Posted February 6, 200718 yr Chart wrongs righted in name of charity Source: Music Week A new website launches today, aiming to exploit new chart rules in the name of charity. The site, www.itshouldhavebeennumber1.co.uk, aims to give singles that missed the top spot a second chance to top the charts. Oasis’ Roll With It, which lost out on the number one slot to Blur’s Country House in the famous Britpop singles battle, is the first single to be given the site’s support. Visitors to the site between now and February 12 will be able to register to receive a reminder to return on February 12 to download the song. Under new chart rules, introduced on January 1, all downloads count towards the singles chart, irrespective of a physical release. All profits generated through sales will go to the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity. The site, which is powered by 7digital, also allows visitors to suggest singles that they would like to see reach the number 1 spot.
February 6, 200718 yr ABSOLULY hate this idea! I hate the 'recycling' of old songs! <_< I hope it totally flops!
February 6, 200718 yr I think it's interesting concept but personally I would rather a song such as 'Don't Look Back In Anger,' return to #1 over 'Country House,' going to #1. I don't think this concept will work yet anyway as it's likely that not enough people will know about it for any artist to get a #1 out of it. However, if it does work and songs from the past that I hate start charting then I won't like this idea at all. Edited February 6, 200718 yr by TheOrdinaryArcticBoy
February 6, 200718 yr Agreed - 'Roll With It' and 'Country House' were both f***ing terrible. Why not track down what was number three?
February 6, 200718 yr im gussing Coldpay will have a go at that 2nd chance after getting beaten by the CRAZY FROG :P Edited February 6, 200718 yr by TheHighRoad
February 6, 200718 yr I put in a recommendation for 'Common People' anyway - I believe they were kept off by Robson and Jerome...
February 6, 200718 yr I put in a recommendation for 'Common People' anyway - I believe they were kept off by Robson and Jerome... Fully agree with that, the best song of the 90's that was
February 6, 200718 yr There's loads of songs I can think of that were robbed of the top spot... from the 80s alone there was Ultravox's 'Vienna', Kate Bush's 'Running up that hill', and Yazoo's 'Only You'. One of the above only got to number 3, though - would that discount them from the running?
February 6, 200718 yr "to give singles that missed the top spot a second chance to top the charts" No! On the Billboard Hot 100 only current hits charting and this is a good thing!
February 6, 200718 yr For f***'s sake - WHY Oasis? I'd like to nominate Natalie Imbruglia's 'Torn', I'd prefer 'Big Mistake' which I like a whole lot more and that too reached #2, but 'Torn' is probably a more wise decision. I can't see this idea working anyway...
February 6, 200718 yr 'Common People,' by Pulp would be a brilliant choice imo as it was such a groundbreaking song and a true classic. :D I think an older track by The Ordinary Boys such as 'Talk Talk Talk,' or 'Week In And Week Out,' should be volunteered even if to only get a bigger sucess than they previously did. :) Edited February 6, 200718 yr by TheOrdinaryArcticBoy
February 6, 200718 yr I recommend any of the following singles: Dee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart Coldplay - In My Place Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy Jan Hammer - Crockett's Theme Ultravox - Vienna Bobby McFerrin - Dont Worry, Be Happy Blur - Song 2
February 6, 200718 yr Ashanti - Only U, i'm sure alot of you don'tlike it but she was robbed of being number one by Elvis whe they re-released his songs, also any sng that got to number 2 while Crazy was number one too.
February 6, 200718 yr Agreed - 'Roll With It' and 'Country House' were both f***ing terrible. Why not track down what was number three? The Original - I Luv U Baby ^_^
February 6, 200718 yr I put in a recommendation for 'Common People' anyway - I believe they were kept off by Robson and Jerome... :o :o :o :o I must do the same, biggest chart injustice ever :( I have also suggested that one ^_^
February 6, 200718 yr Songs that SHOULD of got to #1: Anastacia - Im Outta Love Anastacia - Left Outside Alone Anastacia - You'll Never Be Alone    Charted at fukin #31 though :arrr: Robbie Williams - Feel Robbie Williams - Angels
February 6, 200718 yr Songs that SHOULD of got to #1: Anastacia - Im Outta Love Anastacia - Left Outside Alone Anastacia - You'll Never Be Alone    Charted at fukin #31 though :arrr: Robbie Williams - Feel Robbie Williams - Angels None of those are classics except 'Angels'. I think that would be a deserved number one ^_^ Not now, but back then... I like this idea but like has already been said, I'm sure I'd hate it as soon as a song I absloutely hate makes the top
