Jamie Miller becomes the first male solo artist to reach No.1 since Harry Styles in March, stepping up to the summit with his debut hit, Babydoll.

Consumption surges 38.27% week-on-week to 47,548 units (5,906 digital downloads and 41,642 sales-equivalent streams) following the release of a duet version of the track, featuring American singer and actor Antonio Cipriano

First coming to notice as a finalist on The Voice UK in 2017, 29-year-old Miller, from Cardiff, released several singles without success before Babydoll, which he co-wrote with Australian singer/songwriter Hayley Warner and American songwriter Michael Blum, who also co-produced the track for him.

Moving 84-67-46-24-8-6-3-2-1, Babydoll reaches No.1 after climbing the Top 75 for seven weeks in a row (the Top 100 for eight weeks in a row), becoming the first song to have such a sustained rise without pausing or falling along the way since 2019/2020, when Tones And I’s debut hit Dance Monkey rose 82-60-48-40-31-19-14-7-1. Dance Monkey went on to spend 11 weeks at No.1 and is the 27th biggest hit of the 21st century with to-date consumption of 4,521,183 units.

Miller is the 10th solo artist born in Wales to have a No.1 single, 18 years after the last woman (Duffy) and 20 years after the last man (Chico). He is the sixth male solo star born in the principality to top the chart following Ricky Valence (1960), Tom Jones (1965), Dave Edmunds (1970), Shakin’ Stevens (1981) and Chico (2006). Shirley Bassey (1959), Mary Hopkin (1968), Bonnie Tyler (1983) and Duffy (2008) make up the female solo contingent.

The only all-Welsh group to have a No.1 are Amen Corner (1969). Spencer Davis, from Swansea, had two consecutive No.1 singles in 1966, leading the eponymous Spencer Davis Group, with 17-year-old Steve Winwood (from Birmingham) on lead vocals.

Tate McRae’s highest charting hits hitherto – You Broke Me First (2020), Greedy (2023) and Sports Car (2025) – all peaked at No.3. Housewife, the first new song from her upcoming fourth album, surpasses them all, making its debut at No.2 this week (46,992 sales). McRae’s 20th Top 75 single and ninth Top 10 entry, it is the highest of 10 debuts on the Top 75, and also sparks a 39.84% week-on-week increase in consumption of her current album, So Close To What, which rebounds 54-29 (3,603 sales), achieving its highest position for 28 weeks.

While Cipriano’s assist on Jamie Miller’s No.1 doesn’t earn him a joint artist credit on the chart, Chappell Roan’s name is added to the credits of Olivia Rodrigo’s new hit, Expectations, which explodes 35-3 (45,822 sales) this week. Normal convention is that once a song reaches the Top 40 its artist credit is frozen. This rule hasn’t been applied for Expectations, which becomes Rodrigo’s 12th Top 10 single and Roan’s sixth, and whose change of credit was approved eight days ago, before it made the Top 40, but too late to be processed for last week’s chart.

For the record, however, streaming and digital sales of Expectations are higher for the duet version, whilst on Babydoll the solo version remains more popular. The duet version of Expectations is also the lead track on 7-inch and CD versions of the single, which contribute 3,570 and 2,599 sales, respectively.

Only 1,726 sales separate the top three – the lowest figure so far this year.

Country star Zach Bryan scores his first Top 10 single with Lies (No.7, 22,362 sales), a song from his new EP, Young Manhood And Other Donatable Organs. It also features Lana Del Rey who thus marks the 15th anniversary of her chart debut by scoring her 31st Top 75 and seventh Top 10 entry. Two solo tracks from the EP also chart further down – Lodi When (No.33, 10,380 sales) and Robot Killed The Working Man (No.45, 8,006 sales) – raising Bryan’s tally of Top 75 entries to 12, and Top 40 hits to five.

After three weeks at No.1, the last two of which were heavily reliant on CD sales, Patient Zero slides to No.10 (19,891 sales) for Taylor Swift. No CD sales were detected this week but it sold 194 copies of two 7-inch variants with, presumably, more to come.

The rest of the Top 10: Stop The Wedding! (3-4, 33,040 sales) by Ashe, Great Expectation (4-5, 29,225 sales) by Sienna Spiro, Choosin’ Texas (7-6, 23,072 sales) by Ella Langley, Nicole Kidman (5-8, 22,205 sales) by Adéla and The Cure (8-9, 19,999 sales) by Olivia Rodrigo.

Exiting the Top 10: Rein Me In (9-11, 18,618 sales) by Sam Fender & Olivia Dean, My Body Isn’t Ready (10-13, 17,265 sales) by Sombr and ACR casualty Boston (6-28, 11,343 sales) by Stella Lefty.

Fontaines DC have their second No.1 album with Dopamine Chamber, and from it secure the three highest single chart positions of their career. Having previously peaked at No.19 – their highest placing hitherto – Marianne surges 41-12 (18,600 sales) this week, and is joined in the Top 20 by Japan (No.14, 16,916 sales) and Demolition (No.18, 15,695 sales).

The other eight tracks on the album are ‘starred-out’ between No.18 and No.41, under primary artist rules. The band has now had 11 Top 75 entries, five of them from Dopamine Chamber. Their introductory hit Starburster (747,208 sales) – No.57 in 2024 – is their most-consumed track, with Favourite (No.64, 2004, 719,673 sales) and uncharted 2022 song I Love You (672,301 sales) also certified platinum.

Electronic music breakthrough acts in 2026, Irish DJ Kettama and Leeds duo Prospa have joined forces for Think Of You. Debuting at No.25 (11,833 sales), it is the second hit for Kettama and the fourth for Prospa.

Also new to the Top 75: Flower In A Hurricane (No.31, 10,945 sales), a collaboration between Justice, Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) from the soundtrack of upcoming videogame Grand Theft Auto VI, delivering French duo Justice’s fourth hit (first since 2011) Tame Impala’s seventh, SZA’s 30th and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s first; Impulse (No.56, 6,942 sales), the first hit for 22-year-old American hip-hop artist Thekidszn; and Coming Up Roses (77-59, 6,871 sales), the fifth hit from Harry Styles’ album Kiss All The Time: Disco, Occasionally, and his 50th hit in total (including 29 with One Direction).

Unethical (50-47, 7,760 sales) reaches a new peak for Faouzia.

Last year, we saw a record tally of eight Halloween-related titles in the Top 40. With the day (night) still more than a week away, the first undead revival is Thriller, which reached a new peak of No.9 for Michael Jackson last year, and now returns at No.39 (9,320 sales).

Featured in the newly released fourth season of Netflix streaming hit, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and the musical backdrop to numerous recent TikTok videos, Bronski Beat’s 1984 No.3 hit Smalltown Boy is a re-entry at No.71 (6,037 sales).

Overall singles consumption is up 0.11% week-on-week to 29,600,331 units, 2.84% below same week 2025 sales of 30,465,054 units. Paid-for sales are down 7.91% week-on-week at 249,697, 0.13% below same week 2025 sales of 250,017.

Scorching to the highest sales of any album for 18 weeks – and the highest by a group since Coldplay’s Moon Music in 2024 – Fontaines DC’s fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, debuts at No.1 on consumption of 70,105 units (14,235 CDs, 37,501 vinyl albums, 1,796 cassettes, 1,479 digital downloads and 15,094 sales-equivalent streams).

It is the second No.1 for the rock quintet formed in Dublin 12 years ago, who comprise 31-year-old lead singer Grian Chatten, 32-year-old guitarist Conor Curley, 33-year-old bass guitarist Conor Deegan, 32-year-old drummer Tom Coll and 32-year-old guitarist Carlos O’Connell. The first four are founder members of the group, with O’Connor joining in 2016. All are credited with co-writing every song on the album.

Dopamine Chamber secures the highest weekly sale yet for an album by the band, surpassing the 43,034 units their last album, Romance sold when it debuted and peaked at No.2 in 2024 – more than doubling their previous best of 19,983 units their third album, Skinty Fia, achieved when it opened at No.1 in 2022.

Both previous Fontaines DC studio albums also made the Top 10, with 2019 debut Dogrel opening and peaking at No.9 on consumption of 7,197 units, and follow-up, A Hero’s Death, placing second on 19,040 units as it opened its account in 2020.

Despite missing out on No.1, Romance is the band’s most-consumed album with a to-date tally of 350,882 units, followed by Skinty Fa (206,493 units), Dogrel (145,172 units), and A Hero’s Death (95,774 units). They also charted 2021 concert recording Live At Kilmainham Gaol, which reached No.42, and has to-date consumption of 4,184 units.

Based in London, Fontaines DC self-identify as Irish. Chatten was born in Cumbria, while guitarist O’Connell was born in Madrid. Chatten moved to Ireland when a month old, while O’Connell, of mixed Spanish and Irish heritage, relocated to Ireland aged 18.

Dopamine Chamber is the 52nd No.1 album by a band from the Irish Republic, and the third so far this year, emulating earlier efforts from Dermot Kennedy and Niall Horan. It secures the highest weekly sale of an album by an act from the Irish Republic since 2010, when The Script’s Science & Faith achieved a slightly higher introductory tally of 70,816 units.

The only albums to open bigger than Dopamine Chamber in 2026 are Kiss All The Time: Disco, Occasionally (183,045 units) by Harry Styles and You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love (102,814 units) by Olivia Rodrigo.

Romance’s failure to reach No.1, by the way, was because it was scheduled against Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet. It is exactly four years (208 weeks) since any other album – namely The Car by Arctic Monkeys – had a higher first week sale than Romance and didn’t debut at No.1.

In a Top 10 where the remainder of the titles together achieved only 301 units more consumption than Dopamine Chamber managed on its own, Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love is its (distant) nearest challenger, rebounding 3-2, a 16-week high, with consumption climbing 19.66% week-on-week to 13,053.

Building on the success of her 2024 debut album, What A Devastating Turn Of Events, which peaked at No.17 and has sold 25,845 copies, 27-year-old London singer/songwriter Rachel Chinouriri’s second album, I Think I Spoke Too Soon, opens at No.9 (5,934 sales)

The rest of the Top 10: The Essential (4-3, 9,675 sales) by Michael Jackson, The Art Of Loving (5-4, 8,056 sales) by Olivia Dean, Visitor (6-5, 7,748 sales) by Sienna Spiro, 50 Years: Don’t Stop (7-6, 7,073 sales) by Fleetwood Mac, The Highlights (10-7, 6,884 sales) by The Weeknd, Time Flies: 1994-2009 (8-8, 6,157 sales) by Oasis and The Ones That Got The Plays (15-10, 5,825 sales) by Katy Perry.

After debuting at No.1 last week, Ghosts (100 Days Of Morning) tumbles to No.170 (1,332 sales) for Jamie T.

Also exiting the Top 10: Generic Everything (2-104, 1,784 sales) by Chase & Status, and She’s The Best (9-194, 1,215 sales) by Troye Sivan.

Nine months after delivering his 25-song No.3 studio album, With Heaven On Top, fecund country star Zach Bryan has dropped new eight-song EP Young Manhood And Other Donatable Organs. Including the new Lana Del Rey hit collaboration Lies, it debuts at No.11 (5,742 sales) becoming his fourth Top 75 album chart entry.

Previously in Fairport Convention and in a duo with former wife Linda, folk/rock singer/songwriter Richard Thompson has been a solo recording artist since 1972, but failed to make the album chart in that capacity until 1991. Comprising 12 new songs, all written entirely by the 77-year-old, his 20th solo chart and 15th solo chart entry Hippies, Thugs And Heroes debuts at No.40 (2,836 sales).

Also new to the Top 75: How Long Will It Take (No.31, 3,393 sales), the first full-length album by 23-year-old singer/songwriter Nieve Ella, from Shropshire; and No Bad Memories (No.60, 2,278 sales), the fourth album/chart entry for Australian electronic music trio, The Avalanches.

No.1 when first released in 1989, Tears For Fears’ third album, The Seeds Of Love, recharted at No.13 in 2020, when released in a 30th anniversary super deluxe edition, and is back again this week at No.19 (4,167 sales), following the release of another expanded edition across multiple formats.

The very first No.1 by an act from Northern Ireland, Ash’s 1996 album 1977 has been remastered and expanded, hence its first chart appearance in 25 years at No.26 (3,713 sales).

The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack secures a 61st week at No.1 on the compilation chart (2,764 sales, including 274 Yoto cards, 12 CDs, nine vinyl albums, 13 digital downloads and 2,456 sales-equivalent streams).

Overall album sales are up 0.85% week-on-week to 2,432,888 units, 5.67% below same week 2025 sales of 2,579,239. Physical product accounts for 333,376 sales, 13.70% of the total.

Music week got them self confused lol

Nice to see 12" 1987 part 2 at number 3 on the compilation chart despite it not having a digital equivalent. I reckon it might have gone at least number 2 if it had a digital equivalent. Now need to stop this nonsense on deciding which albums of their to make available on download and which ones not to make available on download. They should just give all their albums a digital equivalent like they used to

Stereophonics' drummer on 'Dakota' was Argentinian, so they weren't an all-Welsh group. There shouldn't be an issue with the Manics though...

Odd that only 194 7" vinyl of "Patient Zero" were reported to the OCC this week. Even, without them, the #10 spot would have been for the track, unless they thought it could fell out of the Top 10, so they reported that quantity to secure that spot. That's the only explanation I could find to be honest.

As the Music Week article implies, more to come should be reported in the upcoming weeks because I, personally, doubt this is total of 7" vinyl Taylor Swift has sold of this track in the UK. That said, it will be interesting to see how many she has sold and whether UMG held them back to secure another week in the Top 10 or not.

Why would't Taylor report all her vinyl? It could have stayed in the top 5 instead of going 1-10 if that was the case

She probably only cares if it would have kept her at #1.

Great to see Sienna's sales keep increasing still on SCR (I'm guessing the CD's will be added this week)

Ahhh so CLOSE for Tate (She's just launched a competition to win a signed merch bundle when you buy 'Housewife' on any format including the digital store download so that should help next week (Genuinely think she would have done it this week if they'd done it last week)

Not a fan of Babydoll but great sales and he worked so hard pushing so credit where it's due!

Olivia / Chappel sold decent physicals in the end then it was down to it dropping on streaming throughout the week.

I think the CDs have been added going off the physical sales chart, she just didn't sell enough to make a bigger impact

Ahh I guess that's why her sales are a bit higher this week then. I wasn't expecting her to sell thousands but maybe 1k ish.

OCC and BBC wrongly reporting last male solo chart topper was Shaky. Poor Chico!

Not sure why Alan thinks the duet version of Babydoll only just came out.
