Posted October 25, 2025Oct 25 I know I'm probably less 'mainstream' in general on here but I wanted to make this as about 92% of the mentions I see anywhere about Alanis is about her huge hit album Jagged Little Pill, which I can understand as it was very impactful indeed! But what about the rest? And this might be because I've been listening to her on some level since I was a kid lol so I'm 'used to' her other albums and I've kinda grown up with them, but it would be nice to see more appreciation for the rest of her work too haha.
October 25, 2025Oct 25 Author I could say a lot but I just think she is a beautiful example of an artist who has gone through a significant personal and artistic evolution, and in the process she lost fans but I also think she has been misunderstood. She was labelled an 'angry woman' but anger is just one emotion that she felt she had to express, she has many songs that are not angry lol.Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is my favourite record of hers, and is actually still one of my favourite albums of all time, although I choose not to listen to it often as it's very intense and long.I love songs like 'Utopia' which I never see mentioned, where she openly listed some of her beautiful visions for an ideal, empathetic world. For an even more obscure mention, I really love Feast on Scraps, which was leftover tracks from the Under Rug Swept era. For me 'Purgatorying' is easily one of her most interesting and intriguing songs! And nobody ever mentions it haha.
October 26, 2025Oct 26 Uninvited, Thank U, That I Would Be Good, Hands Clean, Precious Illusions, Everything, Eight Easy Steps, Crazy and Underneath are all faves of mine I'm glad she didn't just try to recreate Jagged Little Pill with every subsequent album, I always enjoyed Alanis most for her lyrics no matter what style she was doing.
October 26, 2025Oct 26 Underneath was a great single, that’s one of my favourites of hers. My most listened to Alanis tracks are:Hands CleanUnderneathYou Oughta KnowThank UTorchCrazyHead Over FeetUninvited21 Things I Want In a LoverThat I Would Be GoodSo only a couple from Jagged in there. I do think JLP is her best album, but she definitely has enough gems outside of it to warrant wider investigation
October 26, 2025Oct 26 Author 'Crazy' is really good but one of her rare covers! My lastfm isn't 100% accurate (it used to mess up sometimes and there were a couple short periods where I wasn't scrobbling) BUT, my top 10 scrobbles from her are:Hands CleanSurrenderingThank UStillPermissionSpiralWould Not ComeSo PureExcusesNot The DoctorYeah... Definitely not the most mainstream person on here. 😆 Only one from JLP ('Not The Doctor') and oh look, we have an obscure b-side in the form of Permission! 👏
February 12Feb 12 Author I'd be really curious to do a SyncTube listenthrough of Alanis' album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (the follow-up to Jagged Little Pill and one of my favourite albums ever). Would anyone be interested in such a thing? Lol.Especially with people who have never heard it before, or who only know her from JLP!
February 12Feb 12 I have Hands Clean and Uninvited on regular rotation in my house. I need to delve into her discography tbh as I enjoy most of what I hear from her.
March 1Mar 1 Author K, I would like to play Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie on SyncTube and have people be there appreciating it xoMonday evening?
April 7Apr 7 I prefer literally any album of hers to JLP. I mean I do enjoy JLP as well, but the later albums are also extremely good. I particularly love So-Called Chaos, Supposed Former and Such Pretty Forks...
April 7Apr 7 Maybe I'm in the minority here but I really didn't like Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie as a whole - although having said that it does contain 'Joining You' which is by far my favourite Alanis song I cannot listen to that whole album though, I found it such a disappointment after JLP. Maybe if I picked the ten best songs from it, it would be an OK album. I'd class Under Rug Swept as my favourite album of hers, that's pretty much a no skip album and 'Hands Clean' is an absolute banger!

Some songs I find a tad bit too long, though. I'm not sure if streaming has lowered my attention span... but the music itself on that album is top notch and really really good. My #1 Alanis song ever might be Everything. I just adore it so much. Summer / spring of 2004 (when the album came out or era started)... was one of my best year tbh.

And the best produced imo.59 minutes ago, Mangø said:How about an Alanis rate at some point? Has one been done before?I should start one tbh! And it could coincide with a SyncTube listenthrough of SFIJ And I have already decided on a couple warm-up songs hahaha
