'Starburster', 'Favourite' and 'Bug' were all slow burning sleeper hits (as was the 'Romance' album as a whole which had a really impressive chart run for an indie/rock album) so their next new album was always bound to have quite an emphatic debut!

I don’t normally like music like this but I quite like

Fontaines DC! It was actually Mobland what made me delve in with Starburster being the Mobland theme song 😅 (and that’s a show I’d not normally watch as well but Dame Helen Mirren playing an Irish gun wielding gangster had me sold)!

Taylor might very well be #1 again on official charts thanks to physical sales.. at least Housewife is stalling on AM (#13).

It seems like some of the new entries have already started falling a bit on Apple. Marianne went from 10 to 14, expectations went from 12 to 16, Housewife has gone from 13 to 18

think that might just be an issue with whatever you're using to look at the Apple Music charts - Marianne's up to #8, expectations (Remix) is #10 and Housewife is #11 on the app atm

update: I've just checked and Kworb is lagging behind at the minute so that might be where the discrepancy came from

Hopefully it can be the top charting ‘Marianne’ in chart history next week beating The Hilltoppers

It’ll be interesting to see how it performs worldwide. Sleep Token are probably the bigger band worldwide, but Fontaines are definitely the biggest young-ish band in the UK/Ireland.

Linkin Park’s recent album was huge too worldwide, but that’s obviously a bit different with their legacy. Still very impressive though.

It’ll be interesting to see how the next album by Geese does too.

Globally, I would nominate The Marías. Currently, they have 15 songs with over 100k streams daily on Spotify. Submarine has gone platinum in the US which is a great feat for a new alternative album.

correct me if I’m wrong, but if Marianne goes top ten, I think that would be Fontaines only the 2nd rock band to get their first top ten single in the entirety of the 2020s decade, following Sleep Token.

Maybe in America but I couldn’t name you a Maria’s song. (I know they were on a Beabadoobee track earlier this year). Maybe it’s just how I consume music though. And I’ve no idea how big they are in America.
