Posted August 17, 2025Aug 17 Spice Girls ● Albums: UK Chart Runs & Sales Note 1, re: Total Sales and First Week Sales -Official Charts Company retroactively downgraded sales from 1994-1996, both totals and first week sales. It's complicated to explain why, but if you're interested in knowing more then Google search: "1994-1996 DUS Panel Gallup Buzzjack" (without the quotation marks). This should bring up some old threads where the issue is discussed. This therefore affects Spice (the album). This resulted in there being different total sales and first week sales reported for these titles, over the years.A lot of the first week sales data comes from Music Week and Official Charts Company. However there are some releases (mainly solo) where the original source for this data couldn't be found, and some first week figures are estimations, not official.Note 2, re: Certifications -Multiples of 300,000 sales are considered to be Multi-Platinum, i.e. 600,000+ sales = 2xPlatinum) 300,000+ sales = Platinum 100,000+ sales = Gold 60,000+ sales = SilverCertifications became automatically applied from 22nd July 2013 onwards, meaning that if an album sold over a certain threshold then it is instantly awarded the appropriate certification. However, prior to that date, they weren't automatic - the label had to apply for them. Certifications also used to be based on shipment figures to stores, rather than over the counter sales. Some of their albums are technically over-certified. One example: Geri Halliwell - Schizophonic was certified 2xPlatinum for 600,000+ sales in June 2000, i.e. more than 600,000 physical copies had been shipped to stores - but the album actually sold less than this; as of May 2020 its total stood at 487,445. Friday at 17:442 days Ultimately unable to add to the two No.1 albums she scored as a member of the Spice Girls – 1996 debut Spice, and 1997 follow-up Spice World – Melanie C(hisholm) nevertheless scores her ninth straight solo chart album, representing her entire studio output, debuting at No.3 (19,483 sales) with Sweat – the highest sale for that position for 35 weeks. That’s not just the highest chart position of the 52-year-old Liverpudlian’s solo career – surpassing the No.4 peak of her 1999 solo debut, Northern Star – but also the highest position of any solo album by any Spice Girl (Geri Halliwell’s 1999 solo debut Schizophonic and Emma Bunton’s 2001 solo debut, A Girl Like Me also reached No.4). The only member of The Spice Girls to have a sustained and regular solo career, Chisholm has now had as many Top 75 albums as the rest put together.Chisholm’s best first week sale remains the 30,866 copies that her second album, Reason, sold on debut at No.5 in 2003, but Northern Star has outsold the rest of her output together by a margin of more than four to one. Achieving triple platinum status earlier this year, it has to-date consumption of 900,317 units. That is more than any other solo album by a Spice Girl (Geri’s Schizophonic is second with 490,819 units) but less than Spice (3,102,398 units) and Spice World (1,663,649 units). Mel B’s L.A. State Of Mind is the back marker (1,963 sales).

Friday at 17:492 days Author Well they only gave a total sale for Northern Star out of Melanie's previous albums, but it's good to know that it's finally surpassed 900,000! I was hoping we'd get some of her other solo totals though, particularly self-titled. Friday at 17:542 days Northern Star very recently crossed 900k then! When was it given its triple platinum certification?

Friday at 18:142 days LOL at LA State of Mind not having sold a single copy for 6 years! 😂Shame they couldn't be arsed to give a few more Melanie C album sales, I wanted to know them all!!!
Friday at 18:252 days Author Only took 25 years for Northern Star's total sales to match its certification achieved through shipments
Friday at 18:482 days Author I'm still disappointed that they didn't provide any other Melanie C totals bar Northern Star. 6 years since we last had updates for the majority of her albums.8th May 2020:102,550 - Reason28,818 - Beautiful Intentions14,934 - This Time13,750 - The Sea11,931 - Stages10,995 - Version of Me13th November 2020:9,741 - Melanie C (its total after 6 weeks of release)8th May 2026:900,317 - Northern StarWho knows how much self-titled might have added to that total. Still, I'm assuming that Sweat has probably outsold it already. If so, it's instantly Melanie's fourth best selling album out of 9! Probably unlikely that it can overtake Beautiful Intentions though but you never know, maybe if there is a proper deluxe release.

I havent touched it since it was released to be honest lolSales for their albums are a bit slower than thought... I really wish Spiceworld would sell much better than it does... Both SW and Spice are so far away from another Platinum certification, urgh...Yeah I wish they would have gone further and told us about Mel's other album sales. I would like to know if Reason and BI sold anything at all over the last few years...
