Robbie Williams review: Suprise Garron Noone duet in Croke Park delights fans

It’s a rare gift to make a 90,000 capacity venue feel like an intimate gig but that’s just another part of Williams’ skill as an entertainer.

If Robbie Williams had brought Oasis on stage as a surprise guest during his gig in Dublin, it’s hard to imagine they would have meet cheers as loud as those that greeted TikTok star and singer Garron Noone.

Before the concert, Williams shared a video on social media of him with Noone performing in 37 Dawson Street on Friday night, with Williams joining in for Joe Dolan’s You’re Such A Good Looking Woman

He mentioned during his night date in Croke Park that he made a few friends in Ireland and asked the crowd to welcome Noone to the stage.

The crowd went wild as the pair sang Country Roads together in Croker with the Fiddling Farrells accompanying them.

“Look after this man,” Williams said at the end of their duet. “He’s f***ing delicious.”

It was the cherry on top of a night of pure entertainment.

“My dream is to be the best entertainer on the planet,” Williams declared in the packed stadium, and there is no doubt after an electric night that his latest tour is the ultimate love letter to entertainment.

The ‘bad boy’ of boy bands was in Dublin with his Britpop tour on Saturday night and despite his swagger and bravado on stage it was an evening of genuine charm and joy.

Some of his fans online — and Williams himself — describe him as the ‘nicest narcissist’ and that seems to be the best way to sum up his cheeky confidence on stage as well as his sincere love for the audience.

“Good evening Dublin, have you missed me? Of course you have. Look at me, Robbie Williams, back in Croke Park,” he declared.

Indie pop band Lottery Winners and One Day Like This singers Elbow opened the gig, ensuring an enthusiastic welcome for Williams, 51, who arrived on stage at 8.30pm with both a burst of energy and an opening sequence that reflected on the impact of social media and AI on the entertainment industry, complete with mock versions of stars like Elvis and Bowie singing the star’s praises.

“Let me reintroduce myself. I’m Robbie f***ing Williams. This is my band. This is my arse. Croke Park, are you ready?” he asked, as he launched into Let Me Entertain You.  He was effervescent all night, fuzzing with enthusiasm and shimmering not least thanks to his sequinned outfits and full length faux fur coats.

He leaned into his maturity, with nods to his previous struggles as an up-and-coming pop star and his mental health as well as his life now as a man in his early fifties.

He shared he will be home with his wife and children on Sunday after many weeks apart during his tour but Williams rose to fame in the 1990s as a member of Take That, the biggest boy band of its time.

His departure from the group in 1995 led to a hotline being set up to comfort distraught fans but his subsequent solo career was stratospheric, producing hits like Millennium and Angels (which was co-written by Dublin-born songwriter Ray Heffernan) — and those tracks were received with an almost teenage frenzy in Dublin on Saturday night.

“I’m not going to lie. Dublin, you’re the f***ing best in the world,” he praised, during one of his many chats with the audience.

It’s a rare gift to make a 90,000 capacity venue feel like an intimate gig but that’s just another part of Williams’ skill as an entertainer.

We’ll let him entertain us again — especially when he brings some familiar faces along for the journey.

Nice to see lots of youngsters at the barrier there. We noticed how many men there were in the audience last Saturday - way more than 20 years ago

I am positive surprised how full the stadiums have been until now. Even Paris is sold out and France has never been his core audience

Robbie Williams and Garron Noone Take Me Home Country Roads live In Croke Park 2025

Video thanks to https://www.youtube.com/@Jacobdelany9891

For anyone who is interested in who Garron is see link below. Really kind of Robbie to reach out to Garron who has been off social media for some time so really pleased to see him back on stage. Hopefully it will give him the confidence ( as Robbie calls it " bravery " ) to get back out there & live life to the full.

Robbie was in the Whiskey bar 37 Dawson Street on Friday night which is just around the corner from The Westbury hotel so I'm guessing maybe Robbie stayed there.

Robbie Williams has surprised fans at his sold out Croke Park show with a duet featuring social media sensation Garron Noone.

The former Take That star took to the stage in Croke Park on Saturday night to perform his hits in front of 80,000 people, delighting fans as he opened up the show with his banger Entertain You.

But it was a surprise duet with TikTok star Garron Noone that had fans at GAA HQ erupting into cheers. The Rock DJ hitmaker took the Mayo social media personality and musician on stage to perform a rendition of Country Roads, to rapturous applause.

The 51-year-old star had performed alongside Garron and some other Irish musicians in 37 Dawson Street in the city centre on Friday night ahead of the Croke Park show.

Those drinking in the bar were shocked to see him perform alongside social media star Garron Noone and some other Irish musicians in the late bar.

Robbie took to Instagram this afternoon to share a snippet of their night out and said: "SEE YOU TONIGHT CROKE PARK."

So The Times give CP ***** & then they write this. I'm guessing today is April 1st 🙄

Looks like a brilliant night. 🤩

Not everyone has to like RW, but you can never accuse him of not having enough hits for two hours. That's ludicrous. 🤐

Well you just have to love this response from r00sj3 ❤️

Roos on X: "@IrishTimes Dear Ruby, @robbiewilliams already had hits before you were even born. And the amount of hits alone before you were able to write would be more than enough for a 2 hour show. Do some research next time...." / X

Ah ! , now it makes sense. The gig on Friday night @ 37 Dawson Street was by invitation only. I wondered why it did not seem like your normal Irish Pub 😂

Live Report: Robbie Williams crowns himself "king of entertainment" at relentlessly thrilling Croke Park show

Chloe Craft

Legendary English pop singer Robbie Williams treated Croke Park to a unrelentingly exhilarating show without a moment of lull on Saturday night, bursting with cheeky banter, impressive choreography, iconic discography and plenty of surprises sprinkled throughout.

In 1990, a 16-year-old Robbie Williams became the youngest member of English pop band Take That. In 1996, Williams debuted his solo career with top-five charting singles. In 1997, he released 'Angels' which went down in history as one of the greatest British songs of the century. In 2002, he made the biggest music deal in UK history by signing a £80 million (€92 million) contract with EMI. In 2008, he officially sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist in history. In 2012, his track 'Candy' premiered at number one and extended his reach to younger audiences. In the summer of 2025, he launched his Britpop Tour.

On Saturday night, Williams performed for 80,000 screaming fans at Croke Park in what he declared the best show of his entire career.

As the stadium buzzed in anticipation, massive screens on stage played a witty monologue about the concept of entertainment. It seemed intended to be ironic; commentary about the value of human entertainers in the age of artificial intelligence was interspersed with deepfake portrayals of music legends like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury praising Williams.

The intro stuck out, especially after incidents like Rod Stewart's AI-generated tribute to Ozzy Osbourne earlier this month. At Stewart's gig, AI Freddie Mercury takes selfies in heaven. At Williams', AI Freddie Mercury calls the 'Angels' singer "born to rule the stadium." As tongue-in-cheek as it may be intended, it could very well have been interpreted as disrespectful or egotistical.

Albeit, ego is a key facet of Williams' stage persona. This was fairly obvious as he burst onto the stage in a space suit and aviators, surrounded by dancers clad in RW-branded dresses.

Whilst singing the guitar-driven belter 'Rocket' (a recently released track off of his upcoming Britpop record) he climbed a lofty arch structure, which was raised in spaceship-like liftoff — complete with pyrotechnics — from which Williams dropped upside down back to the stage.

He didn't give fans a chance to pick their jaws up off the ground before launching into his aptly-named 1997 campy rock tune 'Let Me Entertain You'. In the first of many costume changes, Williams switched into a bedazzled red tracksuit — a nod to his iconic outfit at Glastonbury 1995, where he famously partied with Oasis shortly after leaving Take That.

There were quite a few references to his colourful past. Perhaps the most memorable was a conversation with a deepfake of his 17-year-old self projected onto the screen. On the video, young Williams remarked that he had just joined Take That and is excited to play music with a band he thinks he'll be in forever, adding that he would never drugs and alcohol like other rockstars (when he got older, it was Williams' addictions to drugs and alcohol that ultimately led to his departure from the band).

Later joined on stage by support act The Lottery Winners, Williams performed a rendition of Take That's 'Relight My Fire'. As he explained to the crowd, Williams was originally tapped for lead vocals on the track, but disputes within the band led to Gary Barlow singing instead.

Another stand-out moment came about halfway through, when Williams brought Mayo musician and comedian Garron Noone on stage.

"I did a little gig last night here in Dublin, and I made a few friends," said Williams, referring to his surprise show at the 37 Dawson Street pub the night prior with Noone and a handful of other Irish musicians. "So I thought that I'd recreate what we did last night here on this stage."

After performing a rendition of 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', Williams referenced Noone's famous catchphrases, telling the crowd, "Look after him, he's delicious!"

After a few more wild numbers full of costumes and dancers, Williams toned down his stage character to get real with the audience.

"Tonight, you guys have been the best audience I've ever had, ever," Williams told the crowd. "I guess a few of you are thinking, I bet he says that every night. I f***ing don't. Every show that I do from now on for the rest of my life is going to be measured against you guys. And I bet you, whoever it is, wherever they are, if they're not in this country, they're coming second, third and fourth."

Though his expression was sincere, he managed to work in a cheeky comment of, "What am I going to do with all this love? I'm going to be in a hotel room in an hour with a pack of prawn cocktail Pringles, watching Sky News and going, 'what the f*** just happened to me?'"

Williams is a master of wittiness — from joking about being as ambitious as Michael Jackson "without the other stuff" to his tour poster poking fun at Just Stop Oil's paint attacks (it pictures activists clad in "Just Stop Pop" shirts throwing paint on a portrait of Williams) — but moreso, he is a master of showmanship.

At the start of his show, Williams asked, "What is entertainment?" The question itself must be ironic; after dozens of flamboyant costume changes, streamer cannons, beyond talented dancers and backup singers, comedic quips and songs that entire nations know by heart, how could there be any doubt?

At Croke Park, one thing was for certain: Robbie Williams is entertainment.
