Posted Tuesday at 13:022 days The Pet Shop Boys — Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe — emerged from London’s mid‑80s electronic scene and quickly became one of the UK’s most successful and enduring pop acts. Their breakthrough single West End Girls hit No.1 worldwide, setting the tone for a career defined by cool detachment, witty lyricism, and lush electronic production. Across four decades, they’ve balanced chart‑friendly pop with art‑pop ambition, producing hits like It’s a Sin, Always on My Mind, Go West, and Being Boring. Their work often explores themes of urban life, desire, politics, class, and queer identity, delivered through Tennant’s deadpan vocals and Lowe’s minimalist synth architecture. They’ve released more than a dozen Top 10 albums, written a musical, collaborated with everyone from Dusty Springfield to Liza Minnelli, and maintained a reputation for reinvention without losing their signature sound. Today, they’re regarded as both pop icons and critical darlings, with a legacy that bridges club culture, high art, and mainstream success. Did we see them coming? Well certainly not in 1984 when the first Pet Shop Boys single was released but over the next thirty years or so they were a chart regular providing us with a mighty four chart toppers and 23 top 10 singles in their own name not to mention penning hits for other acts. So it would be a sin not to do a rate of their songs and below you will find a list of the “hits” (i.e top 100 peaking singles) that they have scored or have penned. It shows the vast breadth of their songwriting skills and serves as a reminder of when the top 10 was never safe from a PSB track. They may struggle to ever make the top 10 again but that won’t detract from the time when they ruled the roost and created an enviable legacy which they can look back on with pride…….and left to their own devices they probably would. Anyway most of you will be familiar with at least 75% without a listen (I get a bit vague after about 2003 with the exception of a few) so hopefully not to many "new" songs to become frequented with!

We used to see the bottom of so many charts/rates and not the interesting bits!I will take part in this, nice idea, picking the one 11 is the hard part but I know what I’m giving it to.

I’m also a bit sad we don’t have some of their later singles - in particular The Pop Kids, Vocal, Loneliness and Feel; all of which I love.
