Posted September 19Sep 19 World of S Club has been sharing some classic Seeing Double era performances in a mission to finally convince S Club's team to release a vinyl of their final album!https://www.instagram.com/p/DdY43RnxHiM/How familiar are you with Seeing Double? Did its poor chart performance taint it for you? Let's revisit what I believe is their most mature record, and certainly one of the most underrated pop albums I've heard!
September 19Sep 19 Sadly as a 10/11 year old who was yet to get his first paper round in order to earn his own money Also being a middle child of 7 from a family that didnt really have a lot of money, i very rarely got cds, vhs etc outside of christmas so my knowledge of S club albums mostly came from the tv series, and them being repeated constantly on Cbbc (however Viva S club didnt get a fraction of the repeats as the other 3 series) Outside of the 2 singles and the Sunny D Promotional Hey kitty kitty CD i dodnt really discover it properly until years later That being said it is definitely an underrated album that would of easily given them more longevity if they pushed it but we all know they were basically just biding time to get the movie out so they could split due to exhaustion
September 21Sep 21 An underappreciated and underrated album from them for sure. It would be my second or third favourite of theirs.
October 1Oct 1 Here's my track by track review for the albumAlive - 9/10Solid disco-tinged dance pop track that provides a strong opening for the album and sets the tone perfectly. However, when compared to their previous it does feel a little to close to ‘Don’t Stop Movin’, but as a track on here, it’s a firm highlight.Whole Lotta Nothin’ - 8/10Slick R&B pop number with smooth harmonies and solid melodies.Love Ain’t Gonna Wait for You - 10/10Brilliant track and one of the album’s strongest standouts. The throbbing beats, the disco strings, electro bassline, and unrelenting production captures that classic S Club 7 sound perfectly yet with a more mature edge.Bittersweet – 6/10A sultry R&B pop track with slinky beats and rich vocal layering but doesn’t do that much for me to be honest and finds that it just kinda blends into the background.Straight From the Heart – 7/10Solid mid-tempo pop track with soft beats that showcases the group’s vocal interplay.Gangsta Love – 5/10An interesting and earnest attempt at an urban flavoured sound. Doesn’t really work for me though and its definitely one of the weaker moments on here.Who Do You Think You Are – 9/10Thankfully this album gets back on track with this catchy club ready track. The driving bassline, catchy chorus, and stellar production make this one of the finest numbers on here.Do It Till We Drop – 8/10Funky, catchy, and fast paced dance pop. This has a great high tempo energy running throughout it.Hey Kitty Kitty – 7/10Playful, quirky, and quite modern. A fun electro pop number that shows an interesting side to the group. Not sure if it quite fits on here though, but still good though.Dance – 10/10One of my personal faves on here and this could have easily been a single. The stripped back beats, electronic groove, and stylish robotic production give this a mature energy for the group.Secret Love – 5/10Smooth and romantic mid-tempo pop track that offers a nice breath of fresh air to the previous uptempo numbers but doesn’t really stand out and feels more like a filler moment. The Greatest – 7/10Anthemic and emotionally soaring with mature vocal control. Solid little number. In Too Deep – 6/10A sleek and atmospheric album cut that showcases the boy’s vocals nicely and keeps the momentum steadily going until the next number.Let Me Sleep – 10/10The perfect closer (on the standard edition). Gentle, dreamy, bittersweet, and utterly captivating mid-tempo ballad that builds beautifully into a sweeping chorus. One of the group’s finest efforts and could have made an incredible single instead of a stunning hidden gem in their discography. Edited October 8Oct 8 by Nina West
