May 28, 200718 yr When did your family arrive from Russia Craig? 1948 :) before I was born ;)
May 28, 200718 yr Guessed it would have been around then. I always wanted some exotic history but every side of my family is Scottish. No matter how many generations I go back I just find Scottish ancestors. -_-

No matter how many generations I go back I just find Scottish ancestors. -_- Yeah my parents and grand parents were Lithuanian jews and my parents and some of their family fled Lithuania during the war although my grand parents were not so lucky and were killed by the Germans and through a long trek through various means ended up in France and then after the war settled in England in 1948 and there ever since :) As Lithuania was annexed by the Russians early in the war I am technically Russian as well as Lithuanian and UK and I also have some Polish, Belarussian and Kaliningrad Oblast blood in me too lol so am very multi cultural in my bloodline
May 28, 200718 yr Have you ever been back? Only the once I have been to Lithuania but would like to go again sometime :) never seen graves of my grandparents etc so sometime would like to yes
May 28, 200718 yr Yes. I'd be right there with my map and guidebook. It would be very emotional though, I think. What was the German name for Kaliningrad? That's the enclave isn't it? Wasn't it originally German/Prussian?

Konigsburg I think it was called, 99% sure But yeah one day I am determined to go to Lithuania and visit the family areas and burial sites, would be a powerful experience Edited May 28, 200718 yr by Vic Vega

May 28, 200718 yr You should remind people that Tony Blair is Scottish. I could have sworn he was American :kink:
May 31, 200718 yr I always call myself Welsh, but really im a little bit of everything, im a cultural wasteland
May 31, 200718 yr I always call myself British. English gives people a bad impression of yourself, and the image that comes to my mind when I say "England" to myself is chavs, graffiti, hooligans and just vileness. I'll always be British, me. ^_^
June 1, 200718 yr what i've noticed is if you make an effort to speak the language even if its all wrong the locals will appreciate that. plus you break the stereotype of the loutish ignorant lager drinking image of brits abroad that make no effort to speak in a foreign language. all you have to do is write a few common phrases/questions down and use them to communicate you might not understand whats being said back to you  but at least you tried!! when i went to france they were really friendly cause i tried to communicate in french with them, they are only rude if you speak in english only
