Biography

Born in South Africa and raised in Germany, WizTheMC—the stage name of Sanele Sydow—moved to Toronto to start his career, releasing his debut album Backin Toronto, followed quickly by his second full-length that same year, Blessings In Disguise. But it was the 2020 single “For a Minute” that launched WizTheMC into the mainstream, with the track earning a spot on Grey’s Anatomy as well as the 2021 film He’s All That. 2025’s “Show Me Love”—with bees & honey—then became a global hit, after which fellow South African singer Tyla joined for a remix. - Apple Music

Biography

The Killers dropped English synth-pop down into their glitzy, scuzzy Las Vegas world, and a familiar sound became brand new. The group launched in 2001, when frontman Brandon Flowers—then working in casinos—answered a advert from guitarist Dave Keuning; they wrote their breakout single, “Mr. Brightside”, at their first meeting. Rounded out by drummer Ronnie Vannucci and bassist Mark Stoermer, they rose to popularity with 2004’s glammy, post-punk Hot Fuss, its single "Somebody Told Me" a cheeky summary of a million conversations in the clubs. While initially seeming like a flashier counterpart to the dourness of The Strokes and Interpol, The Killers traded synthesisers for more guitars in the early 2000s, introducing a new sound akin to U2 and Springsteen on albums like 2006’s Sam’s Town and 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful. They do believe in love and rock, but they seem to feel a little sheepish about it as they get ready to go out. They returned in 2020 with their sixth album, Imploding the Mirage, and the Lindsey Buckingham-assisted single “Caution”. The song serves as both a return to roots and a mission statement for their future, as Flowers told Apple Music that it reminded The Killers of a universal truth: "Rock 'n' roll can be transcendent.” - Apple Music

Biography

A content creator who spans every imaginable outlet, Alex Warren stepped out from behind the phone and into the recording studio to introduce his passionate, ultimately chart-topping singer/songwriter pop. The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. The ‘90s saw many alternative rock bands take tentative toe-dips into Top 40 pop, but none made as dramatic and extreme a leap from the left to the right side of the dial as The Goo Goo Dolls. In their late-’80s infancy, the Buffalo natives were a ragtag power trio flexing enough hardcore heft to get them signed to heavy-music imprint Metal Blade. But as irreverent bassist/singer Robby Takac began to cede lead vocal duties to the band’s resident rugged romantic, guitarist Johnny Rzeznik, their sound settled into a more tuneful style of punky power pop. Once the band scored their first hit single in 1995 with the wistful, Westerbergian serenade “Name,” The Goo Goo Dolls became a bellwether for a new strain of post-grunge, adult-contemporary rock that reached its zenith with 1998’s string-swept power ballad “Iris”—at which point the group seemed less like a replacement for The Replacements than a big-brother act to emergent TRL phenoms like Matchbox 20 and Third Eye Blind. And they’ve continued to finesse that formula into the 21st century, cementing their rarefied position as the only band that started out playing punk dives with The Dead Milkmen and ended up headlining amphitheaters with Daughtry. - Apple Music

Biography

Oscillating between trap soundscapes and down-home tunes for driving dusty roads, Shaboozey is proof that rap and country music are more similar than people think. Born Collins Obinna Chibueze in 1995, Shaboozey first gained serious attention with more linear rap offerings like "Jeff Gordon," scoring a deal with Republic Records in 2017. With projects like 2018's Lady Wrangler, he showcased more dimensions to his fusion of country and hip-hop, and the formula was more or less perfected by the time he was releasing songs like 2023's earnestly yearning "Let It Burn." The next year, he parlayed that momentum into guest spots on Beyoncé's country-leaning album, COWBOY CARTER ("SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN'" and "SPAGHETTII"). He leveled up again with "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," a track that reimagines J-Kwon's 2004 single "Tipsy" as something you play on a country-bar jukebox. Biography

Singer/songwriter Olivia Dean crafts poignant ballads and warm pop anthems, showcasing a deep sense of self-awareness. Born in 1999 in Enfield and raised in Walthamstow, Dean participated in gospel choir at a young age, before busking in the streets and eventually attending the famous BRIT School. Influenced by Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Carole King, Dean’s own take on music is autobiographical and vulnerable. In 2019, she released her debut EP, Ok Love You Bye, which delved into the challenging aspects of dating, like on the meditative “Password Change”. The following year, Dean dropped her follow-up EP, What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?, a concise but evocative set of songs brimming with celestial melodies and confessional lyrics.
