Bloc Party ahead in mid-week album tussle

06 February 2007 - 16:44:32

Its all-out war in the mid-week album charts, with Bloc Party currently topping the pile with second album A Weekend In The City (Wichita), just ahead of Mika’s Life In Cartoon Motion (Island).

Despite the early lead, Mika is likely to sell steadily throughout the week and as opposed to the East London quartet, who are likely to sell more strongly at the beginning of the week.

In the singles chart, Mika continues his massive lead at the top, outselling Fall Out Boy by a margin of nearly three to one. This should give him his fourth reign at the top on Sunday, although sales are already beginning to dip with the release of his album.

There are only four new entries in this week’s Top 75 singles, the highest being Kaiser Chiefs’ Ruby (download only at the moment) at 33. The Long Blondes enter three places below it.

The Fray are currently up five places with their American smash How To Save A Life moving 10-5, while Sophie Ellis Bextor moves 28-14 with dancefloor hit Catch You. Nelly Furtado climbs 20 places to 17 with Say It Right, the fourth single from her Loose album.

Other notable entries in the albums chart include Cold War Kids at 25 with Robbers And Cowards, The Hours’ Narcissus Road at 36 and Bowling For Soup’s The Great Burrito Extortion Case at 44.

Agree that Mika will do the double.Everone seems to be buying the album. Is £6.93 in Asda this week and selling out fast.
Mika will be number one yes, But I dont know if its good because I have only heard four songs (2 of which I liked)

when will you post them?

Probably about 4pm on Sunday afternoon so as not to spoil the JK and Joel show too much.

 now that's an idea

My predictions for now:

1) Mika (1)

2) Fall Out Boy (2)

3) Just Jack (3)

4) Mason (5)

5) Jojo (6)

6) Bloc Party (4)

7) The Fray (10)

8) The View (7)

9) Snoop and Akon (9)

10) Klaxons (8)

Highest 'new entry' will be Jessica Simpson or Kaiser Chiefs around the bottom of the top 20...

I know its frustrating, unfortunately no news as of yet.

yes very strange

i'm very very nervous when i'm waiting for the mids.....

It's always the same, each Tuesday... I drink a lot of beers waiting for the results

Mika #1 in the singles obviously but I think Bloc Party will take the albums. Giving that album it's first listen right now ^_^
I am sure Mika will have a double this week and hopefully so. His album is shockingly good. I love every song and can't stop playing it :o
