Taylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Tops Billboard Hot 100 for Second Week

By Gary Trust | 10/20/2025

A week after Taylor Swift monopolized the top 12 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 — all from her new album, The Life of a Showgirl — the superstar now scores eight of the top 10, while all 12 songs from the set rank in the chart’s top 14.

Swift’s Hot 100 haul is led by “The Fate of Ophelia,” at No. 1 for a second week.

The album adds a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, following its modern-era-record debut with 4.002 million equivalent album units.

This week marks the fifth in the Hot 100’s history in which an act claims at least 12 of the top 14 places — and the first via a set’s second week of release. The four prior such frames, with three belonging to Swift, reflected albums’ debut chart weeks: Before The Life of a Showgirl’s performance a week ago, she charted the top 14 thanks to her album The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024 and filled the top 10, and 12 of the top 14, from Midnights in November 2022, while Drake amassed 12 of the top 14 the week that his Certified Lover Boy debuted in September 2021.

Here’s a look at Swift’s 12 songs in the top 14 spots on the latest Hot 100:

No. 1 this week, “The Fate of Ophelia” (No. 1 last week)

No. 2, “Opalite” (No. 2)

No. 5, “Elizabeth Taylor” (No. 3)

No. 6, “Father Figure” (No. 4)

No. 7, “Wi$h Li$t” (No. 6)

No. 8, “Wood” (No. 5)

No. 9, “The Life of a Showgirl,” feat. Sabrina Carpenter (No. 9)

No. 10, “Actually Romantic” (No. 10)

No. 11, “Cancelled!” (No. 11)

No. 12, “Eldest Daughter” (No. 12)

No. 13, “Ruin the Friendship” (No. 11)

No. 14, “Honey” (No. 12)

“The Fate of Ophelia” drew 49.1 million official streams (down 47%) and 42.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 10%) and sold 11,000 in the United States Oct. 10-16. Notably, the song sports an individual sales total for the first time, after no songs were available for purchase à la carte during The Life of a Showgirl’s first week of release; in its second week, only “The Fate of Ophelia” was.

The single launches at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, becoming Swift’s record-extending 30th leader; adds a second week atop Streaming Songs; and climbs 7-5 on Radio Songs, becoming just the third title to reach the top five in two weeks or fewer since the ranking began measuring all-format airplay in December 1998, joining Adele’s “Easy on Me” (one week, 2021) and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (two, 2011).

A week earlier, “The Fate of Ophelia” drew 92.5 million streams — the most for a song in a single week since all YouTube user-generated content (UGC) was removed from chart calculations in September 2020. With 49.1 million in its second week, it’s the first song to pass 40 million streams in multiple weeks since Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” did so for three weeks in February-March. “The Fate of Ophelia” is the first song to clear the mark in its first two weeks since two hits in May-June 2024: Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (its first four) and Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen (two).

Since September 2020, “The Fate of Ophelia” is Swift’s first song with multiple, and consecutive, weeks of more than 40 million streams. (She last achieved the feat with “Look What You Made Me Do” in its first two weeks in September 2017.)

“The Fate of Ophelia” became Swift’s 13th career Hot 100 No. 1, tying her for the fourth-most in the chart’s archives.

Swift now boasts the ninth-most weeks spent atop the Hot 100, as “The Fate of Ophelia” ups her count to 38 (breaking her out of a tie with Michael Jackson).

Most Weeks at No. 1 on Hot 100:

97, Mariah Carey

60, Rihanna

59, The Beatles

56, Drake

50, Boyz II Men

47, Usher

46, Beyoncé

39, Bruno Mars

38, Taylor Swift

37, Michael Jackson

(Beyoncé’s total above does not include her 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 as a member of Destiny’s Child, while Jackson’s doesn’t include his 10 weeks on top as part of the Jackson 5.)

Swift also ties for the fifth-most multiple-week Hot 100 No. 1s, as “The Fate of Ophelia” becomes her eighth such leader.

Here’s a look at the artists with the most hits that have led the Hot 100 for two or more weeks each (with their overall No. 1 totals in parentheses):

17 multiple-week Hot 100 No. 1s, Mariah Carey (19 total No. 1s)

15, The Beatles (20)

10, Rihanna (14)

9, Usher (9)

8, Beyoncé (9)

8, Janet Jackson (10)

8, Katy Perry (9)

8, The Supremes (12)

8, Taylor Swift (13)

Two songs break up Swift’s 12 in the Hot 100’s top 14 spots, led by HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” from Netflix’s record-slaying animated movie KPop Demon Hunters. It rebounds 13-3, following eight weeks at No. 1 beginning in August.

Plus, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which led the Hot 100 for 10 weeks starting in May, jumps 14-4, while ruling Radio Songs for an 18th week, up 1% to 78.5 million in audience — a new weekly best for the track. It also ties for the third-longest command in the airplay chart’s 35-year history, matching the No. 1 runs of Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (2023) and Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” (1998); only Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (27 weeks, 2024-25) and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (26 weeks, 2020) have led longer.

Effective this week, on the first Hot 100 of Billboard’s 2026 chart year, altered tiers will dictate when songs move to recurrent status following their runs on the ranking.

Previously, descending songs were removed from the Hot 100 once falling below No. 25 after 52 weeks or below No. 50 after 20 weeks. Descending songs will now depart via the following thresholds, once they are:

Below No. 5 after 78 weeks

Below No. 10 after 52 weeks

Below No. 25 after 26 weeks

Below No. 50 after 20 weeks

Songs gaining below those markers will be eligible to remain on the Hot 100 on a case-by-case basis. Plus, holiday classics will qualify to return above No. 50 regardless of total chart weeks, and then be subject to the rules noted above upon their descents; the same for newly-surging non-holiday catalog songs, with those without significant chart history eligible to debut at any rank, as considered individually. Songs will also continue to be removed from the all-format Radio Songs chart once they go recurrent on the Hot 100.

Notably, amid the takeover of streaming during the past decade, the Hot 100 has reflected repeat listening more than ever before. Concurrently, as reflected on Billboard airplay charts, radio stations are now generally holding onto hits longer and in frequent airplay rotations. That shift has resulted in charts that move more slowly than in the past.

The latest adjustments will alleviate congestion in various regions of the Hot 100, helping to move out songs that have gone recurrent at radio formats and/or are no longer actively being promoted by labels for DSP playlisting.

In especially recent years, songs have logged some of the longest Hot 100 runs to date, led by Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which leaves the Oct. 25 chart after a record 112-week stay. Other hits that move to recurrent status this week include Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” after 89 weeks, and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile,” after 60.

Well overdue update to the chart. Already looking fresher with that clear out this week.

Great to see all that purple Brit representation this week. Olivia Dean is really having her moment right now. 🙌🏻

Why is 'WILDFLOWER' still here deadbanana (the exodus of other fossil songs actually helping it to climb back into the top 50 lmao)

I've always wondered whether they apply the recurrency rules top to bottom or instantaneously. Would presume "Love Me Not" gets canned, except the 3 songs removed above it send it into the top 25 so it lives! Unless it was always going to overtake "Beautiful Things" this week. Shout out Luke Combs for the one debut they got this week due to this change, that's what the people wanted, right?

HOT 100 21.08.25 #55

THE TOP TEN:

10. Actually Romantic - Taylor Swift (Down 3/2 weeks in the chart)
9. The Life Of A Showgirl - Taylor Swift/Sabrina Carpenter (Down 1/2 weeks in the chart)
8. Wood – Taylor Swift (Down 3/2 weeks in the chart)
7. Wish List – Taylor Swift (Down 1/2 weeks in chart)
6. Father Figure - Taylor Swift (Down 2/2 weeks in chart)
5. Elizabeth Taylor - Taylor Swift (Down 2/2 weeks in the chart)
4. Ordinary - Alex Warren (Up 10/36 weeks in the chart)
3. Golden – Huntr/X/Ejae/Audrey Nuna/Rei Ami (Up 10/17 weeks in chart)
2. Opalite – Taylor Swift (No change/2 weeks in chart)
1. The Fate Of Ophelia - Taylor Swift (No change/2 weeks at No. 1/2 weeks in chart)

NEW ENTRIES:

93. Days Like These - Luke Combs (7.6/10)

This song's hook really represents the song's meaning in a simple and nice way, as a look at the little things in life and how good they can feel, as well as Luke saying that money can't buy them. I really prefer his soulful acoustic side, with his rougher voice serving too grittier country roots. I just think Combs is one to really sell his style in such a genuine way, as though it feels like it's oozing in his releases.

90. Pixelated Kisses – Joji (8.4/10)

The long-awaited new Joji, after 3 years… Now, if you don't know me, then "Die For You" is my favourite song of all time, and his last album, "Smithereens", is a top 10 album of all time for me, so waiting for him to drop his next release had me tense. And honestly? It's a completely new direction, but I'm vibing! Joji's signature dreamy vocals feature on top of a 1:50 rage beat that's a LOT more intense but actually complements the vocals in such a weird way, but also in such a way that adds life. I'm seriously so hyped to have a legend of this decade return; we should be so thankful for what Joji has brought to music over the past few years.

72. Eyes Closed – JISOO/ZAYN (7.5/10)

BLACKPINK's Jisoo and One Direction's Zayn work together on a song that feels better than expected. I mean, you could've expected this style, but I don't think people expected it to work this well. I mean, it's a ballad that shows both their styles in a way that you could expect to see, but it's just the way they connect, with their voices sounding made together for this song, with the tone just fitting that soft but sad paradise that they're going for.

71. Maui Wowie – Kid Cudi (8.5/10)

The nearly two-decade-old song reminds me of Kanye's "Graduation" but with some of a summer tint with added nostalgia that makes the song not only a fresh rap-pop tune but also something that has commercial success written all over it as well as critical success. I've heard this twice now, and I'm already hearing how addicting this can be – a TRUE throwback.

68. Leaving - Rod Wave (4/10)

Previous listen:

Rod makes the same rap-soul music that led me to dislike "Last Lap"; he just sounds so tired out and bored on the beat, with his songs having no real substance.

Second listen:

I don't like how Rod sounds like he's out of it on the beat, with his lower-tuned mumbles on top of a stale R&B beat with elements of hip-hop. I just don't think Rod has grown over the past year one bit... Is every song a cash grab, or is Wave just bad?

66. Part Of Me – A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie (7/10)

A less hardcore rap about Boogie's breakups and tough time, which he doesn't exactly tell the best; his pace and choice of words don't bring this across in a great way, although I see potential with vocal effects. The vocal effects absolutely bring this listen up a few points.

RE-ENTRIES:

now radio can really manipulate H100, since radio playlisted tracks can still chart. Wonder if Wildflower can do 113-week run just for sake of pointing out new rules to be dumb as hell
