Thursday at 18:193 days I kind of bought 'Perfection' at the time just to support Dannii and I didn't think it was that great, but me and one of my best friends had a real moment with it when it came on during a night out about a decade ago and it's been quite special for me ever since. It's definitely no 'You Won't Forget About Me' or even close though!*Also, I kind of love how appalling bad the video is. It looks like it was filmed on a camcorder Edited Thursday at 18:213 days by Jessie Where
Thursday at 18:243 days I like most of Dannii's music and I like her. But, put a gun to my head and ask me to hum a note of that song to stay alive. Well... i'd be gone Just not memorable at all.
Thursday at 20:422 days Perfection really was quite dire.Similarly, if someone asked me about it, the only thing I’d be able to say is that “I think it’s the one where she has some topless men wafting about in the sun” 😂
Thursday at 21:132 days Aww I really liked Perfection, the backing track is really good in that trying to recreate Lola's Theme vibe she was going for in the mid-00s.Over was a good track too, I bought both of these on single. The Louise track is ok, didn't really feel as big as the other songs that debuted in the top ten that week so it did well to get to No.5, partly boosted by that Don't Give Up song for Asda and the Tickled Pink charity (although new lyrics sung to the tune of the Asda Price song was such a corny idea).
Friday at 17:442 days Author 16 Ashlee Simpson - Boyfriendavg: 5.97👑 Pop Royalty: 10 (Viper*), 9 (...ready for it, Paddington James, Jessie Where, troublepink)❌ Pop Flop: 1 (Henessy Lake), 3 (777666jason, ElectroBoy)Ashlee is indeed going out tonight as she departs just ahead of the top 15, with a 5.97 average. This is a fair bit lower than 6.92 for 'Pieces of Me' in the previous rate.Simpson didn't let the Saturday Night Live lip-syncing controversy break her and released a sophomore album in 2005, entitled I Am Me. She'd previously dyed her hair jet black, to distance herself from sister Jessica in the public consciousness, but reverted back to blonde for this era. She stuck with a pop-rock lane for lead single 'Boyfriend' and worked with the same writing team as 'Pieces of Me'. 'Boyfriend' shares quite a bit of lore with 'Over' by Lindsay Lohan from earlier in the countdown. Firstly, in addition to Simpson herself, this song was also written and produced by Kara DioGuardi and John Shanks. 'Over' was penned about Lohan's ex-flame Wilmer Valderrama and 'Boyfriend' is about a love-triangle involving Simpson, Lohan and Valderrama. The drama! The music video for 'Boyfriend' sees Ashlee being targeted by the police in a car chase. She escapes this and performs 'Boyfriend' with her band to a young crowd in a scrapyard. This video was directed by Marc Webb who is also a filmmaker, involved with productions such as (500) Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider Man. His extensive videography includes directing for other Pop Princesses, such as Anastacia and Hilary Duff, plus bands like Green Day and My Chemical Romance. 'Boyfriend' became Ashlee's third top 20 hit in the U.K. when it peaked at #12. This was during a week when Notorious B.I.G. was posthumously topping the chart with 'Nasty Girl'. She was the second highest new entry behind 'Run It!' by Chris Brown and Juelz Santana at #2. Bon Jovi also registered a new entry this week (with 'Welcome to Wherever You Are' at #19) and 'Boyfriend' writer John Shanks would later go on to become Bon Jovi's rhythm guitarist. Seven songs called 'Boyfriend' have made the U.K. top 75 to date and Ashlee slots in as the fifth highest peaking one - behind Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Dove Cameron and Mabel, but ahead of Alphabeat and Selena Gomez. Viper* had Ashlee's back and gave 'Boyfriend' its highest score of 10. Meanwhile, Henessy Lake was happy for this music to be drowned out, scoring her just 1.
Yesterday at 18:271 day Author 15 Mis-Teeq - Can't Get It Backavg: 6.81👑 Pop Royalty: 10 (Doug, Scene), 9 (Josh!, lewistgreen, Lukuzz)❌ Pop Flop: -1 (Henessy Lake), 3 (Julian_)Averages begin to shoot up now as Mis-Teeq kick off the top 15 with a 6.81 score. The British girl-group avoided a sophomore slump with career defining single and Pop Princesses rate bronze medallist 'Scandalous'. This song would even make waves Stateside later on, but the girls had to keep up momentum for their Eye Candy album domestically in the meantime. It was decided that 'Can't Get It Back' would serve as the next single here. This summery break-up anthem is a cover version of fellow girl-group Blaque's track of the same name from 2001. This American trio only ever made a minor splash in the U.K. with their #31 hit '808' in 1999. 'Can't Get It Back' was written by a team of Salaam Remi, Marlon Williams and Hernst "StayBent" Bellevue. Remi also served as producer and has some other impressive production credits to his name, such as working alongside Mark Ronson on Amy Winehouse's Back to Black album.Blaque member Natina Reed has a writing credit on the original, but this is replaced with Alesha Dixon on Mis-Teeq's cover, who contributed her own rap instead. The track also has further writing credits for Aubrey Gravatt, Joseph Freeman and Theodore Life due to a sample of 'We're Going to a Party' by Evelyn "Champagne" King.'Can't Get It Back' failed to reach the same heights as 'Scandalous' but kept up Mis-Teeq's clean run of top 10 hits at the time, peaking at #8. This was their 7th and final top 10 result and meant their chart history was book-ended with #8 hits at the time, as debut 'Why' also achieved the same position. 'Can't Get It Back' was the third highest new entry during that week in July 2003 behind fellow Pop Princess Beyoncé at #1 with 'Crazy In Love', plus S Club Juniors landed at #4 with 'Fool No More'.Doug and Scene gave the girls all of their love with a generous score of 10. Meanwhile, Henessy Lake won't be back for more, as Mis-teeq got their lowest score of -1.
10 hours ago10 hr Not sure “It’s just not going down like that” would stand up in court. One of their weakest singles.Nothing much of note out - the Ashlee song is alright.
8 hours ago8 hr I quite like Boyfriend. I enjoyed the singles from Ashlee Simpson's first three albums.I had never heard the Mis-Teeq song until quite recently and I actually quite like it. It's close to the weakest of their singles, but that's not a negative as they had such great singles.
1 hour ago1 hr Author 14 Atomic Kitten - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)avg: 6.99👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (lewistgreen), 10 (JosephStyles)❌ Pop Flop: 2 (Julian_), 3 (Jaz13music)The kittens couldn't quite claw their way to a 7+ average in the end and finished with a tantalisingly close 6.99 score.Jenny Frost, Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon were here to stay after 'Whole Again' proved to be a pop behemoth. They followed up this smash hit with a cover version of 'Eternal Flame' by The Bangles, another #1 result. The proven success of MOR sounds and cover versions would help to shape the sound of their next record. 'It's OK!' was a breezy lead choice for second album Feels So Good and charted at #3 for the girls. However, their next chart-topper was waiting in the wings, a cover with a twist...'The Tide Is High' originally dates back to 1967. It was recorded by The Paragons in a rocksteady style. This violin-heavy version originally featured male pronouns as they sing "I'm not that kind of man". Blondie would later bring this song to international audiences after they covered it in 1980. Their reggae version now had the updated "I'm not that kind of girl" lyric and became a chart-topper in both the U.S. and U.K., their third #1 there and fifth here. Billie Piper also recorded a cover of 'The Tide is High' for her second album Walk of Life and it was originally pencilled in as single #4 from that campaign, but later cancelled, after Billie chose to walk away from the music industry. So, it was up to someone else to popularise this song for the 2000s...Atomic Kitten released 'The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)' as the second single from Feels So Good. The track has writing credits for Paragons members John Holt and Tyrone Evans, but also the team of Howard Barrett, Bill Padley and Jem Godfrey - as they co-wrote the updated bridge for the girls, which gave the song title its '(Get The Feeling)' component. Padley and Godfrey were also writers on previous Kittens smash 'Whole Again' and would later be credited on 'That's My Goal' by Shayne Ward too. 'The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)' is memorably featured in the opening credits of The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which may help to explain why it's their most streamed song on Spotify, even over 'Whole Again'. The music video stands out as a memorable moment in their catalogue as Natasha Hamilton is visibly pregnant in it, proudly showing off her bump with cropped clothing, rather than attempting to hide it away in baggy clothes. Atomic Kitten had previously followed The Bangles as the second act to reach #1 in the U.K. with a version of 'Eternal Flame' and now they had done the same with 'The Tide Is High', taking it to the top for a second time after Blondie's #1 version. This was the group's third and final #1 hit and stayed there for a fortnight in 2002. They blocked 'Fantasy' by Appleton from #1 during their second week at the top in an all girl-group top 3, also featuring 'Round Round' by Sugababes. lewistgreen proudly declared that he was going to be their #1 and awarded Atomic Kitten a top score of 11. Meanwhile, the girls didn't give much for Julian_ to believe in, giving them a 2.
45 minutes ago45 min Ashlee's song is way better than that Mis-Teeq filler (probably the only one of their top 10 hits I don't care for). Boyfriend is another I bought at the time, I really liked Ashlee's music. The Tide Is High was a very fun cover that I've always been fond of. I liked the extra 'Get The Feeling' section.
