Positions are accurate thanks to the fabulous weekly subscription publication, UKChartsPlus. Sales estimates are all my own. Estimating singles sales is never entirely straightforward as the weekly chart has rules applied, but I do my best. Feel free to chip in at any point with more accurate information.

I will aim to post the updated YTD Top 40 with sales each week, any entries and dropouts, and anything reaching a new 2026 peak.

We are so back! Excited to see how this year unfolds. No real big surprise entries in the first week due to all the Christmas songs, maybe we’ll get some next week.

Wham! should survive until week 4 I think

  • Author

Official #35 missing the Top 100 just underlines the level of ACR distortion.

Normally this week is very sluggish for sales. This time last year the #100 barely did 8k, but this year it did 9.5k. The difference is partly Christmas songs but in general it feels like a more buoyant start to the year than usual.

Also we don’t have any of the New Year’s party one offs like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” this year - I guess due to the higher bar and New Year’s Day being an untracked Thursday.

Great to have this back for another year!

'Elizabeth Taylor' not reset it appears - either that or a label decision to chart 'The Life Of A Showgirl' ahead of it. 'Upside Down' would have been comfortably Top 40 with a reset, which it surely would have been given had its increase happened in any other week.

Glad to have this back! Shame about the Christmas songs, think only the official top 38 made it in the first YTD of 2024 so has 2026 set a new low?

Glad to see Kylie in the top 100 for once! I can’t remember if ‘Padam Padam’ made it and fell out or never made it.

I remember that because “Padam Padam” had a neat 100-99-98-99-100-out YTD run!

Out of the top 100, exactly 50 were on last year's list, including 'Mr. Brightside' and 'DAISIES' being in the exact same position that they finished last year:

image.png

Out of the remaining 50, nine have made at least one previous year end list but not 2025 (admittedly four of these are Christmas songs):

image.png

The remaining 43 have never made a year end before:

image.png

Once again a lot of these are Christmas songs and I think a number of them would have made Year End's in the 1970's if they'd been compiled correctly:

Happy Xmas (War is Over): 1972 & 1980

Merry Xmas Everybody: 1973

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday: 1973

Wonderful Christmastime 1979 (less sure on this one tbf)

The below songs have been in the YTD every week since week one of 2025, and those in bold since week one of 2024:

Naive

Naive being one of the few songs to have been on the list for the last two years straight amongst two mega-hits from the last two years and long term mainstays is very impressive imo. This marks the end of Capaldi's Reign of Terror as 'Someone You Loved' drops out for the first time since the start of 2019, this is also the first time 'Riptide' hasn't been on the list for a while.

The following six songs charted on audio streaming this week but did not make the YTD:

KATSEYE - Gabriela (#86)

She & Him - I Thought I Saw Your Face Today (#91)

Gunna feat. Burna Boy - wgft

EsDeeKid, fakemink & Rico Ace - LV Sandals (#97)

Sabrina Carpenter - Taste (#99)

Bing Crosby w/ Ken Darby Singers & John Scott Trotter & His Orchestra - White Christmas (#100)

They were replaced by the bottom five songs on the YTD.

  • Author

“Taste” at YE25 #19 is the highest not to make 2026 Week 1, though I fully expect that, the 2 Teddys, Myles and Alex to be back with the Christmas outflux meaning the highest we’ve definitely lost for good is “Show Me Love” at YE25 #32. I won’t count on having lost “Someone You Loved” for good just yet either, though it was flagging a bit towards the end of last year so I’m not surprised it hasn’t made it this week.

Think we’ve got 15 guaranteed drop outs (probably 17 as I doubt Kelly or the Pogues hold on), so lots of space to fill.

Think Wham did 2k in week 2 for 2025, what are we thinking Christmas songs will do this year?

It was actually 3.5k!

Oh and if you’ve ever wanted to know how much “Last Christmas” sells in the 2nd week of January the answer’s 3.5k!

Not sure Heroes makes it this week tbh.

Hopefully the Cure but I suspect they have a terrible premium ratio
