For this edition they have opted to send the iconic Derrick May, arguably one of the founding figures of Detroit techno, which merged European synths with African-American funk, soul, and Chicago house. His most well-known production remains the amazing anthem “Strings of Life” which barely got a toehold on the singles chart (#74 in November 1989) but eventually was reworked into a Top 10 hit in 2005 by Soul Central. The track sent here was “Kaotic Harmony” with its rich melodic and rhythmic complexity that helped to define the Detroit techno and eventually its evolution into European techno through the 1990s.
