Looking at p43 of MW this week Lynyrd Skynyrd is classed as a re-entry (with out a number for most weeks on chart) rather than a New Entry re-issue. why is this. Shouldnt it be classed as new if its from a differnt place than the original entry which was listed the Freebird Ep in Dec 1979 and Jun 1982 and a double A-side in 1976 with Double Trouble as the AA-side. Double Trouble is not listed this time.

Why arent old album tracks classed as New Entry re-issues rather than re-enters in the new chart? Esp. when those tracks were out in the 70s and its a different format/cat no now.

Maybe they didn't have an idea how to class it.
There are some errors on that chart note Ordinary Boys it was #49 last week, and they classed it as a new entry

Good question.

I'd had thought is would be a new-entry.

Is this catolgue number a new one -> CATCO88657

What will happened with Billie Piper this week? A new-entry or re-entry?

I think it be a new entry to be honest its not as if it has a catalogue No. but knowing MW it be classified as a re-entry.

that number isn't a catalog number in the conventional sense. It's a CatCo ISRC code number, which all digital tracks that are chart eligible have to have. Even if there is a physical product, a digital track has to be allocated a unique digital code number (the ISRC code) and all code numbers are held on a central database (see www.catco.com) which is linked to the OCC. Every version of a download track (remixes, live versions etc) has its own CatCo number.

In case you wonder what ISRC is:

What is the ISRC?

The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the international identification system for sound recordings and music videorecordings. Each ISRC is a unique and permanent identifier for a specific recording which can be permanently encoded into a product as its digital fingerprint. Encoded ISRC provide the means to automatically identify recordings for royalty payments.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) recommends that all music producers use ISRC.

So what about Billie, Robbie? Will 'Honey To The Bee' be a new-entry or re-entry?
Surely Bille will be a re-entry, as it hasn't been re-issued on physical?

Surely Bille will be a re-entry, as it hasn't been re-issued on physical?

Well that's what I'm guessing, because there's no re-issue the download uses the old catalogue number and is therefore a re-entry. But I could be wrong

That's my thinking too, surely it's the same principle as Chasing cars re-entering last week? (although granted Billie has had a longer absence from the chart..)

I'm taking this as an example... fortnite ago Gary Jules - Mad World entered the singles chart in the MW magazine, it has a Re-entry in brackets.

So in theory, Billie is a re-entry.

It'd be fun if Al Martino's "Here In My Heart" re-entered; that's been absent from the chart for some 2,800 weeks...

Now that it has changed from a "singles" to a "tracks" chart, the re-appearance of any track that had previously charted should OF COURSE be classed as a re-entry.

As the chart no longer requires a physical single to be issued, it no longer matters that the "new" sales of an "old" hit are no longer being counted under the old physical catalogue number. So where previously, when the chart was based only/predominantly and therefore referenced the physical format cat nums, this time around all that matters is the title itself. So naturally, this means any re-curring hit should be billed as a re-entry.

well in that case it might be a straight re-entry as its using the same cat no.

Lynyrd Skynyrd on the other hand was an double a and ep release the first time. not just one track

I'll download a copy if you will. I actually quite like the song! "Herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrree in my Hearrrrrrrrrrrrrt!"

i was wondering if label has anything to do with it. if its from a virgin issued best of album it will be classed as new, but from the innoceent single - re-issue

I think if a song has been in the chart before and comes in again, like Sweet Home Alabama it should be classed as a re-entry as should Jackson 5 I Want You Back, it's been in the chart before so the song is not new, it's an old song back in the chart hence a re-entry

SIMPLE - they have RE-ENTERED the chart.

Most countries chart count them as re-entries regardless of Cat Nos. etc.
