The release of The Singles Collection is almost upon us.

Launched amidst a huge viral attention moment, following a short teaser that somehow lead people to believe a full on return was about to announce, the Singles Collection did receive initial meh reactions. Nonetheless, it has been heavily promoted with various 'Spice Vault' postings and adverts online. It was also heavily promoted across the press, with huge media attention given to it, which is quite rare for what is essentially a Collectors' release.

Of course, it is the most expansive and comprehensive release from the Spice Girls since the Greatest Hits in 2007, including a total of 160 tracks across its CD and Vinyl boxsets and the digital release - available to buy as well as stream.

It includes some tracks that have never been released before - although I think we have all heard them before including the demos of Mama, Love Thing and 2 Become 1 (if they are the same as the ones which leaked recently) - and some we have access to but have never been released either, such as radio and TV-promo only mixes, instrumentals, etc.

It has sold out in a few places but then quickly replaced, and it doesn't seem like it is a limited release at all as previously announced.

The main issues here - beyond the fact that this is clearly a Collectors' edition and not a full fledge new album or reunion from the group - seem to be:

1. The price tags. The cheapest edition goes for around £100 (the digital one and the CD), which is very high for most people to invest in. If you were to buy all 3 available editions, you would be spending around £400 easily, not including shipping.

2. The very clear lack of interest/support from the individual members of the group itself. While the group's official communication has been extensive and expansive, not a single member has liked or even shared any of it. In fact, one of them even showed scorn about the release on one of the USA's biggest TV shows, reducing it to a 'vinyl release' that she wasnt interested it.

YET they seem to not have any issue with sharing and supporting the brand partnerships such as that awful Dunkin Pumpkin Spice Late promo and the UNO announcement.

So... it is definitely a bit of a devisive release in Spiceworld, yet again!

But where do you think it will land in the UK main charts? or any of the more specific charts? And why?

And do you see it charting anywhere else? I can see them charting in Ireland and Spain but not sure on the rest lol...

(also this is quite a nice new promo video!)

Personally I think (hope) it will go into the lower end of the Top40 at the very least and will go out of the chart in the following week.

But I am expecting it to not even chart at all lol...

Still pissed me off their ruined Spiceworld 25’s chance of Top 10 re-entry when they followed up Spice25 with those crap editions that are still unsold to this day lol.

With the CDs £99, Download £99 and Vinyl £183 I’d be shocked if it shifted enough to chart.

Sales from last week for various positions -

#40 - 2,836

#60 - 2,278

#104 - 1,784

#170 - 1,332

#194 - 1,215

I’d be impressed if it has that much of interest to sell 2.8k+ copies to challenge for a Top 40, maybe I’m really underestimating it?

It seems like it would have gone Top10 if the CD hadn't been delayed. They just should have also delayed the vinyls lol but yeah the lackluster design and featured content was such a turn off... also none of the girls supported it either from what I remember.

This is a different situation though.

Yeah I am not sure either... I also don't know if streams will count towards this or the GH and/or respective singles EPs... it's a bit confusing since technically there is no The Singles Collection album on streaming platforms, so I guess only the actual sales will count??...

The #10 album sold 5,340 copies in the week that 'Spiceworld 25' charted at #46 with 2,257 copies (so it was 3,083 copies behind Top 10).

The CD sold 1,196 when it was eventually released 6 weeks later (1,532 copies overall with all other sales included, re-entering at #105).

'Spice 25' CD only sold 1,464 copies in release week and that was without a delay, so it doesn't seem that Spiceworld 25 was likely to sell much more if it had been released on time!

If we were to assume that 'Spiceworld 25' would have sold 1,196 CDs six weeks earlier, alongside the download/vinyl/cassette/streaming, then 2,257 + 1,196 = 3,453 copies. That would have seen the album re-enter at #22 instead of #46 (#22 sold 3,441). #20 sold 3,553, #21 sold 3,480. Maybe if the CD's release had coincided with the "hype" of the initial release week, then maaaaybe we would have been looking at a Top 20 re-entry. Which would have looked more pleasing than #46 of course... but I think we'd have all still been a bit thinking at going from #5 to 'Spice 25' to potentially scraping the Top 20 with 'Spiceworld'?

I still think their team was pretty foolish to look at how 'Spice 25' performed (largely because of the 5 individual vinyl) and seemingly thought "Ok! Let's not do that for Spiceworld!" - lol.

As for the question at hand about the box sets, I'm really unsure of what to predict for it! Everyone seemed "nocheer" about it, but maybe those that weren't interested were just being louder than the people hurriedly putting in their card details to buy their copies lol.

What I do know is that my finances haven't been looking so healthy since I pre-ordered them 🤪

I think if it even made low Top 100 then that would be very decent for a release like this. Also I think it would depend on whether the Official Charts Company allocates the streaming data that usually goes towards Greatest Hits onto The Singles Collection instead. That would bump it up by a few hundred copies!

I stand corrected on the suggestion that Spiceworld25 would have gone Top10... but yes it was so badly handled and didn't help that the girls themselves did f*** all for it as well. The backlash about the lack of proper incentives, the quality of the CD2 tracks and the design was quite fierce, and some fans were properly put off by it.

I was thinking about the streams and I am not sure they will count to this, specially as the EPs are all divided on Spotify and not as part of a The Singles Collection album on there, which seemingly wont be available on streaming?...

So yeah, hopefully Top100 and agree that it wouldn't be so bad for a release like this, specially because of the price tags.
