Posted January 30, 200719 yr Mika on course for second week at number one Source: Music week Yesterday’s physical release of Grace Kelly should be sufficient to keep Mika atop the singles chart this week, according to retail reports. The Casablanca/Island-released single sold over 10,000 physical copies yesterday, more than enough to keep its nearest competitor, Fall Out Boy (Mercury) from the top spot. Bloc Party’s The Prayer (Wichita) also looks set to rise into the top three, with Fray’s How to Save A Life (Epic) climbing into the Top 10 almost a month before the single is given its physical release. Kasabian’s Me Plus One (Columbia) looks likely to be the highest new entry in the top 20, with other potential climbers coming from Kelis feat. Cee-Lo (Virgin), Nas feat. Will.i.am (Columbia) and Bowling For Soup (A&G Productions). Take That’s next single Shine, scheduled for physical release through Polydor on February 26, also looks likely to make an appearance in the Top 40 based on download sales. In the albums market, Klaxons’ debut Myths Of The Near Future (Rinse) is in contention for the number one spot alongside Jamie T’s Panic Prevention (Virgin), with The View’s Hats Off To The Buskers likely to drop to number three. Other possible new entries in the Top 10 will come from Norah Jones (Blue Note), Just Jack (Mercury), Madonna’s Confessions Tour live album (Warner Bros) and The Shins’ debut Wincing The Night Away (Transgressive). New albums from Little Man Tate (V2), Josh Groban (Reprise), Doris Day (Sony BMG), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (Wichita), Alkaline Trio (Vagrant) and Eddie Reader (Rough Trade) all threaten to give the Top 75 a post-Christmas shake-up. ================================================================= Singles 01 Mika - Grace Kelly (21k) 02 Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene, Its An Arms Race (8.8k) 03 Bloc Party - The Prayer (8.4k) Top 10 The Fray - How To Save A Life Top 20 Kasabian - Me Plus One **Physical** Top 25/40 Kelis feat. January 30, 200719 yr I think the interesting thing to watch today is not IF Mika is still No.1 (that is pretty much a given) but how much the physical release shifts. I remember Gnarls last year sold 30,000 on download at No.1 then sold 200,000 in the first week of physicals. In todays climate, its unlikely Mika will manage such a jump.
January 30, 200719 yr Whilst you're waiting why not vote YES for Avril Lavigne's Forum? :D Needs 10 more votes. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26757 Oh and as for the chart it will be very interesting to see if Mika can sell a shedload or not - I wouldn't underestimate him - but I really can't see it happening. I'd also expect Fall Out Boy into the top 3 probably #2 and Bloc Party up to lower half of the top 10. I Don't expect much else but maybe Akon or The Fray will climb into the top 10 this week. Albums should be interesting. Norah Jones obv #1 -_- Klaxons & Just Jack will make top 5.
January 30, 200719 yr I'm willing to put some cash on the Klaxons beating Boring Jones. Where's some odds?
January 30, 200719 yr 10,000 isnt too shoddy. Can anyone recall what Gnarls did first day of release?
January 30, 200719 yr I don't care *what* that report says - I refuse point blank to believe that Norah Jones won't end up #1 by Sunday!
January 30, 200719 yr  at NOrah Jones :P For the first seconds I even thought she's releasing next week
January 30, 200719 yr Surprised at Norah Jones. :o I have one of her albums & although it's nice relaxing background music it's all a bit boring & samey. Looks like a lot of people feel the same & the first week sales of her new album will be way down on her other two. Edited January 30, 200719 yr by truly talented
January 30, 200719 yr Author Can anyone recall what Gnarls did first day of release? Just looked, just under 50k (49.6k to be precise) on his first day by the end of the week he sold 194,179
January 30, 200719 yr OOooh I seee that doesn't include downloads  $h!tty Fall Out Boy tho. -_-
January 30, 200719 yr Just looked, just under 50k (49.6k to be precise) on his first day by the end of the week he sold 194,179 Looks like we're not in for a 9-weeker this time round then. Thanks for the figures.
January 30, 200719 yr Author Looks like we're not in for a 9-weeker this time round then. Thanks for the figures. I think he will struggle to get 60k by the end of the week, to be honest, I think The Fray has got potential to become the next #1 before its physical release.
January 30, 200719 yr I think he will struggle to get 60k by the end of the week, to be honest, I think The Fray has got potential to become the next #1 before its physical release. The report says though just over 10k in PHYSICAL? It doesn't say downloads?
