I'm listening about 20 mins behind (til they play some songs I want to skip!)

Enjoyed the Sonny Fodera track on first listen, and delighted that Sleep Token a) stayed in the top 40 and b) got played

Biography

Leon Thomas makes narcotizing progressive R&B as a solo artist, and is an all-around collaborator with a Grammy to show for it. The soulful singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist got his start as a young actor on Broadway and in Hollywood. His role on Nickelodeon's Victorious gave rise to his first commercial recordings and songwriting credits on the chart-topping album debut by co-star Ariana Grande. Three mixtapes and an EP from 2012 through 2018 established Thomas as a solo artist as he clocked studio time with the likes of Toni Braxton and Babyface, Kehlani, and Post Malone. He earned a Grammy nomination as co-writer of Rick Ross' "Gold Roses," and subsequently won the Best R&B Song award for SZA's number two pop hit "Snooze," by the time he delivered Electric Dusk (2023) and the charting MUTT (2024). - Apple Music

Bit of a dead week then just as it looked like 2025 was finally getting going properly.

Hopefully we’ll get our first 60k plus #1 at least (albeit I’m not a big fan of the song).

Meh... at least Chris Brown won't be credited :D

Biography

Playboi Carti is one of those rappers who represent a creative line in the sand: either you’re with it or you ain’t. Punky, exhilarating and daringly simple, Carti’s music pushes the bright minimalism of 2010s trap to almost abstract extremes, combining twinkly synths with noisy bass and a flow that sounds like one long ad-lib, or—yeah, let’s get it out there—baby talk. The gambit is clear: like Cam’ron’s embrace of the colour pink or Young Thug’s trailblazing sing-song, Carti’s babble is a middle finger to preconceived notions of what it means to be a rapper, and to rap’s general tendency toward masculine tough talk—or, as a line on 2018’s “R.I.P.” went, “f*** that mumblin’ shit, f*** that mumblin’ shit/Bought a crib for my momma off that mumblin’ shit.” Forget being a voice of authority—there are times it doesn’t even sound like Carti is saying words. Born Jordan Carter in 1996, Carti got his start in the Atlanta underground, connecting with A$AP Rocky at a festival in 2015—a relationship that vaulted him toward the mainstream and also put him at the emerging junction between streetwear and high fashion. (He may be one of the few people to have eaten nuggets from McDonald’s while being outfitted for a Louis Vuitton runway show.) If 2017’s Playboi Carti (which included the Lil Uzi Vert collaboration “Wokeuplikethis*” and the ubiquitous “Magnolia”) set the bar, 2018’s Die Lit ripped it out and knocked a wall down with it. Carti continued tearing down boundaries with Whole Lotta Red, a dystopian LP that pushed the limits of his vocal dexterity. A barrage of frenzied murmurs and pixelated soundscapes, the LP only reaffirmed Carti’s status as one of the most innovative stylists of his era. - Apple Music

But why did he have to do a remix with Chris brown?

To be popular.

I caught up on last week's new entries last weekend and this was definitely the best of the Carti tracks, mostly because of The Weeknd but Carti himself doesn't sound as bad on this either.

(the less said about EVIL J0RDAN, the better)

Unless it sticks around and gets a chart play in future weeks, 'EVIL J0RDAN' will be one of the highest charting songs of recent years not to have one (not counting whatever snippet was played in last week's Top 10 run down)

I like The Weeknd parts in this but P Carti sounds awful

Biography

Benson Boone (born in 2002 in Monroe, WA) bet on himself and hit big in the early 2020s. After leaving Brigham Young University to pursue his music career, the singer-songwriter tried out for American Idol, but he left the competition after making it past the talent show’s auditions. Trading the small screen of TV for the hand-sized screens of social media, he began posting videos online, and Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds took notice, signing Boone to his label Night Street Records. Boone’s early singles were emotion-packed piano ballads—the sweeping debut single “GHOST TOWN,” the swirling 2022 cut “In The Stars”—but plugging in proved to be a winning strategy. His modern power ballad “Beautiful Things,” released in early 2024, was an online sensation before it became a global megahit, reaching the U.S. Top 10 and readying the world for Boone’s debut full-length, Fireworks & Rollerblades, which came out that spring. - Apple Music
