Arctics in close chart battle with Beyonce/Shakira

Source: Music Week

Arctic Monkeys and a pairing of Beyonce and Shakira are fighting it out in an extremely-close battle to top this coming Sunday’s singles chart.

Retail reports indicate just a handful of sales are presently separating Domino act Arctic Monkeys’ Brianstorm and the RCA Group-handled Beautiful Liar by Beyonce & Shakira for the top spot after both were physically released this week. One of them looks almost certain to end Interscope/Polydor’s one-week run at one with Timbaland/Nelly Furtado/Justin Tumberlake’s Give It To Me.

Warner Bros’s The Enemy are also benefiting from the new availability of a physical format with their track Away From Here set to climb from its debut chart position of 52 last weekend into the Top 10. The RCA Group’s I Wanna Have Your Babies by Natasha Bedingfield is also expected to move into the Top 10 after being physically released some two weeks after debuting via download-only sales.

Mark Ronson, who has enjoyed chart action as a producer/writer over the past few months with the likes of Lily Allen, Robbie Williams and Amy Winehouse, is poised to become a Top 10 chart star in his own right simultaneously on the singles and albums charts. His Columbia single Stop Me is looking very likely to be the chart’s highest new entry on Sunday, while its parent album Version is one of three albums vying to debut inside the albums top five. Version will be joined on the chart by new entries from the RCA Group’s Avril Lavigne (The Best Damn Thing) and Interscope/Polydor’s Nine Inch Nails (Year Xero) with one of these three new entries expected to replace the Columbia group’s Kings Of Leon at the top of the chart.

Roadrunner’s Porcupine Tree are looking likely to debut in the Top 20 with Fear Of A Blank Planet, while other possible Top 40 new entries could come from Virgin’s Tiesto, Gardar Thor Cortes – signed to independent Believer Music – and Columbia’s Patti Smith.

Back on the singles chart, Infectious/Mushroom act Ash’s brand new single You Can’t Have It All is heading for a Top 20 place, as is Absolute-signed Ocean Colour Scene’s I Told You So. Lower down, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s first Universal single, Weapon Of Choice, is set to debut in the Top 40 this Sunday.

Arctic Monkeys to climb to 3 with Ronson and Timbaland switching positions.

Top 10 climbers for Klaxons (if it's out this week) and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip (future no.1 when people hear it)

Flippin eck! I assumed that was downloads. Still, that's what you get for re-releasing singles.

Bizarre that AM who came to everybodys attention on the net are doing quite badly on downloads...only no 7 on ITunes

9 copies lol...will the downloads or the physicals win??? Is anything big out next week...if not Shaki & Bey will climb to no.1, assuming the Arctics beat them this week

Sorry about the delay guys, other duties ;) It's only a Top 20 so far.

Wow :o Close Battle then this week, i hope its the monkeys, but i think Beyonce and Shakira will hang on tbh.

Ne-yo :puke2: Glad Tasha is Top Ten ^_^

And no surprise that Avril will get the Number 1 album this weekend, deserved also

I think the girls will prevail - physical sales are more frontloaded than downloads, so AM's best chance was to be ahead initially. Also, B&S will benefit ftom the urban climb factor (urban singles selling more strongly later in the week).

Yep, i think B&S will hold on as surely Arctic Monkeys fans will have all rushed to the shops on Monday to buy all 3 formats? Also Beautiful Liar is increasing on Itunes whereas AM are falling

Mark Ronson will probably overtake The Enemy to the top 5

Pleased at Avril Lavigne in albums

Hope B/S can hang on to it :D

And very glad the Avril Album is number 1 - does that mean all her albums have made number 1?
