UK chart run: 35-43-49-56-75-66R(4)-69-73-68-53-54-54-47-53-50-46-49-56-41-{31}-37-52-37R(5)-43-49-49-60-61->28 Points: 93 #11. Artemas - If U Think I'm Pretty UK chart run: 71-59-62-52-{39}-50-52-57->8 Points: 95 Country music continues to be taking off somewhat in the UK and with Buzzjack with America's favourite Morgan Wallen having had a #1 debut there with 'Love Somebody' whilst entering at the opposite end of our top 40. Sharing his points total we have Zach Bryan who wasted no time in getting out another album this year which was led by 'Pink Skies' becoming his 2nd top 40 hit. A post-album release from Ariana Grande saw her Brandy & Monica inspired (but not a cover version) 'The Boy Is Mine' scrape the top 40 following a remix featuring the aforementioned. One of the big rising pop stars of the year was Gracie Abrams who first broke into the top 40 with 'Close To You', further assisted along its run by follow-up releases becoming bigger hits although this song was generally preferred by the Buzzjack audience. Meanwhile Artemas had a minor hit in 'If U Think I'm Pretty' which was eventually boosted into the top 40 by its much bigger follow-up hit giving it some further attention.
February 14Feb 14 Author #10. Quavo & Lana Del Rey - Tough UK chart run: {32}-40-49-69->4 Points: 98 #09. Twenty One Pilots - Overcompensate UK chart run: {34}->1 Points: 101 #08. Joost - Europapa UK chart run: {37}-60->2 Points: 115 #07. Becky Hill & Sonny Fodera - Never Be Alone UK chart run: 34-41-42-45-45-35-{23}-32-32-33-37-44-57->13 Points: 115 #06. Rudimental & Skepsis feat. Charlotte Plank & Riko Dan - Green & Gold UK chart run: 69-54-43-30-{29}-32-30-32-33-33-30-29-29-34->14 Points: 115 Commencing the top 10 we have the unlikely collab between Quavo & Lana Del Rey, the latter's presence which most likely was responsible for the song actually charting as Quavo had been absent from the top 40 for 4 years. Twenty One Pilots saw an unexpected return to the top 40 with their comeback release proving they have still retained quite a fanbase from when they broke out in 2016, however the song exited just as quickly as it arrived. One of 3 songs from Eurovision to chart this year came from Dutch rapper Joost who was barred from performing in the final due to a backstage incident however the song managed enough virality from the controversy to appear in the chart anyway. Becky Hill had one of her biggest hits yet with 'Disconnect' in 2023, she eventually followed that up with a more mid-tempo release with production from Sonny Fodera which did just about as well as expected. We do get some DnB here though from Rudimental who couldn't get quite as big of a comeback streak as Chase & Status but had a decent running hit with 'Green & Gold'. Which leaves the #1 contenders being Baby Lasagna, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Charli XCX and Charli XCX...
February 14Feb 14 BRAT absolutely doing bits in this year's side contests! Von Dutch is by a mile the best song though so hope that wins.
February 14Feb 14 Europapa was the highlight of the Eurovision semi final; it getting DQed was a nail in a pretty dismal year for Eurovision overall
February 14Feb 14 It's also weird how Eurovision songs have historically struggled to chart here yet this decade has seen 2 of them hit the top 40 which weren't even performed in the final for totally different reasons.
February 15Feb 15 Author #05. Charli XCX feat. Troye Sivan - Talk Talk UK chart run: {47}-53-64->3 // {24}-43-47-51->4 Points: 147 In at #5 we have the first of three Charli XCX songs which all place in the top region naturally as it was such a big year for her. 'Talk Talk' was originally a minor hit as an album track but eventually placed in the top 40 following a remix with one of her besties Troye Sivan along with some uncredited backing vocals from Dua Lipa. It was produced by A. G Cook and Hudson Mohawke who she gave shoutouts to in her other album track 'Club Classics' and was inspired by her first attempt to rizz up fellow producer George Daniel who she is now engaged to. #04. Charli XCX feat. Lorde - Girl, So Confusing UK chart run: {28}-41-51-61-63->5 Points: 177 Here she is again! 'Girl, So Confusing' was originally buried in the middle of the album tracklist so didn't get any chart attention however this quickly changed as Lorde who the song was written about responded to the track... on its own remix. Thankfully any beef they may have had seemed to get quickly settled and we ended up getting this belated collab with the two who first broke out around the same time just over a decade ago. #03. Chappell Roan - Red Wine Supernova UK chart run: 68-51-46-40-40-41-48-39-38-32-{31}-31-32-36-34->15 Points: 198 Hopefully I don't get egg on my face twice and its current resurgence is limited to the 21-30 area... It's not quite another Chappell and Charli top 2 however 'Red Wine Supernova' has done rather well for itself still. It broke out alongside 'Hot To Go!' once 'Good Luck Babe!' started properly taking off and the general public realised she had an album out already. It was inspired by the Oasis song 'Champagne Supernova' which she referred to this as the 'gay girl version' of.
February 15Feb 15 Blimey some big jumps in points there! Backing "meow cat please meow back" for the win, but can't begrudge 'Von dutch' if it's that.
February 15Feb 15 Author #02. Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim UK chart run: {36}->1 Points: 211 #01. Charli XCX - Von Dutch UK chart run: {26}-39-46-27-39-45-55-72->8 Points: 226 cwZ1L_0QLjw Placing in 2nd we have Croatia's Baby Lasagna who was the voting public's choice of Eurovision winner, however he was denied the trophy by the addition of the jury vote. It was clearly also the Buzzjack favourite of this year's show. The song was inspired by young Croatians migrating out of the country in search for better opportunities although the song's title itself is just nonsense lyrics to assist the hook. With stylistic influence from rock and techno it had a similar appeal to the previous year's fan favourite 'Cha Cha Cha' which also clearly helped it here. I am certainly pleased to see the song make it this high in the rundown here! However in the year of the Brat it was only ever going to be Charli XCX who takes the double of non-top 10 and non-top 20 hits of the year. 'Von Dutch' was also voted in the dance forum as the year's best dance hit, and perhaps more importantly won the Grammy for best dance hit. It led the era with a lot of bratitude being a loud electro-house banger with its production done by Finn Keane (fka Easyfun), being named after the American clothing company. The song is also a diss track but Charli has not revealed who it is about. Certainly another deserved victory for her anyway and perhaps she'll take a short break in 2025 to allow someone else to win all these contests!!
