Posted January 5Jan 5 a2n0s2e5lAlmost wasn't gonna do this but it seems a shame not to! I haven't posted my chart on here in a while (lazy x) but I'm gonna count down a points-based top 100 of my chart in 2025. Before I get started, here are a few other things:top 5 artists who i got into more this year:Frost ChildrenPearly DropsOklouAfterNinajirachiI don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of the artists I got into this year have quite a throwback sound: from the 00s internet nostalgia of Ninajirachi and After, to the 2010s electronic sound of Frost Children. I also enjoyed Pearly Drops' recent output (especially Mermaid which I sent to BJSC), and Oklou's album (speaking of, see below...)top 15 albums:Hayley Williams - Ego Death at a Bachelorette PartyLorde - VirginLily Allen - West End GirlLady Gaga - MayhemBad Bunny - Debí Tirar Más FotosAddison Rae - AddisonRose Gray - Louder, PleaseFKA twigs - Eusexua / Eusexua Afterglow (combined for the sake of a nice round 15 x)PinkPantheress - Fancy thatFrost Children - SISTERROSALÍA - LUXOklou - choke enoughFlorence + the Machine - Everybody ScreamAitana - CUARTO AZULJane Remover - RevengeseekerzMy album of the year is Hayley Williams' Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party. I think the unconventional release strategy (releasing 17 singles on the same day x) actually really helped me to focus on every individual song without any falling to the wayside - for me this is Hayley's most diverse album and lyrically is very open about her life over the past few years. I'll talk more about most of these albums when I'm doing my top 100 rundown, but a special shoutout to some of the slow burner albums that grew on me over time, specifically Florence and Aitana's albums <3
January 6Jan 6 Nice to see "Virgin", "West End Girl", "Mayhem", "DTMF", "Addison", "Fancy That", "LUX" and "Everybody Scream" in the albums list!
January 11Jan 11 Author Thank you Sergej, glad you liked those albums!Should probably actually make a start on this 🙊 ...although before I actually hit the top 100, here are some of my fav songs that almost made the cut!Perfume Genius - It’s a Mirror (this kind of sound is my favourite thing perfume genius does)Lorde - Man Of The Year (took its time to fully grow on me but I love the gradual build up to something really dramatic - I just wish it went a little further)Kesha ft. Slayyyter & Rose Gray - ATTENTION! (literally just a fun song. and i'm very glad rose is deservedly increasing her profile with stuff like this!)No Audience - Absolutely (a great bjsc find with gorgeous instrumentation)Allie X - Reunite (i really love the offbeat, unsettling vibe of this song and allie's latest era as a whole. the chorus feels genuinely claustrophobic and i love it)Wolf Alice - White Horses (wolf alice in their fleetwood mac bag! while i didn't enjoy their latest era as much as the incredible blue weekend, this is a definite highlight)Pearly Drops ft. Cub Sport - Mermaid (getting into pearly drops more this year has been really fun, i just really love their sound)Rigoberta Bandini - El Amor (this is actually a cover of an 80s song, which i didn't realise for a long time, but i love the emotional climax of this song)Real Lies - Rare Rapport (real lies never disappoint and i love the synth line in this, as well as the nostalgic lyrics)KETTAMA - It Gets Better (Forever Mix) (maybe my fav thing i sent to bjsc this year, and not just because it was my best result to date xx)Lily Allen - West End Girl (a great album intro which sets the scene for the rest of the album. it feels like it could be the start of a musical, which is apt considering the lyrics x)Hayley Williams - Ice In My OJ (the way i listened to this song for months before i found out the chorus is sampled from a song hayley did for a christian webcomic aged 13?? this version flips the original into a much moodier piece that deals with how the music industry and hayley's former label treated her at the start of her career, and it's great that she gets to tell that story now)
January 17Jan 17 Author Actually locking in for this now let's go x100 Weeds - Sugababes [08 - 10 - 13 - 16 - 16 - 25 - 33 - 36]99 Redeye - Babymorocco [10 - 10 - 11 - 07 - 06 - 12 - 17 - 22 - 25 - 32]98 Everything is romantic - Charli XCX ft. Caroline Polachek [23 - RE - 04 - 01 - 02 - 02 - 04 - 05 - 06 - 05 - 04 - 06 - 06 - 04 - 09 - 13 - 18 - 23 - 27 - 33 - 37 - 37 - 40 - 40]97 Sway - beabadoobee [12 - 09 - 13 - 19 - 22 - 25 - 26 - 26 - 38 - 40]96 Childlike Things - FKA twigs ft. North West [05 - 06 - 10 - 16 - 19 - 24 - 34 - 40]95 LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii - Bad Bunny [11 - 15 - 09 - 12 - 22 - 25 - 26 - 33 - 36 - 38]94 The Field - Blood Orange ft. Tariq Al-Sabir, Caroline Polachek, Daniel Caesar & The Durutti Column [16 - 19 - 26 - 09 - 11 - 15 - 20 - 27]93 Discovery Channel - Hayley Williams [03 - 07 - 11 - 15 - 24 - 27 - 31 - 35 - 37]92 The Giver - Chappell Roan [06 - 08 - 12 - 18 - 21 - 24 - 25 - 30]91 David - Lorde [09 - 11 - 14 - 16 - 18 - 26 - 27 - 31 - 33 - 35]Starting us off strong are some medium-sized hits from this year. Weeds is a great chilled R&B track from the Sugababes, and then we have a 2010s-influenced slice of dance-pop from Babymorocco, who has a couple of songs left to come. Everything is romantic was actually my 12th-biggest song of 2024 and makes it in for 2025 too (most of its very impressive chart run happened in 2024, wish I still rigged my charts for my favs to this extent ). Less said about Childlike Things the better - it's fun but by no means one of the best songs on Eusexua in an objective sense 💀 Covers/reinterpretations are well-represented in this section with beabadoobee's version of Bic Runga's Sway, and Hayley Williams's version of Bloodhound Gang's The Bad Touch, reworked into Discovery Channel. Finally is a real grower from Lorde's latest album. David's production has a really interesting disorienting feel and I'm glad it gained a bit of a life of its own on TikTok for a brief while, definitely a song that deserves it!
January 17Jan 17 Hi Ansel Great to see this kicking off - my favourites to appear so far are 'Weeds', 'Everything is romantic' and 'David'! I wasn't expecting new Sugababes music to tap into trip-hop sounds, even though they've technically dabbled in that world before with the likes of 'Stronger', but I'm so glad they did as the pay-off is gorgeous
January 19Jan 19 Author Thank you both for your comments! I agree that Weeds is absolutely gorgeous - I've enjoyed their upbeat recent singles too but Weeds is honestly the one I return to most now! Both of you mentioning 'Everything is romantic' is absolute taste x90 Nobody’s Son - Sabrina Carpenter [04 - 06 - 10 - 17 - 22 - 23 - 29 - 35]89 Plastic Box - JADE [06 - 12 - 14 - 18 - 21 - 23 - 32 - 30 - 33 - 35 - 36]88 More - Carly Rae Jepsen [08 - 09 - 10 - 13 - 16 - 20 - 25 - 33]87 Beto's Horns (fred remix) - Fred again.. ft. Trueno & Proof [03 - 05 - 11 - 16 - 20 - 26 - 30 - 36 - RE - 35 - 34]84 take me by the hand - Oklou ft. Bladee [12 - 08 - 09 - 15 - 19 - 20 - 28 - 33 - 34 - 38 - 38]83 Off The Rails - BENEE [04 - 10 - 12 - 17 - 20 - 22 - 30 - 31 - 34 - 36]82 Got To Feel - FKA twigs [04 - 07 - 09 - 08 - 19 - 27 - 25 - 26]81 Ruminating - Lily Allen [04 - 06 - 06 - 09 - 17 - 24 - 35 - RE - 38 - 38]This section starts off with Sabrina Carpenter channelling her inner Bucks Fizz - I've enjoyed the 70s-y pop sound she's gone for recently but as you'll see later my favs from Sabrina are the ones where she strays away from that a bit! Then we have several pieces of synthpop perfection from JADE and Carly, followed by one of a few Fred again songs that caught my ear. Wolf Alice's latest era didn't live up to the incredible Blue Weekend, but then again very few things could, and 'The Sofa' is a gorgeous ballad that would fit at any time in their career. 'The Manifesto' is my favourite so far from Gorillaz's new album, mixing reggaeton with Indian folk music and a posthumour rap feature, all without feeling overdone. 'take me by the hand' is Oklou at her most frutiger aero, 'Off The Rails' is a fun pop song that packs a punch. Then 'Got To Feel' is one of those songs where FKA twigs shows off her Madonna influences with very Ray Of Light production and touches of Björk, while 'Ruminating' is a fast-paced track which really manages to depict what it feels like to have your thoughts spiralling.
January 20Jan 20 West End Girl deservedly slaying in the albums Weeds and take me by the hand are my favourite songs to appear so far! The former is lush, their vocals have never sounded so great, and the latter was a great discovery for me last year.
January 20Jan 20 Author Thanks both for your comments! West End Girl was such a great way to make a comeback, I love how unafraid to go into detail it is and what a deserved success!80 Falling - Frost Children [10 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 22 - 25 - 28 - 29 - 33 - 36 - 38 - 34 - 36 - 37]79 I Don’t Speak French - Rose Gray [09 - 10 - 10 - 11 - 16 - 23 - 29 - 35 - 39 - 22 - 23 - 33...]78 CONTROL - Frost Children [06 - 04 - 09 - 17 - 20 - 27 - 29 - 31 - 36 - 37 - 38]77 F*Me - Shygirl ft. Also in this section are two songs from the end of 2024 that saw continued success in 2025 (Aquamarine was #84 on my 2024 EOY, so this year gives it a new peak!). JT's 'Girls Gone Wild' was another BJSC discovery for me, and the first of 2025's chart toppers to drop out. Then there's a slow synthpop track from Aitana, and an interesting piece of dance-poetry from Antony Szmierek, an artist recommended to me by a friend and one that's become a real favourite for me! Then there's more Bad Bunny, I really love how on 'NUEVAYoL' he takes an old sample and turns it into an upbeat danceable song. 'Crystallise My Tears' feels very classic Danny L Harle (I always love when he produces something that would sound at home on a Mario Kart soundtrack), 'Dios Es Un Stalker' is one of my highlights from Lux, and 'iPod Touch' was my introduction to Ninajirachi (and ngl, I prefer this one over her BJSC win!). A few songs I honestly don't return to much from overplaying them at the time ('Manchild' and 'DENIAL IS A RIVER') are next, then we have a very deserved comeback single from Zara Larsson - I'm so glad it's FINALLY doing something for her! Then a deluxe track from Rose Gray, who's had a big year and has plenty more songs to feature in this countdown!

Barry B [03 - 03 - 07 - 09 - 12 - 15 - 17 - 25 - 29 - 32]This section starts off strong with a Gaga album track - despite not having the longest of chart runs it's turned into a real Mayhem highlight for me! Next up, an uptempo dance number from Babymorocco, 'Really Hot' sees Rocco acknowledging that he is really hot, self aware king x He's recently said he doesn't plan on releasing anything that sounds like this song again soon, which is a shame as it's one of my favourites from him! 'Talk talk' by Charli is my longest charting song of all time (tied with 'Girl, so confusing' on 38 weeks), most of its insane chart run was actually in 2024 where it was understandably the biggest song of the year. Next is a real slow burner from Rose Gray which got a new lease of life thanks to a Shygirl remix. Jae Stephens feels like she's finally getting her flowers (just not enough of them) and this is one of my favourite songs from her - 'SMH' in this instance rather iconically stands for 'so many hoes' 'gossip' is a great collab from JADE and Confidence Man - I love that JADE has really pushed the boundaries of what a post-Little Mix career could look like. Next up is 'Busy Woman' which remains one of my favourite Sabrina songs, 'Zjerm' is... honestly not a song I've thought about in a while! But a real return to form for Albania in Eurovision. At #52 is 'Lotus': you wait for one song to sample 'Dark & Long' by Underworld and in 2025 you get 2! To cap this section off is an Aitana album track, the relatively chilled 'TRANKIS' which I think is a good representation of Aitana's latest album as a whole, more reflective and melancholy at times than her poppier previous efforts.

I heard this so much on TikTok and knew I had to send it - it feels like an updated version of Paramore's 'All I Wanted' at times. At #49 is Lorde with 'Broken Glass', one of the poppiest moments on Virgin. Several Gaga songs as per usual by this stage, 'Vanish Into You' is one that really grew into a highlight over time, hence it re-entering my chart towards the end of this year (I think winter is definitely its season!). 'Tonight' was the introduction to a phenomenal era for PinkPantheress, meanwhile 'Opalite' was one of the few bearable songs from Taylor's latest album xx HAIM made a comeback this year with the R&B-influenced 'Relationships' - although I did struggle to connect with much of the rest of their album which was a shame as Women In Music was one of my favourite things they've done. Quevedo & Aitana scored a late-2024 #1 with 'GRAN VÍA', and its success continued into the start of 2025 (for me this is such a cold weather song because of when it originally released, so I've been listening to it a lot again lately!). JADE covered Chase & Status's 'Backbone' for Radio 1 and gave it a streaming release, and I loved it enough to make it a chart-topper. I love the production flip-up and how she showcases her heritage on this version of the song. And finally, cruelly denied a top 40 placing is Florence + The Machine's 'One of the Greats' which just feels so huge and cathartic to me, my highlights of Florence's latest album are the songs that examine how women are perceived in the music industry (i.e., this one and 'Music By Men').
January 23Jan 23 Loving the Gaga impact so far, loads of MAYHEM favourites appearing, what a phenomenal album

Babymorocco sings this song in character as the titular 'Jean Paul'... which means he sings the entire song with a French accent. At the time, I left this track to one side and listened a lot more to a different track (which is yet to come). However, eventually the completely nonsensical 'I want to rearrange it / I want to go and taste it' became a bit of a vocal stim for me and a friend, and this song made a late entry into my chart. She admitted she wanted to do something completely different, and swapping club-ready electronic production for dramatic orchestrals definitely fits that description! The production is gorgeous synthpop that honestly wouldn't sound out of place on a recent Taylor Swift album, with lyrics inspired by the 80s classic 'Bette Davis Eyes'. I was a bit disappointed by Ethel's album overall but this is a real gem from it (sorry!). January 24Jan 24 Just popping my head in here - nice to see Zjerm pop up, one of my favourites from Eurovision this year, a real earworm for me! It made a dent in my EOY as well but it's slightly higher in yours.
Monday at 12:045 days Ethel Caine has never been for me but F*ck Me Eyes was so good, I gave the album a try and while the storytelling is great the music just is not it personal taste wise except for that song. Chains of Love was a great lead single to kick off the new era but haven't liked the rest of the songs since sadly. I need to check out Backbone by Jade. Glad to see Fancy That in top 10 albums!
Monday at 17:335 days Author Thank you both for your comments! Zjerm is such an intriguing song and I definitely recommend Jade's version of Backbone :)35 JRJRJR - Jane Remover [15 - 05 - 08 - 07 - 08 - 06 - 08 - 11 - 14 - 24 - 28 - 30 - 35 - 38]Jane Remover's music is quite honestly the most overstimulating experience I can imagine but I really do love it. 'JRJRJR' is about self-doubt and public perception, and something I really love about Jane's music is how self-referential it is: you can always recognise sound effects and samples from their other music.Jane Remover's EOY history:2024 10 Flash in the Pan2025 35 JRJRJR34 I Like Ur Look - Kim Petras [02 - 02 - 03 - 03 - 05 - 08 - 14 - 15 - 28 - 33 - 16 - 17 - 27]I've always been a bit wary of engaging TOO much with Kim given her... closest collaborator, but I'm glad she's now moved away from him and is working with Frost Children a lot, who really compliment the sound and image she's going for. This is straight up 2010s EDM-pop and it's just fun! I hope that now Kim is negotiating her way out of her record deal, she can keep working in more interesting circles and make more stuff like this.Kim Petras's EOY history:2025 34 I Like Ur Look33 harvest sky - Oklou ft. underscores [02 - 02 - 03 - 06 - 10 - 11 - 15 - 20 - 23 - 23 - 23 - 25 - 37]Getting into Oklou was a real highlight of my year discovery-wise, and this was the most immediate song for me. I think the best description of her is, in Ethel Cain's words, 'pop music for bugs' the memes inserting sound effects from this song into random clips are also iconic xOklou's EOY history:2025 33 harvest sky (ft. underscores)2025 67 Crystallise My Tears (with Danny L Harle & MNEK)2025 84 take me by the hand (ft. Motomami-era Rosalía will always be so special to me but this is such a great introduction to the Lux era and feels like such a different, brave step for her.
