You really do talk out your ass and have no idea to what your going on about

I CERTAINLY would rather listen to Robbie at a Dinner Party then someone like Dido or Norah ^_^

This dinner party thing is bull$h!t. Dinner parties play any type of mainstream music, it´s just not play it too loud and you can put Robbie and Anastacia on a dinner party too, and even more leftfield acts. This dinner party thing is just an excuse for people who can accept that some artists are more popular then other simply because of their music, and not any promotional gimmick. I read reviews of artists like Dido and Norah Jones and they were always positive when the artists were starting... Only when they became selling millions magazines felt the need to slag them off cause it was type to move to the next 15-minutes-of-fame act. And they remain with positive reviews in foreigner countries, where magazines and brainless people have not labelled them "background music". Of course music becomes background music when it sells too much or it´s too popular - the Beatles songs are always played at dinner parties and soundtracks. Anything who sells in obscene quantities is going to be played everywhere anytime.

The 'dinner party' music tag has been levelled at one of my favourite albums of all time - Portishead's Dummy. It has also been called Coffee Table music

I guess most chill out albums that are easy listening can be labelled as that - and this does include Dido and Norah Jones.

I despise Norah with passion, not because she sells millions, but because of what she sells is shit. If she made good music and didn't sell any of it at all, then I would like her, mainly because of her music. Or even if she made good music and sold millions, I would still like her,

I seriously don't know how you cope, Norah Jones and Dido

Because they are good and superior to 95% of other mainstream females... Other millions of people agree. Not everyone who listens to music is atracted only by artists who do coreographies and wear like clowns, and polute gossip tabloids. I know loads of people who like Norah and Dido simply because their music is amazing, and their taste goes from heavy metal to psy-trance. It´s usually people who only listen to mainstream pop like Rhiana, Beyonce and Britney who think that singers like Norah and Dido are boring, but then it´s doesn´t matter because these people know nothing about music...

I asked you to be constructive, and this is just trying to prolong an argument. Please note my post above.

Thank you.

Bit of a silly thing to say really,

Becuase someone listens to Beyonce, it means they know nothing about music?

And did I criticize him? Read my post again, I just think it´s ironic that anyone who is a fan of Robbie Williams can criticize other singer for being boring, since Robbie´s big worldwide hits have been big love ballads... I´m not denying he make some good stuff in the past, but just because he has "upbeat" songs doesn´t make him musically superior to someone who makes chilled music. Rudebox might not be apropriate for dinner parties, which doesn´t make it superior to songs that are played on dinner parties, and it doesn´t matter if it is upbeat, it´s melodical and lyrical poorness is what makes it boring to me... Otherwise 90% of classic music would be despised as "boring", because the song are not upbeat and are not apropriated to be played on clubs and on MTV´s shows.

There are many things you can say about Robbie but boring certainly is'nt one of them, ESPECIALLY if you are defending music so samey and bland. The majority of Robbie's singles have NOT been ballads, so just because Angels and Feel and they are his two biggest songs (worldwide), does'nt mean the rest of his material is the same. Rudebox is $h!t, but it is a p*** take, not meant to be taken seriousl. Just a bit of fun. God forbid. Robbie, wether you like him or not, you can't deny how many different types and styles of music he has done throughout his carear, whilst every Dido song I have heard sounds exactly the same. It is not the sort of music I like, not because it may well sell millions. That has nothing to do with it. It bores me. I like divercity and variety when listening to an album, not the same tone all the way through, like you are listening to one long song. That is MY opinion like I stated in my first post, and then you had to start a big arguement and bring Robbie and Anastacia into the equation when this thread has nothing to do with them. Why?

This thread is to discuss Norah Jones, not a thread of 'my artist is better than your artist'. -_-

Indeed it isn't! Which is why I posted above about constructive criticism.

Please can you all observe it ^_^

I am observing it as I type :P

I will say nothing further. ^_^

I fail to understand why so many people on here hate Dido - and now Norah Jones. Dido has proved herself to be very credible and an EXCELLENT singer/songwriter. I have to say I agree with Janet Jackson's Nipple here...

Not really a fan of Norah though.

HITS: KEEPING UP WITH JONES

Norah Nears 350k Mark, With McPhee at 100k, Celtic Women Up Next

January 31, 2007

It took a month, but things are picking up out there in record retail land.

Let’s just hope it’s Not Too Late. Which just happens to be the name of Norah Jones’ eagerly awaited third album for Blue Note, and it hasn’t come a moment too soon not just for EMI, but for the entire business. Based on one-day sales from retailers still solvent around the country indicate the album could go as high as 350k, and maybe even higher considering it’s an upper-demo title. The disc had already broken the pre-order sales record at Amazon.com with between 35-40k.

To me they sound pretty much the same. Just really slow inoffensive ballads and nothing else. It's just not my cup of tea. I certainly wouldnt call Dido an excellent songwriter, she is talented yes, but her songs all sound the same to me. I just don't see the appeal tbh.

Anyway, back to Norah's sales.

I agree ^_^

McPhee should be outselling her 10-1 :smoke:

Because people prefer artists who switch genres and producers after each flop... And again, these people who listen only to performatic artists know NOTHING about music, and everything who doesn´t have a coreography or is manufactured by some giant producer of the pop scene is considered bland. They would all be happy if Dido or Norah Jones hired Timbaland, Pharell, The Matrix, Guy Chambers, Linda Perry, Scott Storch, or Xenomania to produce their new music, instead of doing it by themselves. They want a mixbag with a Scott Storch ballad, a Pharell or Timbaland r´n´b song, a chick rock track by The Matrix and a big ballad by Guy Chambers, then mix it all together in one CD and call it "masterpiece" and aplauds the artists as being "diverse", when in fact the record is nothing more then a Now! compilation which happens to have the same vocalist on every track. In the end, it means nothing, because Linda Perry, Guy Chambers, The Matrix, Timbaland will be remembered in the future as sucessful songwrites and producers, hitmakers like we remember Stock, Aitken and Waterman from the 80´s, and the artists who did only dance and put their voices to the "diverse" material will be shadows like Jason Donovan, Rick Astley and Sonia. People will always remember artists who make their own thing, not artists who just go with what´s hot and chance producers to better suit the charts taste, that´s why Pink Floyd is still important today and Boney M are nothing.

Anyone here actually bought it though and what do you think? Seen it advertised on TV.
