It's once again Ariana's year, extending her lead from last time to break the 500 point barrier - the first to do so in the current edition of ROTD. Meanwhile in the battle of the super-producers Mark Ronson leaps over Calvin Harris into 2nd. Billie Eilish also continues to get a direct pass to the final, tying for points with Gaga's film hit. The Charli hype from last year dies down a little with her big title dropping out of the top 5. We were also very close to seeing a Kendrick autoqualifier as the Super Bowl performance gave the song a recent chart resurgence. In the semi-finals we lose one Ariana song for another - 'Breathing' departs to be replaced by bigger chart hit 'Thank U, Next' to join 'God is a Woman'.

Taking a big jump into the top 20 as the biggest hit that required a nomination, the breakthrough for Juice WRLD will be having a go at the semi-finals now. A few other rap hits have similar boosts into the top 40 from A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott and Drake. It was also a good year for George Ezra with 'Paradise' leaping into the top 20 with 'Shotgun' not far outside. For fans of bands Arctic Monkeys and Bastille will also now be joining the semi-finals and The 1975 will now have two AQs for next year.

Buzzing that Metric held on to AQ and Arctic Monkey's best song (by a mile) from Tranquility Base has made the semis. Jumpsuit falling out is the only slight disappointment but for a year I generally don't rate at all, there's a pleasing amount of songs I quite like still in contention for the next stage.

5/6 of my nominations didn't really set this round alight but great to see 'Love It If We Made It' advancing to the AQ zone, a powerful moment from them
