But yes I agree, dance producers are quite ageless in a way.Plus your average teenager in 2025 is far more likely to engage with Calvin Harris tracks (both old and new) than a teen in 2012 was with Robbie - speaking from experience as a 14 year old music nerd in 2012 whose friends didn’t care for Williams at all.
September 22, 2025Sep 22 Robbie is interesting case; I considered his music very "old" and Radio 2 when Escapology came out. I get that he tried to create "timeless" songs but it was very MOR and he was only 28. I blame Angels lol.

September 24, 2025Sep 24 Great interview with Greg here, 50-year-olds more than welcome in his eyes! This 15-29 thing is so outdated. As someone said on Unofficialmills, it was put in place many years ago when popular culture, the way people consume it and the radio landscape was totally different. Most Radio 1 A-list songs get on Radio 2 anyway which shows a lot of the musical output is very cross-generational. And I rarely feel too old to appreciate any of the actual content when I tune in. As long as it's people talking about everyday things in humourous ways, it lands fine at 42. Maya Jama would have been unrelatable no matter how young or old I was!https://inews.co.uk/culture/greg-james-privilege-makes-more-qualified-job-not-less-3928972 Edited September 24, 2025Sep 24 by HiyaLuv!

A very interesting character with a lot of layers. But I was always more Rudebox and Party Like A Russian than Angels and Something Beautiful. Feel they'd definitely play Candy if it happened now. The playlist regularly features people who are older than he was then, doing blander and more Radio 2-friendly songs than that! But they were under a lot of pressure to move on from his era (basically the 90s). I don't think the likes of Capital see Radio 1 as the threat/huge competitor they did then so they let them get on with it. Think the thirtysomething audience was a lot more lucrative then. Got to be a challenge getting up at that time, entertaining the nation, coming up with new content ideas and sounding jolly every day no matter what's going on in private. I bet people on Global get loads more! And he seems like the kind of person who would be very generous with it. Edited September 26, 2025Sep 26 by HiyaLuv!
