Posted Saturday at 13:065 days In a perfect world, what would your Music run of singles have been, particularly starting with the third single?I think WHAT!!! is one of her best ever sangs, as is the video, but the prudes at the time banned it - but allowed all manner of male videos... So, it got banned from tv and radio due to sexist prudism, and then barely even reached top 30 in the charts - I think it got #39 for one week, and that was it. With a pg - rated p for prude - video alongside, it could have been a top 3!But... was it the correct third single? Madonna wanted Perfect Instant and Warner wanted Beautiful Stranger (the no.1 that never was) P2 with Amazing. Madonna found out, removed Amazing from all her sets so they couldn't make a video, and we got neither as a fourth single.Which would you have released?I would have done:AmazingWHATPerfect InstantLeaving the two big, less commercial, dance tracks for last, after a run of three pop tracks perfect for radio and tv. Monday at 15:562 days It got to #7, not #39! Which I think is reasonable for a 3rd single from an album that sold so much already, particularly over Christmas.I think 'Impressive Instant' is by far and away the album's highlight, I would've liked to see them chance it with a single although it's risky and not remotely commercially friendly - but then she was in the phase back then were she could get top 10 with pretty much anything. I'm just glad she put her foot down and never allowed 'Amazing' to happen, it's so poor.
Monday at 16:092 days Amazing is an inferior Beautiful Stranger and had no right being a single (even if I bop) x Music Don't Tell Me What It Feels Like For a Girl Impressive Instant Feels like the obvious choice. In an ideal world though, Madonna would be giving the gays and theys what they really want, Paradise (Not for Me) 🖤
